Peterborough V Newcastle - Tuesday 29th April

Recommended Posts

Cracking meeting tonight, can you send the trackman to Brandon!?

At least you didn't say Send him to Coventry

Great meeting well done to both Teams,Peterborough is a fantastic race track IMO.

Is Peterborough still an FIM rated track. If so, why hasn't more meetings like the World Cup been at the Showground. If not, why has the rating slipped. It is one of the best racetracks in world speedway. Can someone from Peterborough answer. What about it Neil.

Certainly one of the best Tracks I have been to. The only one I can presently think of to beat it was Belle Vue, Hyde Road.

Even then it is close.

Bad luck? Your own rider wipes out his team mates when you're being 5-1d and you only get 4-2d in the re-run. As for Kerrs bike(s) - 1 EF is back luck, 2 is poor, 3 is terrible and 4 is frankly terrible, not luck but from the rider. Kerr let down Newcastle tonight, not luck.

Hope Rosen is ok after his crash, amazed he got up tbh.

To anyone who looks at the final score. The result really did not reflect the meeting!

Brilliant racing, brilliant track.

I thought the terrible crash would end it, but Rosen got up and walked away  Hope he's ok!

A great advert, yet again, for PL Speedway. I don't know why we don't see more of it?

One negative for me, the Newcastle race suits ...AWFUL!

Well done to the Panthers :t:

Question? the race suit pattern/style is a subject of taste and to me they look really good- Almost like having seven Ken Le Bretons back for the Diamonds. I do trust however you are not one of those 'harking back to the good old days' fossils who wants to see individual suits return.

Now, don't you be ridiculing any of the posters on here...but you are right.

Newcastle were never in the meeting after the first few heats.

Still, it goes to show that the racing is what matters, all denominations on this thread to acclaim the quality of the track and riders (on the whole), quite rightly so.

It got better as the meeting went on, but I did think we were going to get hit big time again. Fortunately we were making gates tonight, and there was some classic racing on the Showground track.

Points on the meeting :-

Ludde did beat Fisher to the line. From the outside it was clear, but if you look at the dubbed on redline, it is skewed and not parallel to the the chalk line on the track. Get it fixed SKY.

Schramm is distraught at the crash he caused.

Anton is very battered and bruised, but nothing broken. He has been passed fit to travel and has flown back to Sweden tonight as per his original plans.

Kerr is very upset as he was using his best bikes, so they need to be stripped tomorrow to find out what has caused the stoppages in three heats where he was contesting the lead. His no points score could well have cost us the meeting points, along with Anton's absence. My guess is Kerr problems must be electrical.

Agree with the comment that Christian should have been on a TR in heat 8.

Agree with Jacques regarding the race suits. Far too much white that makes them look baggy, and should have a lot more black in them.

Very pleased at the positive comments on here about what opposition we put up tonight, certainly augers well for the future and when Kerr sorts out his probs I don't thing we need to be considering replacements of any of the septet. Sorry 'DIAMONDS' but you have run your course with your team alternatives, I think so you should lay off now. It was fun, but is unsettling to some OK.

No they won't. They'll see an empty stadium and think that's definitely not the place to be.

Suggest you look at attendances at other sports on TV. Most football matches from the lower league Stadiums are 75% empty. Cricket counry matches are nearly alway empty. Watching live tennis on mornings on TV there would perhaps be 100 people watching. Thats probable the top three sports most people are interested in this country.

Unless I was hearing things too, then yes, he said it's on Sky TV.. :t:

Hope you are right, I also thought he said that cos I remember wondering which shift I was on. Always hoped that losing the GPs to Eurosport might make Sky look for an alternative way to spend the money while still keeping it in the sport.

Fantastic racing and great effort from the lads. Poor decision from team manager to use Rosen on black and white in heat 7 when he had already been 5 1'd and it was his first time on the track. It was so obvious it had to be henry in heat 8!

I think George was reckoning on needing both tacticals and was trying to ensure he could fit them in prior to the cut-off point-just a thought?

Comfortable win, Serious stuff begins again next week.

We need a point from Plymouth or Rye House to get into the Cup Final semi's.

Watching Blackbird and the reserves tonight, how were they so poor over the weekend?

The old adage about up against you rings true. The Newky black cat reared its head once more.

I'm sorry - I think they look very anemic. I thought the Peterborough Racejackets were great though. :t::approve: :approve:

Come on Newcastle - get back to your famous and traditional Black Racejacket with big 'White' Diamond - THAT is how Speedway Supporters remember Newcastle. It was far more impressive than the somewhat pathetic effort we wear at present.

Do feel for Kerr, as it could've been anything. My initial thought was a flooding carb, or electrical issue.

Even so, once it has happened twice & you can't find the issue, even if the 2nd bike is not ideally set up for the track, you need to switch bikes.

Only caught the last half a dozen heats, but looked like another fine advert for PL speedway.

Well done to everyone concerned.

Are you suggesting that my teams are causing problems with the riders in real life?

Proper racing on a proper race track....throttle control my arse!!!!...brilliant racing tonight by both teams

Lewis Rose is going to be very very good very soon!

Hopefully he can do a 2013 Kerr impersonation because at the moment we really need it.

Don't personally agree with every decision George makes, but no one had scored points off gate 4 prior to ht 8, so why risk the black and white in that one.

Lewis is now hopefully sorted, Anton had a headache when he set off to stansted for his early morning flight and his bike is a mess, but Ludde, George and George will sort it for Sunday when he flys back in.

schrammy is doing the airport drop tonight for Anton , he is gutted about the crash.

Looking forward to watching on tv tomorrow night.

Oh, and some team is going to get hammered shortly when these seven diamonds click.

Great meeting - one of the best I've seen at The Showground.

Luddie deserved far more for his efforts.

Newcastle badly let down by Kerr who was an absolute disgrace - surely he must have had more than one bike there yet he continued to persevere with the one that was suffering problems.

While I understand your comments WK , the sight of seven 'GHOSTS' must surely stir some passion. I was brought up on the exploits of only two riders who stay in my mind. Firstly, the great god Mauger , but barely secondly-had he survived who knows- Le Breton. The Sapphire is here to stay with our present ownership and has to be better than being named after some dodgy euro car dealership. Heart on sleeve, as a recently re-introduced fan, the blue diamond is way better, and while it may alienate some long standing fans, it wont make them quit. If the currant image intros new fans who stay, then I for one am all for it.

Having watched the match last night as a nutral It was a great advert for speedway and the PL showing what many of us have know for years the Elite league doesn't have the best racing espically on a GP week when you see more passing as the riders go back to the pits after one race than the whole of the match sometimes, and when riders who rode in the EL last season are saying that riding in the PL is harder only helps prove the point.
