Rye House V Panthers (east Of England Cup, 2nd Leg) 29/03/2014 @ 7pm

Recommended Posts

Solid showing from the Rockets in a not so spectacular meeting.

It's early days but Lambert is doing nothing justify getting yet another chance in the PL unfortunately.

Overall I'm optimistic, Garrity and Boxall can only get better and Kennett will not lose many races round Rye this year.

As for Dryml, it's no surprise he only mustered 6 points, he will average the same in whatever league he races because he relies on his gating solely. Poor signing for Peterborough there.

I'll ask you for the third time, how are EL teams using squads?

I'll explain then

First rider i looked at who as a Rye House contracted rider i have an interest in is Jason Garrity. He is being used by Coventry, they are a Friday track and there happens to be FOUR friday tracks in the PL two of which are the same PL Cup group as Rye House. Looking at the fixture list four meetings clash so Coventry will be a rider short. They will target another rider that they will replace Garrity. Adam Ellis will be in exactly the same position with Lakeside / Ipswich. This I'm sure will be replicated at most clubs in the EL These Elite clubs will have a plan in place to replace riders where they know they will have riders unavailable. With Rye House they have three riders two of whom will ride for two clubs one will ride for three and for It to be suggested that these three miss Rye House meetings be they challenge meetings or not is ludicrous

No EL Clubs may not have a group of eight or nine riders in team kevlars at their press day but they have a squad like it or not.

I hope that helps your three times asked question

That isn't a squad though. That's using guest riders. If you were a Birmingham fan you'd be pretty annoyed that Kennett was missing a meaningful league match to ride in a challenge, especially around a track he knows well.

Challenge meetings are bottom of the pile as far as meeting priority goes. I could be wrong but I'm sure that the list of priority is as follows:

Shared event

Parent club (regardless of division)

Elite League

Premier League

National League

Challenge (regardless of division)

My first visit since 2011 and to be fair I thought the track didn't look too bad and it certainly wasn't dusty.

Once the racing action started it was clear that trapping still played a major role at Rye and the Rockets (Lambert apart) were all very good with Kennett exceptional.

Panthers were not helped by missing two riders and although the result wouldn't likely have been different I think it would have been a bit closer.

As a Panthers fan I want to see a full strength team, I couldn't give a stuff about Eastbourne and Wolves.

Have to say that the fish and chips at the stadium now is awful, which is a shame as it used to be very good.

Nail on head Ben. There are no squads, just lots of guests which is far from ideal. But for westhamboy to suggest that PL teams should always get priority is silly. He has mentioned Kennett and Ellis while making his point and I'm afraid they are both EL assets 'on loan' to the PL and there are plenty of others like them.

Kennett, Lambert and Starke should all have been at Eastbourne last night racing in an official fixture. If the Eastie/Brum match was a challenge and/or the PL matches were not then they should all be riding for their PL teams. A challenge shouldn't ever take priority.

I admit I haven't tried the fish & chips there for a few years, but from experience in a previous life it doesn't look at all appetising. The batter looks flat and dry. I remember when the fish bar first opened. The product was very good, but over the years the quality seems to have dipped alarmingly.

So, is Kennett a contracted Brummie or Rocket. I feel that the track who owns him should have priority whatever the event. Is there a list that shows who owns who. Knowing the BSPA they'll keep it under wraps to confuse eveyone else like they confuse themselves. I don't know who owns Blackbird and Jacobs either, but no matter what, whichever club is the owner of a rider, the club

should have the final say on which team he rides for when fixtures clash. Well done to the Elite League, they've managed, at last, after many years of trying, to put a spanner into the Premier League, which has always been run the best. I hope it still manages to. Tell the Elite League to sod off!

Welcome to the wonderful world of the BSPA. Full of positivity after the AGM but then the season starts and reality sets in, somewhat earlier in 2014 it has to be said. We don't need any April Fools jokes this year, we've already had them!

Walking into the stadia the fence certainly brightens the place up and track 'appears'

Wider in parts although the first bend camber is still there!!

The track was very slick but very smooth - so suited Rye more I guess - a rider like Dryml might struggle in those

Conditions.

Rye should have a good season if Kennett and Boxall are anything to go by - I see a resemblance to the rider

Experience we had in 2005 but all depends on how the reserves score.

Kennett and Jacobs are both owned by Coventry not sure about Blackbird.

What annoys me more than anything is my team were disadvantaged which helped Eastbourne and Wolves, two teams who have shafted Peterborough at every opportunity.

In terms of putting a spanner into the speedway works, the PL is rapidly becoming the new EL. They are continuing with an over-complicated play off system that teams struggle to shoehorn into the end of the season. They've now added extra "conference" matches that add to inequalities in league performance between teams. They failed to buy into the "young" rider programme, whatever the reason for its introduction, and, despite always having had the better of the doubling up system, we now have the ridiculous situation of PL teams insisting on riders appearing in a meaningless challenge when they should be riding for their other team in a league match.

The whole thing is down to a lack of riders, UK speedway simply does not have enough riders to go around and the after cutting the EL down to help a lot of superstars with as few matches as possible and to cut costs over the years it's not enough for second strings or reserves to get by on.

One answer would be to run EL and PL on different nights, that would cut all this guests and RR crap out overnight.

It's quite simple, if a rider is riding for two/three sides and owned by none then the higher league should take priority. The riders who are occupying EL reserve spots should in the main be racing as PL reserves in a draft system and the likes of Roynon, Birks, Howarth, Kerr, Boxall etc should be in the EL reserve draft anyway. Looks like a cost cutting exercise dressed up as a fast track system from where I'm sitting.

You don't need to be sitting anywhere to come to that conclusion.

very good turn out, cannot believe that uncle len hasn't got more that 2 panels of advertising on his brand new airfence, The airfence certainly ruins the view from the 4 bend.... !

Thought the Rockets looks pretty damn good - all with the exception of Lambert who just looks so uncomfortable on a bike and never shows any signs of improvement. Think the rockets could suprise a few this year so long as the guys remain injury free (touch wood!)

No Blackbird and Jacobs ruined the meeting as a contest which was always going to be processional with it being a challenge match and all that. Fish and Oystercard were the only 2 Panthers who looked half decent - which was dissappointing.

I trust that they were all upstanding for the national anthem.
