Coventry Bees V Leicester Lions 18/4/14

Recommended Posts

Love Dave Hammond and his smooth easy cheerful style. What is really odd this year is the total lack of any thought that has gone into the music presentation. No rider theme tunes, no signature Geno or Ride On Time or Fanfare for the Common Man or Final Countdown or War pre race build ups. Instead we have .... The return of that old anachronism, the National Anthem! You couldn't script it...

Well we know why that is don't we? No Chris Simpson. The promotion do the right thing in getting Dave Hammond back again as the announcer then ruin everything by returning to how the presentation was twenty years ago with the national anthem and poor music.

Well done to the Lions on keeping the scores close and earning a bonus point. Not the best racing but at least there were a few passes to keep things interesting on a very cold evening.

Better performances by Hans and Harris last night. Both had more speed but if Hans misses the gate you know where he will finish.

His gating doesn't seem as sharp as it used to be.

Garrity looked quicker last night too, just needs to try and stay on a bit more!

Will Hansen be ruled out tonight or is he hoping to ride as I see it was only bruising and taking pain killers

Track looked better with a bit more dirt laid down

Howarth again looked excellent, we need to try and sign him! Can see why Poole wanted him on that average!

Well done to Leicester for getting an away point - it'll be interesting to see if Coventry can return the favour tonight! Great score for Howarth again - looks like he's set for a great season.

Hope Patrick recovers quickly and it's good to hear that Hansen won't need any time out - although a few of the Bees riders must be feeling a bit bashed up at the moment!

Think we are really going to miss Howarth when absent and has alot of fixtures (11 I think) he will miss.

Wish we could have brought him. Got riders like Barker and Kennett we could do with selling, problem is the only club that wants Barker have no money

If Bees were to buy Howarth mid season would they be able to get preference over his fixtures?

Finally saw some passing after the interval when good rides by Harris, and especially Ljung going from third to first, livened it up a bit. Prior to that I can't recall a single pass after the opening lap back straight unless someone fell off. Talking of which, Garrity's fall while leading heat 9 and on a Bees 5-1 proved to be a bit of a let off for the Lions. Heat 15 was a good race too and well done the the Lions for hanging in there and getting the away point. Must say, I was very impressed by Kyle Howarth. Great to see a young British rider doing so well and I suspect the Bees will miss him tonight.

It is no wonder he chose a different team other than Poole to sign for after the shambolic way they treated him last year.

I would imagine he will want to sign for the Bees anyway. And good luck to the lad. If he had been looked after by Poole no doubt he would have been even better by now.

So good to see some British boys with real fight to improve, long may it continue.

As an asset i would hope so.

Stevebrum - I didn't mean Leicester (and def not brum) will make play offs.

What I was saying is some teams will do better on certain tracks than others due to having riders who are "track experts" at that track.

That's also something promoters often consider when looking for guests

That's why Hansen would be a big miss for bees tomorrow as a Leicester track expert and rides very well there

With Garrity in agony through injury and Hans riding with a busted knee. Both nowhere near fit and still only lost by 2.

Hansen a Leicester "track expert"!!

How many times has he raced at Leicester? I can only recall one meeting, but i stand to be corrected there.

From other posts on BSF, it sounds like he prefers grip and getting out wide to pick up drive.

After the Leicester v Lakeside match last Saturday, the Leicester track curator said on this forum that he'd had to take dirt off and right out to the fence (ie. away from the race line) because the riders were complaining.

So I wouldn't expect to see much this evening, from the start.

For anyone who doesn't know, this is how to be a Leicester track expert (as performed by M.Karlsson whenever he was in the mood):

1. Gate fast and hit turn 1 in front.

2. Take a narrow and sharp turn into bends 1 and 3, then move outwards (but not too far) in a smooth arc through the apex. Exit bends 2 and 4 by continuing the arc outwards but not too far out, as if you do that you'll run out of track. Don't stay too close to the curb or others will just go past you.

3. Repeat no.2 above another 3 times and nobody will have a chance of getting past you without having to knock you off your bike.

Caution: if you do decide to go into the dirt out by the fence, the chances are that you and your bike will part company with each other.

And no one wants Kennett

If last night is anything to go by i would expect another very large crowd tonight.

Don't you think it's about time the Leicester handyman got his saw out and made a couple of more holes in the fence so that there are more than only two places you can pay to get in. Perhaps the National Trust has bought the fence and some sort of extensive planning permission would be needed to make this happen.. In short get there early or join a very long cue.

I think you can get tickets in the bar,but is it by card payment only, maybe someone can confirm this, but maybe wise to get tickets from there if you can .Because like Nightshift says unless they've cut another couple of holes in the fence to serve people the queues could be long & i can feel a delayed start coming on.
