Should forum users be permitted to use derogatory language towards other forum users?

I see no need to call a fellow forum user an idiot or any other derogatory term. People may have different views but they should not be abusive.

The bottom line is that we are all speedway supporters. It is not 'manly' to be abusive, however mildly, to a fellow forum user. I feel that the forum would be a better place if all forms of abuse were removed.

It's not necessary to be abusive. If you have a decent argument it does not need to be backed up by abuse.

The rule of the internet is attack the post, not the poster. Not always easy though, the BSF is a relatively small forum and we all get to know each other (our internet personas at least) quite well so will fall out and call each other names form time to time.

I'd like to think I can call stevebrum (for eg) a wally these days and he can do the same back and neither of us is going to cry or get upset!

I'm becoming increasingly fed up with the posts that attack the poster and add nothing else to discussions. It seems that thee people who insult others are also the first to complain if someone reacts. Rather than suspend the reported post perhaps moderators could look at the root cause. It's rather like a child telling his mother that someone called him an idiot - omitting the fact that said child called the 'offender much worse in the first place...

I agree but with members like Gavin and Stevebrum, there has to be an exception made.

Which totally negates all that I have said!!!

Why should certain posters be allowed to abuse other forum users? {(Gavan and Stevebrum are less abusive than the forum users that abuse them. They react occasionally, after much provocation).

This is not a Poole thread. This is a discussion about abuse that may occur throughout the whole forum...

Abuse is never a good thing However - being Human - we ALL lose our tempers from time to time and Post things we later regret. I myself have had occasion to apologise on this Forum on a number of occasions. It would be a shame if someone got in to trouble for stating something for which he/she might later apologise for. If someone picks up a Ban - the chance to apologise is gone.

Just my thoughts.

No religion required... Just respect for fellow users.

I think all sorts of things about fellow users - BUT - I re-read before I press 'post'. Sometimes I reword, sometimes I cancel a post. It's not difficult to take a few seconds longer to post a reply... or not.

It's not 'manly' to offend others and call them names. It's cowardly to name-call behind a keyboard, invariably you would not converse in that manner face to face.

It's not 'soft' to type a well though out answer without swearwords, it's deserving of respect.

As has already been said there is rules governing this forum, stick to them and there should be no problems. Calling someone an idiot can have many interpretations, not always abusive, I`ve seen people be called far worse, even to the extent of having posts removed and warnings handed out. IMO we should remember its only a forum, its great for us to air our views, and argue our points but shouldn't be taken as serious as some do.

A very difficult subject this one. There are posters that are very good a drawing people in without being abusive but knowing full well that the replies will be. To me, these posters need an element of control too. But, to be fair I would say most of the language is used as banner between posters (Which I think it's what SCB was referring to when he mentioned Stevebrum) and I'm absolutely fine with that.

I would say on the whole that this forum is one of the friendliest around, especially as a sport forum and most mods do a very good job at monitoring. Certainly don't need poster being banned for minor infringements

I reckon that that the language used on here is mostly within the boundaries...it is mostly inoffensive and I would suggest taken in the right manner most times (though not always)..

There is and should be banter between supporters of various clubs and about the issues of the day too, and tbf there generally is..

We all know a certain Poolie likes to wind people up, but at the same time seems to be unable to 'take' as good as he 'gives', but that is just one individual..

I had a 2 day ban once for calling the forum's multi-named eejit a d***head, personally I thought I should have got a rather large round of applause instead..
