Wolves V Belle Vue 22/4/14

Recommended Posts

It's changed to Heat 11 now.

With regards to Woffinden, it was reported from the pre-season talk in that he is using the 'same equipment' as last year.

IF that is true, I can see why he is struggling. I've never known a top rider use the same engines the following year? Certainly rare.

Very rare indeed. Thought it was harsh of Ms Webster to tell Woffy that his manager thinks his equipment wasn't up to scratch  She's a little grass isn't she

Have to agree regarding Cook a PL superstar will be his limit,Gets Outgated in EL and cant pass decent riders.

I think he can get better but not while he is earning easy money in the PL and not testing himself abroad. Needs to be racing against top riders three or for times a week.

Cracking meeting. Really enjoyed it and some of the best racing was between the NL guys which shows the new format can work. I had serious doubts but fair play it seems to be working very well so far.

Cook and Worrall had off nights but give them a chance. The new format means Cook has tougher races but if he is good enough he'll adapt and it will make him a better rider.

That's right, let's put the lad down after a handful of meetings. Can't understand why Belle Vue persevere with him....

You don't rate Woffinden then?

Cook is having a difficult time but as NJC71 said, give him a chance. It's early days yet and races are tougher for heatleaders this year.

A good result for the Aces and still likely improvement in the side. Palm-Toft and Nielsen doing better than many expected.

No reason for despondency for Wolves supporters. Tai will do better and Wells and Thorsell are good at home.

Depends what is meant by the "same engines" . I am sure that Peter Johns said in Speedway Star a while back that Chris Holder had been using one of his engines for about 3 or 4 years, which may be technically true of the cylinder head and barrel but I have no doubt Peter Johns had breathed on it a bit in the meantime.

I don't think using a previous years engines is a problem in itself , its more of a problem when riders /tuners try to squeeze a bit more out of them and it doesn't always pay off.The trouble with modern engines is that they are so sensitive that even a slight bit of tweaking in the wrong direction can mess them up. That apparently was Peter Karlssons problem when he only scored 2 points in Lakesides first meeting of the season, he had something done to an engine in the winter that totally messed the power characteristics up. Sometimes the smallest adjustment can make a big difference, sometimes better sometimes worse, the problem is finding it.

It was noticeable that at the New Zealand GP the riders on Peter Johns engines weren't generally going as well as one might expect, while NP who seemed to be struggling for speed last year seemed to be flying.

To Answer your questions its Heat 11 (Between Heats 5 and 11 but not Heat 9) in EL and Heat 12 in PL and NL.

From Belle Vue perspective:

Great comeback to get a draw after it was looking dodgy after a few heats. We were unfortunate in couple of heats when Wolves had fallers and made up for it in reruns.

Nicholls and Zagar were solid both made couple of mistakes but great late on.

Worrall did his job, unfortunate in heat 14 which was stopped while he was leading.

Palm Toft did a lot better then expected, two great wins and carried on his battling qualities he has shown in meetings so far.

Nielsen did really well, he has terrible style and quite often looks like he is going to fall but scores the points.

Reade was rubbish but didn't expect any more, he is struggling at reserve in premier league and well out of his depth in elite league.

Then we get to Cook, some people may not like this but I think this new race format with the tougher rides for heatleaders is really showing that he is barely a heatleader really, those that said we would have won at Eastbourne with him I disagreed with at time. Premier League is holding him back, at this rate he not going to be any better then a top Premier League rider-decent second string/third heatleader in Elite League.

Where's Steve Brum

Why?? FYI have been busy with my Cycle Speedway commitments.

Pay attention, Mr Shoveller, it was a draw, so the Aces took TWO points

Shov never gets the facts right, that why he gets so much ridicule.

Having now managed to watch the SKY recording we just seemed to be over trying a little too much.

Ty looked much better until his nasty crash. hope he is ok.

Jacob and Ricky excelled again whilst Ash did his job and more.

Hate to say it but its Tai that is letting us down big time right now. We need him in double figures (10 at the least) every meeting to be doing his job.

He looked woeful in heat 10, no real explanation as to why he got passed so easily.

Piotr, in fairness, is going to have meetings like this. We have been spoiled so far by his seamless introduction to heat leader status and learning a new track.

Perhaps both Aces meetings have brought into play his inexperience in this position.

Take nothing away from the Aces, they deserved the draw and 2 points. I said the Aces looked a solid top 4 with question marks over the rest and got laughed at for daring to say the Aces might have a good season.

MPT took his 2 wins well and Nielsen certainly showed his history with Morris on the track that provided some cracking battles between them. Of course the Draft riders are make weights and have no place in the EL. They certainly added to the entertainment value as has been the case in all the meetings i have seen this season.

Scottie is always a danger at the Green and Zagar was allowed too much fresh air and had one of better meetings at Wolves.

Cook, like Woffy, was worse. Worrall solid without really breaking a sweat.

Well done the Aces, a good bank holiday for them.

Despondency for us Wolves fans tho. It will only get worse us on Wednesday. Lets have some fight then!

I can't see him leaving Wolverhampton for any British team tbh.

I hope so.

I see the multi poster is still making silly comments, nothing changes.

Woffy became World Champion riding for Wolves. Such a nonsense thing to say anyway.

Still, that's what trolls do.

When I suggested last week that Wolves were beatable, I was cried down. Was even told, I was putting too much pressure on the young riders with my expectations. Last nights match just proved what you can achieve if you go for it.

Thoroughly enjoyed an entertaining meeting where the fortunes favoured one way then the other. I think the draw was the correct result, and proved to one and all that Belle Vue need to be taken seriously this year. Nice to see, Manchester has something to cheer about after all the recent happenings.

Never been a lover of the Monmore track, and thought there were too many falls last night. Pleased to see Proctor up after what looked a painful crash... I have always said riders don't have to be world class to put on exciting racing, and last night the draft riders showed this point conclusively.
