In this situation, I guess, you are damned if you do and damned if you don't.

The forecast was pretty dire and, had they still ran, you can guarantee it would have poured down and everyone would say "well the forecast said...."

In some resects it's a gamble either way, although if you read Tsunami's post, it sounds like it was a 'no-goer' anyway.

earlier,,, post 9, was mentioned also,,,

What nonsense, I want a refund from the newcastle promotion.

Yeah right, there is no way you would have been to Newcastle today KKS. Devon was hard enough to find when you visited Somerset recently... ;)

Wasted trip to Brough. Never even crossed my mind that this would be off. Been a fine day other than a heavy ish shower for 20 minutes this afternoon. Certainly seen meetings take place when the weather during the day has been a hell of a lot worse.

Never mind.

Given the amount of rain that fell in the couple of previous days(my garden was flooded twice), and then the forecast for Saturday night and all of Sunday, that was a hell of a risk to take.

I called the training session off mid afternoon on the Saturday during another deluge, as I could see that the track would be completely flooded and I didn't need to look at the doggy TV channel to see the actual track later on Saturday. On Sunday the track staff started early in hope they could get it on, and I went up about 12.30pm and they were still sucking water off the track, and no actual work had been done to the track. If the later showers had not come, they had reckoned on working on the track to get it dried out and make it raceable before start time. They were trying to genuinely make the track ready for a meeting, especially given the distance the 'Boro personal and fans had to travel. We had started to put the air fence up, and everyone had to stop and leave the track during the first cloud burst and, after we returned to our work, a very big cloud came across and it rained heavy again, but for a longer period. Now the track was totally soaked, and not just the inside of the bends. It was a no brainer to cancel the meeting, and in doing so lose the money on stadium rent, teams travel costs, etc. If it had been me I would have called it off on the Saturday night, and then posted the pictures of the track on the Sunday. Instead they made the effort at a canny cost to the promotion.

As Abbott has already said, do and be damned, don't and also be damned.

All right to say how fine it was on the Sunday night, but some people must live in very dry secluded places if they didn't see the rain that had fell previously. Arson Fire obviously didn't know about the hail shower in Wallsend on Sunday afternoon, or see the pictures of it on Facebook. Other must not have read the meeting thread on here, which also told people straight after the decision that it was off.

I really don't understand some reactions on here at times.

So does Nathan Greaves actually ride for us or is he only guesting? His twitter suggests guesting but the SpeedwayGB website suggests that he is full time, which one is it?

He must be in our 1 to 7, or our team would be illegal with only 6 riders declared. It doesn't stop him also being Swindon's draft rider.

My guess is it is a holding appointment for later, or sooner, action to our 1 to 7.

Okay, I was just confused when he said on his twitter that he said he was guesting for the Newcastle Diamonds

Not really guesting in the true word but it probably means he knows it is not permanent. I would expect him to be riding in our next fixture.

NOW THE GOOD NEWS

At long last, the main straight stand has got most of it's steps back. All the steps from the 4th bend to past the refs box, have now been opened for use, so if it rains in future meetings, there will be somewhere to go and get cover. Also of course, those who stand at the end of the stand to watch those wonderful sweeps around the outside of the 3rd/4th bend, well normal service has now been resumed for you.

Super Post Dave - and you are 100% correct. If the rain at the Track was anything like the rain we had in Sunderland at approximately the same time - then the 'Rain Off' came as no surprise to me. I was disappointed, but I totally understand the reasons.

Good call by the Promotion - Riders can be hurt on saturated Tracks and we don't want that.

Yippeeeeeee!!!

Great News for those who use the Stand. Also for me as it will become less congested around where I stand. I will possibly not have to keep nipping down the front to see. :t::approve: :approve: :approve:

Dave I was in wallsend,...until 2pm...I live in wallsend.... And certainly no hail storm was around me... I was in the garden in shorts...., I then went to my sisters just off welbeck rd and there was a heavy shower for 20mins.... I'm not saying the track wasn't unfit, my post says the opposite.....

Ask Malla of his version of events and he can assure you that an honest decision was made, after a lot of work had been done and was definitely not 'defo wrong'. Why lose money and do so much work if it was going to be off anyway.

I sometimes think we should move BP nearer to fans house's, as they seem to get all the dry weather. :t::P

Then their neighbours would complain about the noise.

As one of those 'sweep watchers' this is great news.

Well the steps are all yours now. The club shop facelift has also been finished as well.

Mind you the cynic in me thinks this is only ready in the mindful imminent arrival of Sky cameras for the dogs.
