League Cup Semi Finals

Recommended Posts

Group A: Edinburgh (Confirmed)

Group B: Sheffield (Confirmed)

Group C:

Peterborough with 14 points from 6 matches (Plymouth and Rye House away)

Ipswich with 13 points from 6 matches (Rye House and Somerset away)

Somerset with 8 points from 6 matches (Rye House and Ipswich home)

Plymouth Eliminated

Rye House Eliminated

Best Runner Up?

Group A:

Group B: Redcar with 11 points from 6 matches come in at a rate of 1.83

So Edinburgh and Sheffield are both in the Semi-Finals and It's between the rest for the last two spots but the East Anglia clubs on paper look the favorites for Group C but Somerset have two home matches in the bank which could take their total to 14.

Redcar have finished their league cup programme and end up in a runner-up position with their all important points per game rate being at 1.83 but they will be hoping for other results from Group A and C to go their way in order to qualify.

Who's going to reach the Semi-Finals of this enthralling prestigious competition?

I assume that the teams in pool c will drop their score against the bottom team when deciding the best runner up. So not a certainty that it'll be from that pool. Worky or Berwick could still make it with 3 wins and Redcar on 11 still have a chance.

I just hope they get the sf draw done soon and get the fixtures on early in the season. Monarchs have a free week on 9th may and it could get our sf home leg that night.

I think all riders from other teams have booked a holiday for that week and your semi will have to in September.

It's done on Average of points. So the Total number of points divided by the number of matches.

Thanks for that, I've amended the original post.

Tonight's defeat for Somerset has left their hopes hanging by a thread, The maximum they can reach is 14 points with two maximum home wins against Ipswich and Rye House but with the Witches on 13 and the Panthers on 14, It looks like they are firm outsiders.

The Panthers meanwhile have to visit Rye House where they have already been giving a hammering along with a very tough Plymouth side that is rejuvenated with the form of Kyle Newman.

It`s irrelevant I think for the Rebels after last nights disaster, the Witches should be good enough for at least a point at Rye and that will be enough.

The Rebels are a bit shaky at the end of matches at the moment which has cost us twice against P/Boro and also in the home fixture with the Devils. Better outcomes there would have seen us comfortably in the semi`s,

The Rebels need to win the last two home games against Rye and Ippo to kick start the league season.

A draw or better for the Witches coupledwith Berwick failing to win at Worky would see the semi final line ups decided today.

Berwick will need to take the full points for an away win if they stand any kind of chance of getting to the Semi`s, Workington today and then Glasgow when ever it gets re-arranged, unlikely IMO.

So 2nd place in the southern group need to get to 15 points to qualify ahead of 11 points in the other 2 groups. This rules out rye, Plymouth and Somerset. Although with one sequence of results Somerset could still tie Peterborough for top spot on 14.

Peterborough and Ipswich both only have away matches left so getting to the 15 point mark is not a formality.

Add into this if Workington get a 4 point win at Glasgow they tie Redcar on 11 points, I assume it then goes to points difference which would put the comets ahead of the bears. Given today's result that might make worky a favourite.

So it will be a few weeks before this gets clearer. Worky are at Glasgow on may 18th so might not know until then.

Is the semi final a random draw? The team with the best record (edinburgh) could get the 2nd placed team automatically. Can the two teams in the same section get drawn together?

This is going to be a tight finish but Somerset and Ipswich are firm outsiders in my opinion.

14 points won't be enough to qualify as runner up ahead of Redcar in Group B, The Rebels have to win both of their home matches by 7 point margins or more and then hope that the Panthers lose both of theirs but not just lose, they will need the Panthers to be hammered and the Rebels will also need to hammer Ipswich and Rye House in order to overturn the +51 Panthers have and the -7 the Rebels currently have.

So they need a 58 point swing to qualify as 14 points won't be enough to qualify as the runner up, If Ipswich get anything from the Somerset match then the Rebels are out but the Witches have to draw/win at the Oaktree arena as 14 points won't be enough for them as the Panthers have a much superior points difference and It's unlikely that the Witches will be able to overturn a +48 points difference unless the Panthers take two severe beatings at Rye House and Plymouth.

:D I thought that it was a serious post for a moment!

To be fair, you have actually said something genuinely funny there - whether intentional or not :)

It was intentional :icon_smile_clown: (that's not you btw). Our loony friend was posting in the style of the good loser from Stamford Bridge: "

"Congratulations to Mike Dean, because he made a fantastic performance." - "And congratulations to Mike Riley, because what they did during the season was fantastic for the way the championship is going." :D
