screm
Right out of a clear blue sky, Berwick Speedway has been again selected by the FIM (the World body governing motorcycle sport) to stage one of a trio of worldwide qualifying rounds for the 2015 Grand Prix. We are one of just three circuits in Britain currently authorised to stage FIM events explained John Anderson. Having been honoured to have a GP Challenge event here in 2012, and one of the World U-21 Finals last season, we honestly weren't too disappointed not to be included in the 2014 international calendar Britain was in fact only allocated one FIM event this year, the World Team Cup qualifier at Kings Lynn in late July . However, the authorities have apparently been having organisational problems with the GP qualifier to be staged in Austria, at St Johann on June 7th, in just eight weeks' time and Britain has been asked to step in and take over the organisation and staging of this meeting --- and I am honoured, and so pleased that the FIM and BSPA have tonight announced the event will come to Shielfield Park, maintaining the original date of Saturday, June 7th! More details of the event, and official line-up will follow although British riders Chris Bomber Harris and Craig Cook are already confirmed by the BSPA but the very fact of Berwick again being chosen for a prestige international event, with the parallel boost to the town of a very welcome influx of travelling fans from all over Europe, speaks volumes for the border stadium's growing reputation throughout speedway. Improved track lighting, our world-class foam-filled safety fence, and a hugely-experienced meeting presentation team it all adds up to Berwick again being recognised by the FIM as one of Britain's, even Europe's foremost speedways observed George Hepburn. Roll on June 7th, another date when the eyes of the whole speedway world will be fixed firmly on Berwick! screm
Chris Harris and Craig Cook have been nominated by the BSPA, with Jason Doyle coming in to represent Australia.
Marksman
Lawson named as reserve for the Berwick meeting, he should be in the main meeting, seriously how many chances does Harris need it's beyond a joke now.
SCB
Harris is still a better rider than Lawson, as such should be in it. It's the World Championship to find the best rider - not the title to find the rider whos had the least number of chances. if it was Greg Hancock would have been kicked out the GPs a few years ago as he's had his chances to win it now (and done so twice). if you're good enough you get a go and Bomber is still good enough to at least be given the chance to qualify. The poor guy cant win, he doesn't qualify and he's arrogant and expecting a wildcard, he qualifies and he should be giving another rider a chance. Woz01
Bomber is Britains number 3 (number 2 if you don't include Nicholls) so of course he deserves his place in the qualifying rounds. Its upto the youngsters to be above him in a British Final then they will deserve a spot.

I agree Harris is still one of Britains top riders it is not his fault the standard is so poor.If he gets through all the rounds he is entitled to be in the GP.He got very lucky last year though.(through no fault of his own I might add)

screm
Harris has no place in the gp qualy or gp. You people are deluded if you think he has. That's total rubbish, I`m not his biggest fan but even I would admit that Harris is one of the top GB boys, remember Berwick isn't the only qualifier, for example Ritchie Worrall has been nominated for the round at Abensburg and I think Danny King has been nominated for one of the others.
RedcarRacer
On current form King and Harris are both very local to get invites.

No he is total rubbish. In his own mind he must know he has no chance of ever being world champion and should not waste his time or money. He will never be World Champ, that doesn't mean to say he cant or shouldn't be in the GPs.
Boobs
Much depends on who the Danes, Swedes and Poles nominate, but Chris Harris will certainly start this meeting as one of the favourites. Craig Cook too!

That statement applies to almost every rider in the world yet you use it to attack Bomber. Poor.

george.m
Chris Harris has as much right to be in the qualifiers as anyone else. If he chooses to participate that is up to him. The man makes his living out of the sport.
HenryW
I don't see a problem with Chris Harris racing in the qualifiers. He has earned the right to take part by being one of the best British riders, even if he isn't quite up to the standard of the GP series. I'm sure he'll be happy heading to Berwick for this round rather that going to St Johann again where he was knocked out of the qualifying rounds last year.
