Polish Extraleague Play-off Final Sunday October 5th Plus Div 1

Recommended Posts

20 mins of Rawicz v Pila on Monday here http://speedway.tv/3999/kolejarz-rawag-intermarche-rawicz-kz-victoria-pila-21042014

Caught up with the matches via YouTube and super quality video.

Not that great trio of matches. Torun was rather dull affair.

Czesto miss Laguta.

Can't get the Lodz 1st Division match though :(

You may have a point even for an idiot.

Team spirit goes a long way but obviously Torun have the power if as you correctly point out they can avoid silly injuries.

I think Tarnow look rather good myself :)

If you could get a Polish ip address(quite easy to do I believe) you could watch the Lodz match here http://sport.tvp.pl/14887873/zuzel-nice-polska-liga-orzel-lodz-gkz-grudziadz-mecz

Thanks Pawel. Enjoyable slice of "rustic" speedway. Why wasn't Mrs Rempala riding? What is that building on turn 2- The Shady Nook Motel- 1 zloty for 4 hour rental? Thought Vissing was a bit unlucky to get excluded in heat 15, but there you go. Next time can we get a look at the start line girls please. :t: All the best. Alan.

I myself like Div 1 and 2 matches better than extraliga.Mariusz Fierlej is interesting character I am surprised he came back to speedway after being absent for 6 years some of which he spent in prison and for one he is not the only rider that has spent some time in prison they were quite a few others I wonder if they were any riders like that in british speedway

Going back a bit  but Split Waterman who came second in the 1951 World Final had a "chequered" business career.

After speedway, Waterman went into business in sheet metal working and plastic injection moulding, making plastic goods for companies such as Woolworth and Airfix.[2]

In 1967 he was arrested at Newhaven while attempting to board a ferry to Dieppe, after gold with a value of £10,000 was found in the chassis of his fiancée Avril Priston's car.[9] A subsequent raid at Priston's family home in Bedfordshire found illegal firearms.[9] Waterman was convicted in 1968 of attempting to smuggle gold out of Britain, as well as unlawful possession of firearms including two sub-machine guns, two rifles, and three pistols, and possession of dies for forging coins, and sentenced to four years in prison.[10][11][12] The gold was thought to have come from a bullion van robbery in Clerkenwell.[12] Priston was convicted of conspiracy to smuggle gold and possession of two pistols and a pen gun, and was sentenced to six months in prison.[12]

I think he is still living in Spain- he'll be about 90. All the best. Alan.

Alan-popped into see the Gniezno track on way to Poznan airport yesterday(2nd time I have done that) and you will be interested to know that the "Boleslaw the brave" meeting is this Wednesday evening(not as good a field as in previous years-although KK is there.

Worth it just for the PARADE !! Shame it won't be televised (I presume) because it has always been rattling good entertainment. I'm sure you had a great weekend and glad you got back safely. Back to normal next weekend. :t: I guess we should keep our eyes out for this Poland v Oz meeting this week. Hope springs eternal. All the best. Alan.

Another one, Pawel, and a bit more recent was Coventry's Australian rider, Gary Guglielmi, who shipped his bike back to Australia at the end of the 1984 season.. Only problem was he had filled every opening- tank, handlebars etc. with a white powder. ( and it wasn't self raising flour!! ) The sniffer dogs went to work and Gary was a guest of the government for a while. Shame because he was good. Such is life. Alan.

Good stuff Alan always bunch of interesting fellas in this speedway game but hey you have to be bit nuts to ride a bike with no brakes.

Totally agree my friend. I've always said that I totally admire and love them all, but you have to be slightly bonkers to risk your neck every race. :t: Sent you a PM re streaming. Best. Alan.

Saw Gary ride many times for Boston he was a great rider.

Didn't something happen like that to Mark Courtney, another great rider to watch, where he was given board and lodgings on us.

And surely Jack Millen was the craziest psychopath ever to ride a speedway bike if he was never in jail it was probably the authorities were far too frightened of him. Funny thing was off the bike he was a really nice bloke.

Thanks for interesting info guys. Marek Molka and Zbigniew Blazejczak from 80's and beginning of 90's Falubaz Zielona Gora both very talented riders committed murder and were sentenced to long prison term in 1994 really sad story especially since it was committed for financial gain.

I presume you mean Jack Milne- 1937 World Champ.? If so, I honestly don't know anything about him, other than he was very influential in US speedway in the 60s/70s/80s. Dad told me about he and brother Cordy 'tearing it up" in London in the 30's- but hey they were young and crazy like we all were (To some extent. )

Yes, remember Mark Courtney falling afoul too.

After being arrested in May 1997, Courtney was sentenced to six years in prison in 1988 for his part in a plot to import cannabis with a street value of GB£500,000 into the UK.[1]

Still luv'em when they are at the tapes. :t: Regards. Alan.

New Zealand rider Jack Millen rode for a lot of teams in the 70s.

Jack was as tough as nails on the track and would have eaten Nicki Pedersen as a light snack.

His legendary antics earned him the moniker Mad Jack Millen, Millen The Villain, or Crazy Jack.

Had the privilege of being able to boo him on many occasions as he set about the opposition.

But remember he never refused a kid an autograph. Sadly died in 1978 in a car accident on the way to the track whilst riding for Berwick.

The old "You live and learn " mate. I must have been sleeping when he was around as I've honestly never heard of him until you brought him up. Bloody sad way to go, as well. Hope he's smiling down from the "great pits in the sky" I love what you say about him never refusing a kid an autograph. All the best. Alan.

Great stuff there.

One of a dying breed even back in those days. None like him nowadays.

The White Knight here will remember him well as he rode for Sunderland.

Saw him with a few of his teams and he loved to be the Pantomime Villain.

He was the Dick Dastardly of the sport but 100% trier who gave no quarter and never moaned if he got a bit of what he gave out unlike Nicki P who if it was an Olympic event could whine for Denmark :)

I remember hearing about his death and it was a talking point among fans all across the country.

I have a lot of respect for the man we all loved to hate and the sport wasn't the same without the bloke.

And I think that is the highest compliment a sportsman can ever have
