lucifer sam
BUSY WEEK FOR SCORPIONSFLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions entertain old rivals Plymouth Devils at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (3pm), in a busy week that sees the club involved in three Premier League meetings in four days. The Scorpions compete in two away meetings, at Ipswich tonight (Thursday) and Rye House on Saturday. The clash between the Scorpions and Devils at Scunthorpe on Sunday is followed by a National League fixture between the Scunthorpe Stags and the King’s Lynn Young Stars. The Scorpions are actually top of the Premier League table at the moment – having defeated reigning champions Somerset 46-44 in the only PL fixture so far this year! With another three PL fixtures in the next few days, the Scorpions have the chance to steal a march on their rivals.Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’ve got a good chance of taking some good points from this week’s meetings.“I’m not going to set a points target, because it’s been very unpredictable so far this season. In the League Cup, nearly everyone dropped points at home at one point or another.“The Premier League promises to be a wide-open, competitive league in 2014, which is good for every team in the league.“We’ve gone for a horses-for-courses policy regarding the guests for the injured Anders Mellgren this week.“Leigh Lanham used to ride for Ipswich, so we’ve book him for the meeting there, and likewise with Pontus Aspgren on Rye House on Saturday.”At the moment, it seems likely that the Scorpions will utilise rider replacement for the visit of the Plymouth Devils on Sunday. R/R scored paid 10 against Newcastle at the EWR on Good Friday.Any Scunthorpe vs Plymouth clash always has plenty of spice. The two clubs battled for the silverware at Conference Level in both 2006 and 2007, with a Scorpions team led by Tai Woffinden - now the World Champion - and Josh Auty nearly always coming out on top.Sunday’s fixture sees the return of Plymouth’s Kalle Katajisto to the Eddie Wright Raceway, who suffered neck injuries at the track last season.Ben Barker is the No 1 for the Devils. Last year, the breathtaking duels between him and Josh Auty, when Barker was riding for Ipswich, had to been seen to be believed.Sunday’s adult admission price for the double-header is £17. It’s just £2 more than a single Premier League meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway, for 15 extra heats of action. The circuit rightfully has won the award, several times, for being the best racetrack in the Premier League, so a full and exciting day of racing is ahead.Admission prices for Sunday:Adult: £17.00Student/OAP: £15.00Child (10 – 17): £5.00Child (0 – 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult)Family Ticket £39 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-17)Match Programme: £1.00Expected teams for Sunday (English unless stated):FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Mimmo
I'm very much looking forward to these two matches Rob, and just hope that we enjoy some good weather. I know the racing will be good, as it nearly always is at the Eddie Wright Raceway. My biggest wish is that the PA system will be finally audible, and that you can hear what the guy behind the mic is saying. Understanding Ron from the middle is no problem, but it's the guy in the box (god only knows what he does with that mic when he's speaking into it). As a matter of interest, have the 'Stags' re-declared their side, or are Sam Chapman and Adam Kirby riding as guests?

Presumably, on the BSPA site Verge and Govier are declared in the side now, so I'm not sure how Govier can ride as a number 8. I would've thought Chapman or Kirby would have to be the number 8 with the other a 'guest'.

Ommer Mon
Blimey! 19-71 and that included an engine failure for Marc Owen. Congratulations to KL for taking it seriously for 15 races.
scribbler
Does anybody know how many years of experience of Speedway riding the K L's NL team have. I've seen some of those names in the CL/NL for years...

TMW
I'll say it aa no one else has Well done to Josh Bailey. Clearly the best 3 pointer on show. Isn't it all about quality rather than quantity? Serious question. Can you really develop 6 riders in 1 go?

I learnt something today : NL tracks pay their own costs. As such, Scunthorpe will give King's Lynn nothing towards their rider expenses today, so the Stars (who I think its fair to say aren't a win at all cost team) must be looking at about £1,000. Sadly that wont be Scunny's problem. KL have drawn the short straw meeting them in the KOC and league. 4 meetings to fork out for..... not good

I've seen some of those names in the CL/NL for years... I'll answer my own question. It must be about 40 years worth of experience in the KL side. I think I remember Mallett, Campos, Hughes and Cockle from as far back as 2005. Only one new comer in the KL side. OK - Stags have too many newcomers but KL have too many riders with no ability/opportunity/ambition to get any further (IMHO).

Allitt Racing
Lol what about Rose one year in NL. Bailey no seasons. Marc Owen limited with injury. The kings Lynn boys all younger than the stags number 1. In fact the oldest is 27. If that is to old then we are in trouble. As for ambition. Both Darren and Kyle are on the elite list so clearly they have it. James will be when he gets fully fit. So when you know all that maybe you will feel differently ? TMW
Stags have made the National League a joke full stop. On a serious note I think that is the intention. No need to flaunt rules but taking every opportunity to do it.

Good old statistics we can use them for anything!!! (not arguing against as i agree with Rose, Owen and Bailey as newcomers still) Only one statistic i would use and is the main difference between the teams which affected the score. "number of league meetings per team" KL will be in several hundred if not more where as scunny will be probably only just over 100 with steve jones making up most of them And thats what told in the one area the stags are losing out on at the moment. "Gating" in particular on a track that having already had one meeting on becomes alot more FTG than a PL meeting Observing the starts every time the KL riders were sharper away (sometimes too sharp but get away with it as all teams seem to in NL meetings this season) even the less experiences riders in the KL team (except bailey who is just a very good young rider) have had a lot more expereince from the gate Once we see the stags start to get upto the speed of other riders out the traps then the scores will start coming as all have shown they are there with track speed. As to what work is being done to help them gate i dont know but is very hard to be done during a meeting, sometime i wonder if it is just down to setups or more importantly "newer Tyres!" markyb
When Scunthorpe raced against coventry storm the other week I was so full of praise for the efforts put in by.the Scunthorpe riders - even though they got trounced and posted as such on the forum. Seeing today's score, unfortunately feel that they could be killing National League speedway. Now have to think twice about the level of speedway on offer when two national league teams meet ! At coventry they only charge 10 quid to get in and free for my 8 year old Daughter which is fantastic value for money (sometimes !) But the major factor is giving up 2 to 3 hours of my "social" time. Normally it is well worth it - but how the hell can I judge. Sorry Scunthorpe riders/management/fans (if any exist apart from family members and girl friends) - pull the plug now ! Await the normal rubbishe responses !!! Stags have made the National League a joke full stop. Too right they are and will kill the league if they continue !!!
