Scunthorpe Scorpions Vs Redcar Bears (lc) Sunday, April 6th (3pm)

DOUGLAS BOOST FOR SCORPIONS

THE FLUID-AIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions are involved in a double-dose of League Cup action against the Redcar Bears this week.

The Scorpions travel to Redcar tonight (Thursday), before entertaining the Bears at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday afternoon (3pm) in a double-header also featuring the Scunthorpe Stags in National League Knockout Cup action against the King’s Lynn Young Stars.

A big boost for the Scorpions is that Australian Ryan Douglas received his visa through the post on Monday, and is hot-footing it to the UK. His flight is due to arrive this morning.

Barring any hiccups, Douglas is expected to line-up at Redcar tonight, and will definitely be back for Sunday’s home meeting.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It will be great to have Ryan back.

“As I said to the supporters over the Public Address on Sunday, one rider does not make a team, but he can make a big difference, especially when he’s a high-scoring reserve.

“Of course, it was a disappointment to lose at home to Sheffield last week, and no-one likes us losing at home less than me, but there were plenty of positives in there.

“Our skipper Ashley Birks was just fantastic. Six months ago, his whole career hung in the balance after he sustained a back injury – and the chances of him being ready for the start of this season seemed remote.

“But he’s worked hard to get himself back in physical and mental shape, and he was rewarded with a paid 11 score last Sunday, and then also finished up on the rostrum in the individual at Sheffield on Monday. It’s just like Ash has never been away.”

Godfrey is looking forward to a cracking meeting against the Bears on Sunday.

He said: “I think it’s going to be a belter. Redcar have three ex-Scorpions in their side in Carl Wilkinson, Richard Hall and Jan Graversen. It promises to be a terrific meeting, with great racing – and I also want a Scorpions win!”

Sunday’s adult admission price for the double-header is £17. It’s just £2 more than a single Premier League meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway, for 15 extra heats of action.

The circuit rightfully has won the award, several times, for being the best racetrack in the Premier League, so a full and exciting day of racing is ahead.

Adult: £17.00
Student/OAP: £15.00
Child (10 – 17): £5.00

All the best to Anders. Wonder if Scunny will go with a guest or R/R at Number 1 on Sunday. After seeing the way Scunny have started a guest might be a better option although 7.33 doesn't give many options.

Best Options probably are

Leigh Lanham 7.16 (Although he was there last Sunday so 7 days rule might come in to play)
Morten Risager 6.90 (Seem to remember him doing well at DH's Testimonial last year 2nd I think it was)
Claus Vissing 6.89
David Bellego 6.36

Will Anders be fit for the Scorpions ?

From Rob's most recent post on Twitter Anders was to under go an operation on his spine; so first and foremost all thoughts and good wishes to him. Its terrible to lose our No1 with hardly a wheel turned; but his speedy return to fitness is the uppermost concern. Lets try and take some positives out of last night Ryan sounds to have given everything for little return; Matt did exactly what was expected of him with 4pts; while David and Tommy posted heat wins. It must have knocked the stuffing out the team to lose Anders to what is reported as a dreadful crash. We can but re-group for the return on Sunday; we have some very good speedway riders in our team and they will want to respond.

For me I would go R/R at the EWR. Anders has the highest average so any of the remaining Scorpions would be eligible to one of his rides. Chance to get extra competitive track time for the four who take the rides.

I don't like R/R if another unfortunate incident occurs your down to 5 (as Number 8s usually don't do much if even declared) and that can give you a big disadvantage to a team.

Howe still getting back to fitness
Auty Struggling.

This continues a 2nd home defeat could happen. A Guest is a safer option.

Sounds like back injuries again and not good, totally gutted for Anders & wishing him a speedy and full recovery. The sport is truly brutal at times and could now be faced with having to consider a major change even at this ridiculously early stage? Picking up the pieces from last night, we are still a team of b-good speedway riders so lets get at it! :t:

Get your point but would still tend to favour R/R at the EWR. To me we are now 'seeing out' the League Cup (as early as it is) and if Anders is out then the others will benefit from the extra track time. We can cover it at home; and bring in a guest away from home. If this is a long lay off for Anders then if it was me I would wait for the first set of averages before considering any replacement. Not suggesting we deliberately ride down the averages but they will come down meaning that our options may be greater on the new set of averages. For instance Ty Procter might be a possibility and he definitely wants a PL ride.

So going with it now may make us better placed when Anders's situation becomes clearer.

Richard Hall thrown out the meeting for kicking Josh Auty while he lay on track injured? Classy that Richard. What an idiot. Surely deserves a ban for this?

Can't be punished twice for the same offence. Martin Dugard will tell you that after he punched Steffan Andersson.

Not saying it's right but a lot of riders have wanted to give Auty a slap for a while now, maybe he does need to consider some of his moves a little more - he can't really claim youthful exuberance any more, he's a season campaigner now.

That said, Hall is a moron. It's hardly a new revelation!

More worryingly is Auty is in the ambulance and they have lost the key!

BSPA should have one of their "investigations" and give hall a serveral month ban!:mad::mad:

What type of person kicks another man while on the ground injured??? I know a pathetic loser who is an complete coward!!!!!

Richard Hall should be ashamed of himself he hasn't just let himself down he has let down Redcar speedway and it's fans!

Hope Redcar sack him for this!

I wouldn't. He's proved he's a thug who'd hit you.

What is it they say? "Stick and stones..." A few nasty words on the internet is nothing compared to physically injuring someone.
