screm
Giving the form he has started the season in, I`d be hoping Rossiter is doing all he can to get Scott Nicholls back into riding for Team GB.
RPNY
Is there no chance Scotty will re consider riding in the SWC again?
iris123
All well and good saying, pick youngsters for the future(and ideally i would go for that),but a Promoter is hosting the meeting and i guess hoping to get a good crowd. If you go with youngsters that are there for the experience how will that affect the crowd? And will the BSPA compensate the promoter for his losses?I say that as someone who has spent out€60 for next weeks Germany v Poland football match and today the squad was announced and i hardly recognise anyone.Basically a 'B' team for 'A' team prices and i don't really care much for the development of German footballers, although that wouldn't be the case for the SWC team
ch958
trivial i know but i wish we would call ourselves Great Britain Team GB was a desperate attempt to be trendy and its really old now I know it won't make us any better!
montie
I cannot understand why GB have no team in the `World Pairs` ? In the first round, GB did have pair at the meeting ---the pair was in the form of a couple of JCB Tractors, grading the track----and defo two of them --faster than anyone from Team GB also i think
The Pedaler
And will the BSPA compensate the promoter for his losses It's a BSI / FIM event, so I don't thing that the BSPA are financially responsible. What the BSPA are at fault for though is their total mismanagement of the sport that has led to this parlous lack of talent in Britain at a world level. For that, they can't compensate anyone highly enough.

It is the BSPA's representative that picks the team,so they are responsible to that extent and if BSI are the promoters maybe they will want compensation if they or King's Lynn think the crowd has suffered because of choosing youngsters Edited May 8, 2014 by iris123
weatherwatcher
As you say we would be far better to take the risk of using young unblooded memebers for the team. It may take a few year to bear any fruit. But we can't keep going with the old guns that have come to the end of doing anything on a world speedway stage. To watch Bomber in the GP's this year it makes you want to crawl under a cushion he is so bad. He should never have been given the chance again this year it just makes British speedway look so sad that that is the best we can give them. So lets forget about them and bring along some youngsters. 18 to 24 year olds that have the makings of doing something.

It should be done away with forthwith. Great Britain would be my preference - but - England would do at a push. TeamGB should be thrown in to the dustbin of history. screm
Whilst it sounds romantic to blood the youngsters, have we really got any that are competitive at that level at the moment ? On a World level no probably not, but we have to start somewhere, if Rossiter chooses to go down that route of course though at the minute the guy hasn't got much choice. MattK
Whilst it sounds romantic to blood the youngsters, have we really got any that are competitive at that level at the moment ? Exactly. First things first, I'd like to see some British youngster prove their ambition by riding regularly on the continent, rather than in the safety and comfort of the Premier League.

mikebv
That costs money and there isn't any to help the young Brits I hear that... however, you do also wonder how so many foreign riders come over here, make the uk their base, put in several years of graft, (often in the PL) and then eventually become world class.. were they really given loads of support from their uk teams or was it their greater drive, determination and self belief that one day they would succeed that delivered the final result?? I would suggest that an aussie for instance has huge motivation to succeed when he comes over half way round the world to work, (often as a raw teenager) with hardly any 'back up' should things go wrong. This motivation/fear of failure must focus him tremendously .. And I dont see the aussie speedway rulers putting their hands too deep in their pockets to help these aussie 'kids'.. I do get the impression sometimes that to some brits the van with the name on the side, a PL place 'for life' (with a bit of doubling up money here and there), is more important to them than taking the same risky career decisions that their foreign counterparts undertake... Staying in your comfort zone without taking risks, simply means you never progress... Maybe that is also a major factor why we dont produce 'world class riders' on a regular basis? In case you don't know, "Team GB" is actually the trademarked brand name for the British Olympic team. As the SWC team is obviously not part of the Olympic team, they really shouldn't be using the name...Maybe we could start a legal challenge on behalf of the British Olympics Association in order to get rid of that awful name from our sport
Jonny the spud
I can only speak from a personal point of view. We have the van ( without the name in the side ) and take up as many foreign rides as possible. All these rides cost money to do and they're valuable experience, but when you rock up and see the equipment / backing that some if the foreign boys have it's heartbreaking. We do what we can with what we've got but you automatically are on the back foot from the off. I always say to people instead of criticizing, go up and offer a tenner to a rider. That's a third of a way to a tyre and every little helps. There's no major effort to attract a major big name sponsor to British speedway and until that happens we'll always he one step behind foreign riders.
