Berwick Bandits V Edinburgh Monarchs (lc) Saturday, April 5th

Recommended Posts

Both teams made decent starts to the year in the challenge matches, now we get to see them in earnest on Saturday night.

Probable line-ups would be: BANDITS: 1. Kevin Doolan, 2. David Bellego, 3. Matej Kus, 4. Matty Wethers, 5. Claus Vissing, 6. Liam Carr, 7. Steen Jensen. MONARCHS: 1. Craig Cook, 2. Aaron Fox, 3. Max Fricke, 4. Derek Sneddon, 5. Sam Masters, 6. Justin Sedgmen, 7. Stevie Worrall.

Shielfield Park track was in excellent condition last Saturday, and the meeting went very smoothly -- what do we think will happen this time around?

Edinburgh will provide a sterner test than Redcar , but the Bandits look a solid unit and i expect them to come out on top . The size of the victory depends pretty much on Edinburgh's reserves . Steve Worrall was outstanding home and away against Glasgow , his form will determine how close Edinburgh push Berwick

This will be a close encounter IMO. Cook will take some beating I think Masters will do abit of damage Sneddon is pretty consistent round Shielfield.Certainly will a much bigger challenge than last Sat.Bandits just to sneak it for me. Claus will be our main weapon in the big heats .Early days but should be a good meeting track looked ok last week albeit slick .

From Berwick newsletter:

Due to a late cancellation, a rare opportunity for group hospitality at the forthcoming Bandits v Monarchs match at Shielfield Park has become available. Fancy a nice early-season evening in the warm confines of our hospitality box? Commercial boss Lani Rae has space available on Saturday for the visit of Edinburgh Monarchs. Visiting groups would be welcome, of course! She is also able to accomodate couples and even solo spectators who want to escape the chill of late spring -- do not be shy about asking Lani if she can fit you in this week. To discuss further, contact Lani Rae 07779-227535 or lani@berwickbandits.co

Today brought the astounding news from Berwick Bandits' speedway promotion that for 2015 they intend to return to a new, purpose-built speedway-only stadium on the site of their former Berrington Lough home, near Wooler.

Promoter Dennis McCleary explained: “We have given this matter a lot of thought, and decided to announce our news today, rather than have it leaked on the internet or other means”.

“We are aware how successful big-league racing at Berrington Lough was when we were there before, and have decided to make an immediate start on rebuilding the stadium, with a view to attracting a team capable of emulating the glories of 1991”.

“If all goes well, we will apply for elevation to Elite League status as early as next season, and bring the best riders in the world back to Berwick-upon-Tweed”.

Fund-raising for the project will begin almost immediately, with the first planned venture being the launch of a calendar, featuring members of the club's promotion in tasteful speedway-themed "calendar girl" nude poses.

Dennis McCleary is available to talk about the projected move on 07713-101372.

I think its feasible we've got a great fan base, the promotion have shown how to build a winning team especially after beating Redcar...

But my question is if we lose at home to say Unibax Torun will it be a lack of home track advantage or will the boys need extra time to fine tune there bikes?

I'm not a huge advocat of the EL, well I think its a piece of dung to be honest however the prospect of watching Peter Ljung ex Reading and Daniel Nermark former maximum man at Berwick certainly wets my appetite.
