April 26: European Fim Speedway Grand Prix (bydgoszcz, Poland)

He didn`t do much for us but hey I don`t hold grudges, well done to Kasprzak he fully deserved his win, a lesser rider would have given up when Ward sailed past but Kasprzak kept on to the end and for me averted a nightmare. Am thinking Kasprzak could be World Champion 2014..........

When his head is right, he's brilliant. It didn't work last year, but what did work for the Bees? He's still part of the 2010 winning team :approve::t: I love him regardless!:D

MAYBE what Emil says in public is not necessarily the same as he says in private. If he doesn't regret not trying to be World Champion, given his huge talent, then I have seriously mis-judged him in the past.

I wouldn't argue that a SGP in Bydgoszcz is not the crowd puller it would have been with Gollob and Sayfutdinov participating but there is also no hiding the fact that speedway there isn't as popular as it was.

Which is a shame because, as previously stated, the track produces fantastic speedway worthy of a huge audience.

Think we all knew from the advance ticket sales Phil that something was amiss here and was not the "pretty much par" that you described.I think you and the rest of the speedway world know the reason for a one off pitiful attendance in Poland has everything to do with the politics that exist between,FIM,OneSport and BSI and not the non appearance of a Polish rider.Pretending to look the other way does you a disservice as a journalist.

I'M not looking the other way. I just don't agree that the only reason (or, indeed, the prime reason) the attendance tonight was so poor was because of the politics as you call it fought out during the winter.

Ultimately the FIM caved in and agreed that riders could compete in both the SGP and the SEC so why should Polish fans just stay away from the SGP out of spite?

If the crowds for the SWC and the SGPs in Gorzow and Torun are smilier to that at Bydgoszcz tonight then your argument might carry more weight so maybe we should just wait and see.

Fantastic GP, had money on KK to win (only wish I'd have put more on at 10/1!), it really felt right with his result in New Zealand and his Polish league scores so far, a rider at the very top of his game. Hard to like him after the attitude he displayed with the Bees last year but no doubting what a fantastic rider he is to watch when he's up for it, and hey, the money I've won tonight pays me back my entrance fee for some of those woeful displays I went to watch from him last year!

Couldn't believe that move from Greg to re-take Ward in the semi, not bad for a rider who doesn't have a reputation for giving it the big one around the outside!

what a brilliant meeting to watch and the best rider on the night wins which is always good to see.

what is it with Ward. rides out of his boots to hit the front in 2 races then seems to not know how to defend it. let Hancock go round him then KK get back to him in the final. Guess he will learn with experiance

YOU'RE a tough man to please...

True though isn't it?! I've seen a few absolutely wonderful gps from there over the years with constant passing every heat, but the track has slowly changed over the years, still good but could be so much better .....

Brilliant racing after the second round of heats. The overtaking was breathtaking and what a final. Well done KK and Ward, apart from a couple of tactical errors, showed how good he can be.

Shame about the crowd size, those that did not go certainly missed out on great racing and a Polish winner.

I hope Tai can get whatever the problems are sorted out soon.

Bring on the next one.

So the crowd is down because of no Gollob but they wouldn't pay Gollob to ride. Clearly they should have paid him what he wanted then!

That would have been financial suicide with regards to all the other riders in the series. All hell would have broke loose

Hancocks experience and KK's speed. He'll learn and is still probably the most exciting rider in the world to watch.

I may have got this wrong but Tai seem to comment to Sophie Blake that he knew what the problem was and it was up to him to deal with it not saying what it was or real giving anything away. But seemed to relate it to the 7 points he scored in the Grand Prix series last season. Also said that he had to get his finger out and then tried to retract that remark straight away.

Scott Nicholls was asked by Andy Jaye about his comments and thought it was engine bike setup problems. I take the other view and wonder if it is mental or more so physical health problem ie collar bone or some other injury that he is carrying or something else that is playing him up.

I reckon its his bikes. Last year he had a big advantage with his machinary - the difference in speed between him and Emil at places like Latvia was marked. This year they seem down on power.

Can't believe that the 'company' line of the weather was to blame for the low attendance filtered down to the Eurosport commentators. I thought the programme was over and was in another room but i heard that statement as i was returning. Gee so we take it that speedway supporters are wimps and cower indoors at the sight of rain?

I've had lots of praise for Scott Nicholls and Andy Jaye they've been great, i don't lay any blame on them but they really did end up acting as a biased mouthpiece. I gonna move to North Korea for a superior semblance of see no evil, hear no evil etc.

Well Poland's a big country and the speedway venues are spread out over a big area. I wouldn't have travelled more than 50 miles if the weather was threatening the meeting, which it obviously was if they were taking dirt off the track prior to the start, no doubt a lot of Poles would feel the same.

I'm not too bothered about the size of the crowd, more concerned with seeing decent racing, so for me it was a decent evenings entertainment.

As for the presenters, not often you hear commentators of any sport knocking attendances, doesn't help in terms of promoting the sport.

Cheers for the racecard again Paul, really enhances my enjoyment of the meeting being able to fill in a 'programme', interesting to be able to keep a points tally for each gate, something I've never done while at a meeting.

Gate 1 43pts

Gate 2 40pts

Gate 3 27pts

Gate 4 28pts.

More wins off Gate 2 though.

Does that constitute anorakistical behaviour on my part?

totally agree 100%

trouble is he is SO good at coming from the back he lacks a bit of tactical nous to stay there but as you say he can only learn

It just doesn't feel right watching on my lap top while wearing a Wulfsport jacket and a scarf with yearbar badges hanging off it, still, what I do in the privacy of my own home is my own affair I suppose. :D
