Whats The Thoughts On The New Format After The First Month

Recommended Posts

1. Race format seems ok with the exception of the away #4 not getting his first ride until heat #5 and then comes up against the home #'s 1 & 5!

2. Not a follower of the EL so with the exception of what I saw last night on the Live Sky match, I can't comment... However, the action last night was superb especially from Kyle Newman.. If this is what the new rulings do then it's a winner... The format isn't there to make every British rider a World class rider... but if it can develop a select few that in time can compete on the world stage then it's a winner... Poland do it so no reason why we can't

3. Certain riders do look out of place... Lee Smart last night looked all over the place, never mind out of place!

Much prefer to see some young English lads than some average foreigners at reserve. Also good to watch the top 3 of each team face each other so often.

Felt for Max Clegg at the beginning of the season, being the most inexperienced rider, but great to see his improvement, and it's also being reflected in his NL results. Have a great season Max

Enjoyed the reserves racing at Poole on the box last night, but a bit concerned about replacements when meetings clash, especially this friday when so many meetings take place.

Would rather see young brits than foreigners, but give it a few months and see how it goes.

Was very strung out at Lakeside on Friday but looked much better in the Poole/Cov match last night, even in the heats where they faced the #2 and #4 they did themselves justice, looked no different to the racing involving the reserves last season if you ask me. It's a huge learning curve not just for the riders but for the people implementing the system as well, it's a long-term fix not a one season fix, and I suspect it'll get better as time goes on and we'll see more young riders come in and hit the ground running a lot quicker once the process is smoothed out in the coming years. Still all for it.

I think it depend who your reserves are, but personally I like it a lot better than I thought I would. I have seen some decent reserve races plus the added excitement when a reserve beats a second string. Early days yet but in the teams where senior riders are prepared to spend time with the draft riders and the draft riders are prepared to listen to advice, I think we will see quite big improvement over the season.

Considering that the money saved by the draft scheme means we now get more regular meetings and each team meets the others twice instead of the old scheme of meeting some teams twice and others once I think it has been a good move

I don't think I like the new race format as much as the old one but that's not a major issue I I'll probably get used to it.

I like it. There are overall more races involving riders of similar ability and it is just as enjoyable watching the reserve races as the other races.

Plainly, with so many EL clubs losing money costs had to be cut. The BSPA deserve credit for coming up with a solution which helps achieves that but also gives British riders the opportunity to gain experience from riding much more regularly, riding against better riders and which provides the opportunity for them to learn from GP and other to riders. Anyone expecting it to produce a world beaters in 12 months time is living in cloud cuckoo land. It will have been worthwhile if in 3 years time we have a couple of riders with real world class potential and a few more with genuine EL heatleader potential.

Still open, as its too early to tell on some issues.

However, the meetings I have seen involving Wolverhampton, 1 live, 2 on bet365 I have enjoyed as much as any meet last year so there has been no adverse effect.

So leaning towards liking it at the moment.

The first ride for the away number 4 is a real issue that needs adressing after this season has finished. Too late now to alter it.

Reserve race wise its fine. I am certainly all for it and think we will see a few Brits emerging from this group over the next few seasons, with new youngsters replacing them.

All good. I hope they continue with it.

But the PL needs to step up and back the same long term plan. Some of these youngsters could do with a PL reserve team berth.

I cannot see the big problem with the no4, does it really matter if his first race is 10 to 15 later than it was ( or two races later ) before the number 5 had his first race just one race earlier

I think The Number 4 is at a disadvantage in as much his first ride is up against the home 1 & 5 who have both already had one ride.

Im enjoying it very much, much more heat leaders v heat leaders which produces interesting heats. There was also quirks in the old format like the home number 2 last ride was heat 10. There will always be anomalies in whatever system they use

In my opinion the new format is like a breath of fresh air. Long overdue , great for the young brits, less mediocre imports, no heat leaders in disguise on a false assessed average at reserve more even races with heat leaders meeting heat leaders , reserves meeting reserves. The league may be "watered down" to a certain extent but that is offset by the way the riders meet each other.I think most people would be hard pushed to come up with a better format with the way the teams are built.

agree with all of the above...

more races with more evenly matched competitors, what's not to like?...

and with the two brit reserves, even if they run a last, they at least look as if they are wanting to race rather than the many previous 'journeymen' who often gave the impression that they were more bothered about getting to the airport on time for the next mornings flight..... :o
