Berwick V Sheffield Koc 2nd Leg 5/05/2014 @7pm

i don't get this, apparently sheffield have got written confirmation from the BSPA that they CAN use r/r for proctor( a rider who has yet to ride for them) and yet (due to a berwick protest) suddenly can use it for a rider who will never ride for them again !!!!

Read the rule book, clearly states you can't use r/r for a rider who has not ridden for the club.Thursdays cancellation probably makes this rule valid.Like you sat only in Speedway. Edited by Fromafar

obviously the people who write the rule book did not read it or sheffield wouldn't have WRITTEN confirmation that they could use r/r for proctor .... they then reverse their decision - but don't tell sheffield till just before the start (as i understand things) !!!!!!!!

madness !!!!!! utter lunacy

Berwick`s to lose now IMO, I feel a tad sorry for Liam Carr being pulled out of one of his rides last night. He has struggled somewhat recently but had paid six from two rides, you`d think he deserved his full allocation of rides, now I understand we have to get Jensen out as many times as possible, especially as he has hit some kind of form recently but IMO it would've done Carr`s confidence the power of good getting a fourth ride.

Sheffields match report has Proctor r/r, the plot thickens, have Berwick done a PR yet about the match.

Thursday's original first leg was a victim of the weather in South Yorkshire meaning Berwick's brief for last night's first leg was simply to score as many 5-1s and take as big a lead as possible to the Tiger's second leg which will now be Thursday coming.

Simon Stead was late to the gate and not first away but coming out of bend two he soared round Berwick Number One Kevin Doolan to take a good second, split the Bandits with a home 4-2 going into the record.

Steen Jensen ended up on his second bike before Heat Two got under way as his first failed but he was last out of the gate, battling well with Josh Bates to pass him on the second lap with Liam Carr well out in front to take a massive win in another 4-2 to double Berwick's lead.

Kus was in blistering form again in Heat Three which he won with consummate ease as Matthew Wethers battle all race with Taylor Poole, having passed Andre Compton, only just missing out on second as yet another 4-2 was recorded with the score now 12-6.

Bates had been overhauled by Claus Vissing off bend two in Heat Four, but going in to bend three the young Tiger's steel shoe came adrift and caused him to fall, and subsequently excluded from the three-man re-run in which Vissing barged the tapes and to initiate a second re-run with him off a 15 metre handicap.

At the third time of asking Jensen jetted away to lead as Vissing embarked on a four-lap charge and just passed Leigh Lanham on the run to the chequered flag to take a home maximum 5-1 which extended the Berwick lead to a fine 17-7.

Stead took a fine win in the fifth with Sheffield finally taking an advantage 2-4 before Doolan made a fine gate in the sixth and held the lead to the end as Jensen passed Simon Nielsen off bend two and gave Lanham some hard moves to think about but the 4-2 was Berwick with better tome come.

Carr made a magnificent move at speed round the outside of Compton and Poole to take second, a position he held beautifully to the end of the race, won out in front by Vissing in a Berwick 5-1 taking the score to 28-14.

Jensen passed Lanham off bend two in the eighth with Wethers passing and having to re-pass again Lanham on the fourth bend of lap three for Berwick to land another 5-1 to go a very healthy 18 points ahead.

Following another 5-1 Doolan's primary chain flew off as he let the clutch out but Jensen was away again well ahead of Compton and Poole to share the race 3-3 and more the score on to 41-19.

Stead took Heat 11 with out much trouble in a visitor's 2-4, and, mounted on the same Stead bike, Compton came out an destroyed the heat to take a big win followed well by Nielsen in an unexpected Sheffield 1-5 over Kus and Jensen to tighten up the score to 44-28.

Stead's bike - this time with Stead on it again - took another three points, and with Lanham passing Doolan on the opening lap the 2-4 reduced the gap to only 14 points with three races to go and a whole second leg to race on Thursday night.

The fast staring Jensen and Wethers roared to the front again in Heat 14, with Jensen taking the widest line round bends three and four ever dared, another 5-1 extended the vitally important differential between the sides to 18 points with one race left, which after a final heat share left that the final difference to take to South Yorkshire on Thursday.

The Bandits co-team manager Ian Rae was reasonably satisfied, saying: “Mid way through it looked as though we would easily hit a good 60 points plus score which would have made the trip to Sheffield on Thursday pretty comfortable, but they are an experienced side and it shone through in the latter half as them stemmed the tide and scored a few good wins of their own.

“18 points is a good margin to take to Owlerton but it means we have a far harder match ahead than it might have been – and the chance of a ¼ Final against Edinburgh could be the dangling carrot our lads need to come up with the goods.”

Individual Riders' Score Chart:

Berwick “New Holland Bandits” 54

1. Kevin Doolan 1,3,R,0 = 4

2. David Bellego – Rider replacement

3. Matej Kus 3,3,0,3,1 = 10

4. Matthew Wethers © 1,2,2*,2,*,2*,1* = 10+4

5. Claus Vissing 2*,3,2,2,2 = 11

6. Liam Carr ® 3,2*,0,n = 5+1

7. Steen Jensen ® 1,3,1,3,3,0,3 = 14

Sheffield“Window Centre Tigers” 36

1. Simon Stead © 2,3,3,3,3 = 14

2. Adam Roynon – Rider replacement

3. Andre Compton 0,0,0,2,3 = 5

4. Taylor Poole 2,1,1,1*,0 = 5+1

5. Leigh Lanham 1,2,1,1,1,0 = 6

6. Simon Nielsen ® 2,0,0,1,2*,1 = 6+1

7. Josh Bates ® 0,Fx,0,N = 0

Taken from the Berwick site, as you can see it has R/R for Roynon, as I`ve posted elsewhere it might be an idea if we could get a bit of clarity. I know the Berwick management were not amused about the situation, whether this lead to any kind of protest I wouldn't know.

The home team has to declare its side at least 5 days before the meeting and the away side respond with their declaration at least 3 days.

Therefore when Sheff declared their original side it wouldve been before the call off on Thursday where Proctor was expected to debut.

The written confirmation originally given wouldve assumed this.

Once the debut didnt happen its is down to the opposition to protest which Berwick did and permission for a facility fir Proctor was withdrawn.

Whether a facility for Roynon shouldve been allowed is a different matter and is likely to be diwn to whether the redeclaration was deemed to have taken place given the Thursday cancellation.

Whatever the right answer is once the line ups have been ratified the decision is final - you can no longer ride under protest re a team line up - it has to be resolved before the meeting. (regulation change this year)

Screm in Liams 2nd ride he lost his steel shoe after a bit of a coming together with Taylor Poole just a racing incident ,but Liam did exceptionally well to leg trail for 3 laps, i noticed when he got off his bike at the pits gate he seemed uncomfortable and limping so possibly that is why he missed his last ride not sure but could be..

Fair play to Liam had a great couple of rides, but the Team manager done the correct thing by replacing him in his last ride IMO.It is the KO Cup and every point counts and Jensen was having a great meeting and the managers change paid off.I admit I would have criticised him had he not made the change.

Thanks for that, I wasn't there last night so was unaware of that.

But fear not my friends, like Moses from the mount I should make my return next Saturday evening. :D

Decent enough meeting, Jensen very good again, shame Kus got in his way the heat they got 5-1'd, I think Jensen would have passed them. Doolan looking pretty uninspiring, hopefully he will pick up. Alot better from Carr, Weathers as dependable as ever and Kus the usual enigma, brilliant when he gates, cant pass for toffee when he doesnt. Expect Berwick to go through on Thursday, think this is a pretty poor Sheffield side with the exception of Stead who really is a class above, always been one of the best visitors to Berwick over the years and he certainly didnt disappoint.

Great to see David Bellego qualify for the World U21 GP, would guest facilities be allowed in when he is racing away?

Wasn't allowed last night, Bellego being in the Qualifying Rounds, so I don't think it will be allowed for the Finals.

R/R was for Roynan. Why it was allowed who knows

Who knows indeed, I`m sure someone from BSPA, MC or Sheffield Speedway must read this, so is it asking to much for a bit of clarity.

Definitely the correct decision, and like you say Jim, no reflection on Liam, he rode very well for his paid 6 and the support he is getting behind the scenes looks to be paying off.

He really enjoyed his rides and clearly got a buzz out of it. He's just going to get better and better.

As last there season are three Finals again this season, first of which is on July 19th, Berwick are due to be racing at home to Edinburgh that night. Second is on August 17th, that's a Sunday and Berwick have no fixture, however if practice is compulsory, meaning you have to attend even if you don't take to the track then Bellego will miss the home meeting with Somerset. Third is on October 4th, Berwick have no home fixture that night.
