Rye House V Plymouth League Cup 5 April

Recommended Posts

Super updates from MikeyT tonight, coupled with the ryehouseupdates on Twitter - I really enjoyed doing that one!

Fascinating result - should make Thursday's meeting at Foxhall a lot more interesting than people were expecting, even if Benko & Katajisto have never ridden Foxhall before. Jensen had several after meeting rides in 2012 - he's good friends with Heeps and has stayed with Heeps' family in Aus for the last couple of winters.

Thanks very much for doing the updates.

Katajisto is pretty special. Counted 5 overtakes by him tonight, weighs up the opponents and then cleanly by (no rash decisions, plenty of time). Enjoyed his tussle with Newman ht12 - After being replaced in ht10 by Katajisto, there was no way he was going to let him pass :)

Overtaking at Rye House?

Surely not!!

There was and quite a bit of it too! Win or lose I'd have enjoyed that meeting tonight some very decent races!

I said in my updates I wasn't sure if Rye are worse than I though or we are better - I'm sure it's a mixture but tonight I was very pleasantly surprised. Simota, Barker, Jensen and Super Kalle were great value for Plymouth. A crucial point from Reade where he was so much better than his other two rides and the same could be said about Benko who was poor in his first, okay in his second and much better in his third. Newman found some speed in his last ride and again a crucial two points.

For Rye only Kennett really looked like being tough to beat. Bowen plugged away and Boxall was okay but I do wonder if Lambert and Tresarrieu will be there long term!

The double header with Ipswich and Somerset along with the trip to Peterborough will perhaps answer the conundrum I raised above as to how this Plymouth side can fair.

On Simota's most recent displays you have to wonder if Davies will walk into the side when he gets over. I'm currently set for humble pie on that one!

Its important not to over react but the last two matches confirmed what many felt that this years team was not right.

Kennett - Far better than I thought keep going Eddie we sure need you

Boxall has been fine but being asked too much from because of others failings

Garrity still has great potential but has had a real up and down start to the season so at this point not the second heat leader required

Tres he is what it says it on the tin, but never a true replacement for Nelson

Bunyan a fine second string but I doubt he will ever return to a genuine heat leader

Bowen well done Luke clearly still giving it everything for the cause

Lambert very sad

In short don't panic but there must be concern at ground control that we have a team of a genuine No 1, 4 second strings a fine No 6 and a pure passenger.

But luckily Asprgren is a total flop at Somerset

just home from rye house and what a good meeting to watch from a Plymouth point of view. great team effort from Plymouth with kalle and sam coming from the back to get there points mostly but rye house were weak and kennett will need more back up than he had against us in 2 meetings this weekend.

Lambert is a big concern ive never seen a rider look more awkward on the track. How many points would we have if we did replace him

Was ludicrous bringing him back in the first place. Ben Morley would be better at home and just as good away.

Stefan Nielsen hasn't got a team spot, could probably fit him in when the averages change and he likes Rye.

Absolutely delighted for the Devils riders and management, all of whom took flak after the AFC meeting against the Rebels a week ago.

As with all such things, it can't last because Kalle will be very quickly bumped up into the main body. With Kalle at reserve it gives the manager all sorts of options as last night showed. If and when Alex Davies is granted his visa it will be an interesting and difficult decision for the Devils management as Sam Simota is clearly not just turning up for fun - he's obviously fully commited to the Devil's cause and fair play to him for it.

Pleasing also to see that young Roland Benko is giving it a good go; especially after all the criticism here and elsewhere even before a wheel had turned.

Panic setting in after what 3 matches?

PA system was awful. The smooth Craig Saul sounded like he was announcing in a tin shed. The roving mike held by Len Silverman at the start was just a distorted mish mash. The fish was dyer and the Rye performance. The excuses, no Garrity & Bunyan, and poor old Simon Lambert getting slated. One rider don't make or break a team. It's the whole team that either win or loose matches. Trouble is Rye have a outstanding number one and quite honestly the rest are second strings/reserves. Fluke in my opinion winning at Peterborough and it's going to be a long hard season for Rye. Crowds will drop unless wholesale changes are made, but that's I unlikely to happen. A cheap team, no traveling to and from Europe hence all English bar the ferry crossing for the Frenchman.

Hinge and Bracket (Silverman & Sampford) it's time to move on, but we all know that ain't going to happen.

Agree with everything you said there! - also feel it was out of order Craig giving out the result from the GP that morning, I had already watched it but several people near me hadn’t and were fuming with him as they had asked me not to say anything about it.

In the past they said if anyone wanted to know the result pay a visit to the box and they would tell them personally there.

No one has mentioned the battles between Kennett and Barker?
