graz gp
Great victory. Very optimistic for the season, that result should give the lads plenty of confidence. I no it's only one meeting but could the good time's be coming back to Owlerton. I hope so.
DIAMONDS
Has anybody heard how the 2 lads are who were injured in the academy meeting in heat 2 ? Looked nasty. It was Reece Downes and Brandon Freemantle not sure about the injuries though and I didn't see the crash as I wasn't there
lucifer sam
Don't like to gloat. But. Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. Get in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBhmCHqU_mw Spinny, you can have that one yesterday. After all, Scunny did the league double over the Tigers in 2012... and again in 2013. And we'll just do the double double over you guys in the 2014 Premier League Seriously though, 'twas a good meeting yesterday and there should be some cracking meetings between the two teams this season. All the best Rob
Steve55
It was Reece Downes and Brandon Freemantle not sure about the injuries though and I didn't see the crash as I wasn't thereIt didn't look good, the county ambulance came and took both of them (I believe) to hospital. It was a typical first bend melee where the riders from gates 2, 3 & 4 all 'went for it' and got in a tangle. Two of them seemed to hit the air fence together and at least one of them went over the top! It was difficult to see from where I was as the air fence panel lifted on impact and flew into the track. Another was on the track and he was having gas and air before they put him in the ambulance. Just one observation is that once the air fence panel 'lifted' behind it was armco crash barrier, in front of the earth banking. That's ok for the first rider hitting it (provided they don't then go over the top!)but if there's another following on and the air panels gone!!! That's just my observation, I believe at Sheffield the barriers in front of what was the existing fence, a much safer proposition in my view! If anyone knows different I would be interested in finding out.
montie
Great result fo the Tigers yesterday, once Scunny looked like pulling away but fair play to the Sheffield riders for pulling it back then dominating the latter heats to take a fine win If they can get Poole going and somehow keep Compton at reserve for as long as possible they will be there or thereabout come September I was impressed by Birks, first meeting back since breaking his back an looked brilliant--so please to see one of the good guys in the sport back to what looked his best, same could be said of Roynan
jonesy
The best team won - all credit to Sheffield for turning a 6 point deficit into a 48-42 success. There was some good racing and passing and both teams could take positives from the performances of riders returning from injury. Great start for the Tigers and a decent crowd too. Let's see what Thursday brings at Redcar for the Scorps.

The feel good factor is certainly returning back everyone connected to Sheffield speedway.
scunny1
Well done Tigers on your win, could not attend due to airport run so making my judgement from what I can deduce. Scorpions sadly missing our Aussie, match won and lost at reserves. Wish we could get someone of Andre's calibre as a ringer, you are in my Fantasy team so keep it up. Both teams will feature in top 6 barring injuries.

Albert
Tigers the deserved winners on the day. Their more experienced riders came up trumps with some good gating and cute battles round turns 1 and 2. Sheffield looking good, especially with Compton filling a reserve berth, Scunny got Ryan Douglas to come... plenty reasons for both teams to be excited about this coming season.

thebaron
Really enjoyed the meeting yesterday despite the Tigers coming out on top 48-42. But the meeting was not really about who won; for all the riders were winners here. Lets not forget that both teams had riders returning from serious injury in 2013. Scorps; Ashley Birks and David Howe, Tigers; Simon Stead and Adam Roynon, To see them going for it and showing few ill effects in their first competitive meeting back is a real credit to them as riders and sportsmen. Stead was outstanding. It is very very early days so nothing to worry about if your a Scunny fan or get over excited about if your a Tigers devotee. Just whole hearted effort on the part of both teams who should have plenty to say in the chase for Premier League honours. Was looking forward to seeing the Stags return to the NL; but this was marred by the horrific Heat 2 pile up which did put a damper on things to say the least. Unfortunately it was a case of three riders going for it on turn one, and Kent's Brandon Freemantle and Stags Reece Downes coming away with injuries. Freemantle appeared to get trangled up in Reece's machine as he let go of it! squared up and went straight into the air fence and over the top on to the grass banking. An alarming spill and very clear it was not one you walk away from. The air bag punctured and the fence at the back against the grass banking will not forgive!. A lengthy delay of about 45mins while both riders left for the hospital and the 'air' literally went out of the meeting. However a great effort by the rest of the Stags particularly Liam Sanderson who took 7 rides and a few falls but will have learnt much from his debut. Another pile up involving Aaron Mogridge and the Kent pairing in Heat 14 curtailed the meeting with no medical cover available. An entertaining start to the season, with Ryan Douglas due in from Oz this week the Scorpions will be at full strength for the League Cup ties v Redcar. Tempted to make a first trip to the North East on Thursday to back the team.

The new Promotion at Sheffield have been like a breath of fresh air, and seem to be bringing a buzz to the place.
Steve55
Certainly hope so, I have a huge amount of respect for Rob Godfrey, and what he has achieved at Scunthorpe. Rob Godfreys' performance with the mic on the centre green was one of the best I've seen or heard at a Speedway meeting. His interviews with Damien Bates and Neil Machin were great, especially his 'sign offs', to Damien - "you can get back to the wife now" and to Neil - "Your history now anyway!" Brilliant, who writes his scripts?
