crescent girl
What are the pies ? It's a deal clincher. What are the pies? Marky, they are delicious, is what! Burgers from first bend are certainly the best in British speedway -- and the pies from the hut on the fourth turn are just lip-smackingly great. crescent girl
From Berwick's e-mail Newsletter to supporters tonight: FIM GP CHALLENGE - JUNE 7th Expect an invasion from the left-hand coast for this major event! With Workington's ace Aussie Josh Grajczonek on parade alongside former Comets (and local lads) Craig Cook and Richard Lawson, Derwent Park promoter Laura Morgan has perhaps wisely decided to postpone her PL fixture that evening, allowing Cumbrian fans to travel east in numbers, ready to lend their exceedingly vocal support to the trio. screm
Berwick are preparing to stage their biggest meeting of the season next month - the FIM World Championship Grand Prix Qualifier. The event will be staged at Shielfield on Saturday, June 7 for the second time - it was last held at the stadium in 2012. But the line-up for the meeting has yet to be concluded. “We are awaiting the nominations - one rider each from Austria, Hungary and Slovenia,” said Berwick promoter Ryan Anderson. “The two Danish representatives will not be known until after their domestic pre-qualifier on May 15, and Poland has also decided to pre-qualify their riders, and will stage a race-off on May 18.” When known, the final names will be added to those of the already-nominated Chris Harris and Craig Cook (Great Britain), Australia’s Jason Doyle and Josh Grajczonek, Glasgow skipper Theo Pipjer and Mattieu Tresarrieu from France, Germany’s Tobias Kroner. Linis Sundstrom (Sweden) and Tomasz Suchanek of the Czech Republic. Official practice will be at 12.30pm on June 7th, and while it has not yet been approved by the FIM that fans will be allowed in (in the past they have, making a donation to the Speedway

screm
We are informed that the Danish authorities have named current GP rider Kenneth Bjerre (currently in Tampere at yesterday's practice and aiming to take his place in tonight's Finnish Grand Prix despite a recently-broken collar-bone) and 4-time Grand Prix winner Hans Andersen as their nation's contestants in our huge FIM qualifier in three weeks. Two quality Danish stars, right out of the very top drawer! We hope to learn of Poland's nominations early next week, after a qualification event there on Sunday. It has been confirmed the public will be permitted access to official practice on the Saturday. Doors will be open from 11.45am until 2pm, with the riders on track for one hour, from 12.30. Edited May 17, 2014 by screm

These tournaments are six Polish representatives. After swapping seats between Janusz Wheelwright and Peter Pawlickim, next to castling. This time, "Koldi" will start in place of Maciej Janowskiego in Ljubljana, in turn "Magic" will go in Berwick. The Polish authorities changed their nominations, lets call it my Berrington Lough moment.

crescent girl
According to my Berwick sources (OK, the club's excellent e-newsletter) Matej Kus will be riding on June 7th, as Slovenia have failed to nominate a rider, and the Czech Republic picked up that nomination. Excellent for Matej, who is in fine form, and for local publicity and support. In addition, we now know that Hungary will be tracking 19-year-old Roland Benko (currently racing for Plymouth) with the final part of our jigsaw being the mystery man -- Austria's Daniel Gappmaier, from Sankt Martin, near Salzburg. crescent girl
Berwick's e-newsletter people really excelling themselves today: IT'S MAGIC! No sooner had we checked (and indeed double-checked) all the official e-mails and notifications from the FIM, BSPA and PZM this morning, and promptly issued your Black & Gold Bulletin this afternoon -- indeed exactly seventeen minutes after it hit your in-box -- we had word that the PZM wanted to change their minds about their nominations for our GP Challenge! A little bit later on, yes -- with fulsome apologies from all concerned, came the news from Poland. Januz Kolodziej is out -- he'll now ride in a different round -- and 2011 World U-21 Champion (and runner-up in 2010 and 2012) MACIEJ JANOWSKI is in! Now, with apologies to Mr Kolodziej, that's a swap we'll take every day of the week! Maciej (he gets called Magic, although that isn't how his name is properly pronounced) Janowski is quite simply a probable future World Champion. Racing with distinction in Poland for Sparta Wroclaw and here in the UK for Poole Pirates (alongside his countryman and fellow Berwick contestant Przemyslaw Pawlicki) young Maciej has already had a sniff at a couple of Grands Prix as a track reserve, and must be immediately rated as one of the favourites for the top step of our podium on June 7th. The complete line-up, in riding order, for the meeting will now be: 1. Chris Harris (UK) 2. Jason Doyle (Australia) 3. Mathieu Tressarrieu (France) 4. Roland Benko (Hungary) 5. Tobias Kroner (Germany) 6. Kenneth Bjerre (Denmark) 7. Josh Grajczonek (Australia) 8. Maciej Janowski (Poland) 9. Linus Stundstroem (Sweden) 10. Tomas Suchanek (Czech Republic) 11. Matej Kus (Czech Republic) 12. Hans Andersen (Denmark) 13. Daniel Gappmaier (Austria) 14. Przemyslaw Pawlicki (Poland) 15. Theo Pipjer (France) 16. Craig Cook (UK) 17. Richard Lawson (UK) 18. Lewis Bridger (UK). Edited May 21, 2014 by crescent girl

When Berwick had this meeting before the field that night was good but not great IMO, this time round IMO this might just be the best ever field for a meeting since Berwick returned to Shielfield. If the weather behaves itself Berwick should be rewarded with a massive crowd.
