A ORLOV
As used at dragstrips. A bit heavy on the kerosene to dry wet shale though They were going to try a machine like this at a GP but Nicki Pedersen would not get out from under the blower.
Shale Searcher
Another load of fixtures cancelled due to rain, Kings Lynn managed to get a meeting on, even after a huge thunderstorm only an hour and a half to two hours pre tapes.... If they can do it, why can't others......? And don't reel out the old "well it's their track and stadium, because they only had a couple of hours to complete the remedial track work needed..... Yes, King's Lynn only had a couple of hours to complete the remedial work. But because it's also their track and stadium, they have much more flexibility in terms of preparing that track to cope with any forecasted downpours in the build-up to any meeting ... in effect, they've a much better chance than most of using plenty of time before it rains to help reduce the amount of time and remedial work needed once that rain's arrived. Running an El team, a NL team and stox meetings mean they have a fulltime set of people, and all the top equipment, to constantly change and prepare the track on a weekly basis. Other teams have less experience, less access and also hire in track curators for their single meeting per week. KL have a top curator in Buster. BuxtonTiger
Another problem now is micro climates which are very much in evidence at a certain track not far from me. It does not matter how sunny the day is, behind locked doors is a waterlogged track!!!!!!!!!
Ghostwalker
Why does it seem that so many meetings are rained-off in the UK? Other European Countries seem to be able to get meetings on even in what appears to be far worse weather conditions than here..... Is it the riders? Is it the promoters? Is it the tracks themselves? Is it the referees? Also, what's happened to the Sky Meetings Covers? It also appears that meetings are called off far to early, I'm sure this is getting far more frequent than it used to be? you have more meetings per week then Sweden, Denmark and Poland. This means that a couple of days with rainy weather will affect allot more meetings compared to the main countries' leagues. You probably have rainier weather as well even though ut can be pretty rainy here as well. Naturally not having to worry about other track events/users makes it easier. As for Västervik last week it had been raining on/off for several days but it hadn't rained anything during the day of the meeting but about 2-3 hours before the start of the meeting itvstarted rain again. It only rained for an hour or so but it was enough to ruin parts of the second bend which had been turned into a ditch. Both teams agreed to cancel the meeting citing despite the people who already had paid entrance fees and despite that was a tv-meeting broadcasted all over Europe. Anyway like it or not dirt deflectors seem they are here to stay, so the riders will have to make the best of it.

Anyway like it or not dirt deflectors seem they are here to stay, so the riders will have to make the best of it. IVAN Mauger (think he knows a thing or two) said publicly on many occasions that the introduction of dirt deflectors was one of the best things to happen to speedway. Not only for riders (not that Ivan was behind too often!) but spectators as well. Don't have to be a Michelin chef to know a good meal when you taste it. CONSIDERING that my 'mates' as you call them have reached the very top of the speedway ladder I make no apology in respecting and quoting their opinions.

Lol .why should riders have to make the best of it?.its time for speedway to get its house in order and start with the bikes Hang on, I`d argue the vast majority of this forum have no experience of ever having used a dirt deflector or ever raced a bike come to that, so our opinions aren't worth squat, we only pay hard earned money at the turnstiles of tracks up and down the Country, that's all.

And swap your tickets at the czech gp for seats on the first 5 rows about 3/4 round first bends and you will soon find they do nothing for spectators either, and i make no apology for looking out for the sports intrests instead of creaming whats left of our once great sport. At scunthorpe some fans have clear unberellas on the first bend cause the dirt hurts so much. What does that tell you ? Ask riders whether dirt deflectors are good or bad and a fair percentage will base their answer on cost rather than effectiveness. My own experience outside the track these days is rather limited to GPs where the fitting of dirt-deflectors is properly monitored. Of course, some dirt still comes off the track but no where near what was the case before they became compulsory.
Vince
Being what feels like 100 years old some days I can remember standing on bends pre dirt deflector days and have to say I believe there is a noticeable difference in the amount of shale thrown over the fence. That's not to say that I think dirt deflectors and their spare parts should cost anything like they do. Its an expence that is not needed in speedway
