Popular Post Daniel Smith
Call me soft or whatever I believe it's a very brave thing for Bridger to admit on social media that he's suffering from depression. Those that have suffered before will know how serious this can be and shouldn't be seen as a laughing matter. Fingers firmly crossed for the lad
ColinMills
absolutely right screamer. i only seen this through this thread, so totally unaware of circumstances. if the depression is family connected, then tough on the lad, and best wishes..if (and im guessing) its regarding speedway recent results, id understand that as well, as scores not happening for him.. LagutaRacingFan
Good to see Lewis open up, that's 99% of the battle won.
SCB
Good to see Lewis open up, that's 99% of the battle won. If only. As someone who's been there, it's really not that simple. It's finding a cause, if there is a cause - I would imagine in speedway it's very easy to get depressed when you're not scoring points. What Lewis needs now is for people to leave him to sort himself out, know that the fans are on his side but not to smother him. I remember when I was at my lowest I just felt like everyone wanted to help and I just wanted to be left alone and in my own time I went to them. But then I'm just one person, depression makes different people behave in different ways. Edited April 29, 2014 by SCB
Mark
Good luck to Lewis, a horrible illness, hope he gets better soon.
foamfence
While echoing the above sentiments, his club need better than he's doing, who would you bring in?
Wessex Wanderer
Really sorry to hear about this but it is good that Lewis has taken the important first step in acknowledging his condition. At Weymouth we knew Lewis as a thoroughly likeable 15 year old with a very bright future so it is hard now to hear of this. Get well soon Lewis. arthur cross
If only. As someone who's been there, it's really not that simple. I remember when I was at my lowest I just felt like everyone wanted to help and I just wanted to be left alone and in my own time I went to them. But then I'm just one person, depression makes different people behave in different ways. You're right about everyone wanting to help in a situation like this when you just want to be left alone but the key thing is to split all those potential helpers into two categories ... Firstly, work out which of those helpers are prepared to listen to your frustrations (and make the effort to understand them even if they don't always agree with them) so that they can target their help far more accurately to suit your particular circumstances ... they're the ones worth keeping in touch with even when you don't particularly want to do so. From that group, you'll usually find one or two who can even help you in due course with constructive criticism because you've already trusted their constructive help. The rest of the potential helpers, while clearly being well-meaning, are usually wasting their own time as well as yours because they make the wretched mistake of reckoning they know the depressed person better than he/she knows him/herself ... they impose what they think is the right help rather than listening and adapting to the specific case. That can only add to the depressed person's despair ... worse still, the further unhappiness caused by such misplaced assistance can switch the depressed person off remaining willing to receive the useful targeted advice from the worthwhile helpers.

Trees
I suffered from post natal depression for 2-3 years, it was the medication that sorted me out in the end, took all that time though!
baba
Id imagine hes on fluxotine they will work or maybe hes going down therapist route, whatever good luck to him, being open about it helps, losing rico is when all his problems could have snowballed into ocd and depression. I understand whats going on currently trying to deal with same problems nothing to do with the results weve been having b.t.w before anyone says so......mmmm mr blobby lol. In a sense being diagnosed has made me feel better ....it gets deep and dark and I was begining to question if id be better of dead the brain can over stimulate negative thoughts in a mania and rewire itself its a scary thing the brain. Red Panda
Having suffered from bouts of depression for a number of years I can understand where he is coming from............fortunately for the last two years for the most part I have been in a good place............ Wishing Lewis all the best as he comes to terms with it and hope he is able to lead a better life soon............. RP
Weeyin
Wishing Lewis all the best... difficult thing to admit to mental health problems. Depression can hit anyone and sometimes for no apparent reason, hope he is getting proper help, medication can be good but it can take a while to get the right one as what is good for one person might not work for another... Good luck Lewis in your recovery journey

westhamboy66
Takes a lot of courage to realise and then admit that you have a problem, thats the first step of many needed to get well. Best wishes for the battle ahead

Mimmo
I've been there and tried to hide it for a couple of years which ended in me having a mental breakdown. You've taken the massive step of being open about your problem, so ten out of ten for that. Hang in there mate, you'll come through it. Good luck to you and your family who will be suffering with you. Mike Moseley
fliss44
Whether it is clinical or reactive depression I hope he finds his way out of it. He is not alone in his suffering but he probably won't appreciate that at the moment. Good luck Lewis and it's good that you have gone public about a subject that even today remains taboo. You may well have helped the next person suffering from similar symptoms .x

E I Addio
Just a thought. Lewis, Tai, Bomber, Ed Kennett, and Ben Barker all performing well below their best at the moment. Maybe it is purely coincidence, maybe they are all loosely connected by some common thread that is directly or indirectly connected to the pressures of modern speedway, the travelling, the constant need to perform, the special diets and everything that goes with it. Maybe there is a connection or maybe there isn't , none of us on the outside know the answer, but this is the time fro the fans to back off a bit and give our guys some breathing space and not be to quick to be judgmental about any of them. The thread about Bomber was in particularly bad taste with people who don't even know the guy making all kinds of judgments about what the future holds for him. Time for the fans to give them all a bit support. The bottom line is we want to see them all at their best so let's get behind them. http://www.lakesidehammers.co/content/
