EL chose to have squads Pl don't so the right decision and thats why the PL is the best product and has been for several years. PL been propping up the EL for long enough.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

There is no such thing as Squads, and the PL needs the EL riders as much as the EL needs to the PL riders.

The PL doesn't have its house in order either so time to get a wake up call.

Surely if Barker has to ride for his EL club then so does Starke? Or vice-versa.

My thoughts exactly.

Rules need to be applied consistently across the board. Either the PL fixture takes precedent or it doesn't.

If it does, both Barker and Starke should be at Somerset. If it doesn't they should both be at Brandon. It shouldn't come down to the goodwill of certain promotions to release riders for fixtures, or certain clubs choosing not to enforce their priority status over riders for particular fixtures in order to help other clubs or riders out.

By having situations like this, it gives the impression gamesmanship is taking place (even when it might not be) which does the sport no good at all. In this case, one might make the supposition that it's convenient for Birmingham that Starke misses this fixture, but less convenient for them that Barker does so. Therefore, Birmingham call in a track specialist guest for Starke whilst Barker retains his position for Birmingham.

Jacobs riding at Brandon makes the Brummies team stronger in my opinion. I suspect it might be the opinion of a great many others too.

Weather seems to be brightening up, just depends how the track stood up to all the rain yesterday

Need to avoid Toll Bar island as traffic is a nightmare around there!

A threat of rain around 2 but apart from that it looks good. I echo the advice about Toll Bar Island, I work in the industrial estate just of it and it has taken upto 2 hours to get over the island.

Is there anyone going to this meeting who would be able to text updates to the Updates site? If so, could you please send me a private message including your mobile number.

Thanks

The Premier League is a total disgrace, and has been since it became awash with foreigners.

You have teams like Glasgow tracking not a single Brit, even going to the lengths of employing a French rider!

All of the recent(!) British World Champions came through the second tier when it was a decent league, but there's fat chance of that occuring again with the PL in it's current state.

Taken from CET:

Brandon stadium bosses are confident their major track overhaul will in time result in a racing surface to be envied across Europe.

Over 80 tonnes of material have been applied to the circuit in between rain showers this week to completely change the composition, and hopefully eliminate the problems which beset the start of the speedway season last weekend.

Weather permitting, the Buildbase Bees launch their Elite League campaign tonight against Birmingham (7.30pm), and the attitude from all concerned has been that the work will be complete in time for that meeting if humanly possible.

The changes centre around reducing the clay content with the overall aim of providing a grippier, looser track to produce fast racing on a uniform surface.

Track curator Marek Meinert confirmed 56 tonnes of 2mm-6mm granite, along with 28 tonnes of stone-based shale, with zero clay content, have been worked into the surface, which will also assist with drainage and reduce moisture.

Meinert said the major changes to composition are designed at re-balancing the circuit and are intended to be a long-term solution rather than a quick fix, with improvements to be seen over the coming weeks ultimately providing perfect conditions for both speedway and stock car racing.

The enemy of the work which has taken place is the weather, as the stone and shale is necessarily mixed and packed into an existing surface rather than building a completely new track from scratch.

Conditions this week have been showery, and every downpour sets the work back somewhat, but speedway promoter Mick Horton will be kept informed of the progress with a view to running tonight.

Should that be the case, the Bees will hope to get off to a flyer against a Birmingham team who were heavily beaten 35-58 at Wolverhampton on Monday but do boast plenty of experience in their ranks.

The new race format will be a step into the unknown, but Bees big guns Hans Andersen and Chris Harris will definitely be paired in two races prior to Heat 15, while Andersen teams up with Ryan Fisher in Heats 1 and 10.

For the Brummies, Edward Kennett makes his first return to Brandon since leaving at the end of the 2012 campaign, and they have made an astute guest booking at reserve with last years Storm captain Joe Jacobs standing in for the unavailable Paul Starke.

Horton said: Were desperate to get the team on track and the stadium are keeping me in touch with how the work is progressing.

We do need a bit of luck with the weather, and I know several other matches have been called off this week, but we will update people on Friday.

Everyone has been so excited about the new season and we have to put last weekend behind us now, and hopefully get a good win to start off with.

BUILDBASE BEES: Hans Andersen, Ryan Fisher, Kenneth Hansen, Kyle Howarth, Chris Harris, Jason Garrity, James Sarjeant.

BIRMINGHAM: Danny King, Adam Skornicki, Ben Barker, Daniel Nermark, Edward Kennett, Simon Lambert, Joe Jacobs.

Just downloaded the app for iPad and can't see this meeting listed in the speedway section. Will the live stream be available for iPad or do we have to use a laptop?

On a pc, at the top of the page is a tab marked live streaming. Open this and down the right hand side is a list of today's live streams. Don't know about the ipad.

Think I'll try sticking to the Speedway Best Pairs on Eurosport this evening for the first hour or so - should be a better meeting, for those that believe its only the top riders that provide great speedway!!!

Pairs is being repeated numerous times over weekend, have decided to follow Swindon and other meetings on updates tonight and then watch pairs tomorrow.

Brummies line up is deeply uninspiring. Expect Hans not to drop too many points and Bomber to be paid for double figures. Unless Garrity has a rush of blood in his first ride, this one should be all over bar the shouting by the interval. A season dicing with Leicester for the wooden spoon awaits the Brummies IMO. It's funny but when (on the face of it) we have a good team I start getting nervous before a match like this. I'm particularly keen because there isn't a single rider whose presence in the team I could really criticise and some like Fish and Bomber are personal favourites. Also glad Sargent gets a run in the team so I won't be telling anyone later that they screwed up. It's down to the riders to perform. And no Kasprzak!!!
