Steve Shovlar
http://edition.cnn.com/2014/03/19/sport/tai-woffinden-speedway-tattoos/index.html CNN, an American channel, now running a story on Tai. Has he been signed up by a large PR company? If not why not? Carl Fogarty recently posted on his twitter that Tai was about to become Britains next sporting superstar. To do so needs a serious media team behind him. Hope he gets one in place to organise his off race night calendar.
IronScorpion
He is also on Sky Sports Saturday morning so his mum, Sue, is doing a cracking job. His profile has shot through the roof since becoming World Champion & also Minority Sports Champion(i think that was the title) & MCN Man of the Year. He & his team have done plenty to promote speedway & himself. How much air time do you want for the lad. He, also, needs time to chill, relax & refocus for 2014.
Lord Skid
Walk down any uk high street and ask who Tai is, and they won't have a clue, let's face it, in the Uk unless you read SS, nobody knows the sport exists, take away the diehards, and the lights have been turned off.
Daniel Smith
Tai came across very well on Game Changers this morning. Seeing as it's based around kids none of them seemed put off by his physical appearance. He seemed to enjoy himself and isn't frightened to make an idiot of himself either. He really is the best thing Britain has had in the sport for decades and I've turned into a major fan of his.

SCB
Walk down any uk high street and ask who Tai is, and they won't have a clue, let's face it, in the Uk unless you read SS, nobody knows the sport exists, take away the diehards, and the lights have been turned off. For sports relief on Friday we had to dress up in work as our "favourite sports personality". I bought a set of Coventry Bees kevlars on ebay and wore them, nobody knew who/what I was and when I mentioned speedway they assumed cars. Irrelevant sport despite all Tais coverage, sadly
Lord Skid
Sadly SCB, it confirms my point, maybe the sport should get Eddie The Eagle to look after the PR, worst performer we've ever had, but the most exposure, and still to this day, everyone knows who he is. LagutaRacingFan
Woffinden's not exactly giving Speedway a good image, We need to move away from the old stereotype. What we need is a world champion who doesn't have tattoos, grooms nicely and speaks elegantly. Chris Holder or Michael Jepsen Jensen for me. Superb article and video, thanks for the excellent link. I've just done a search within an online tv guide and it doesn't come up with any results under the CNN listings is this or will this be broadcast on the actual CNN channel?
robert72
He looks a real mess, do people seriously think he is a real role model to kids or a great advert to speedway off a bike? He doesn't have the right image

He doesn't have the right image Not the right image for advertising earl Grey tea or bridge club memberships. But for attracting thr younger generation and the extreme sports fans he has the ideal Image imho. It's 2014 not 1940.
woodenspoon
Speedway is a very minority sport, and will stay that way. It surprises me that it has survived as long as it has. It is forever shooting itself in the foot, though after the weekend Coventry fiasco, it has shot itself in the head, Sky must regret having renewed the contract. As for Tai, Ok having tattoos and ear loops, as a speedway rider, but as a role model, parents must be dreading their kids following his example, and wanting the same adornments.

He doesn't have the right image Let's see. Polite, well mannered, stays out of trouble, dedicated, focused. Set his goals, achieved them, fighting through adversity throughout. Damn good role model.

Set his goals, achieved them, fighting through adversity throughout. Damn good role model. I would go along with ALL that you say in your Post BW. I can, however, see how his Ear Loops and Tattoos can put some folk off. I must admit that when he is on the Television I spend as much time looking at his Tattoos as I do listening to him. I certainly would not like my son to look like that. If he went for a Job - would you employ him?

His looks aren't my cup of tea, but if I were an employer I wouldn't base hiring anyone on looks alone. Let's see. Polite, well mannered, stays out of trouble, dedicated, focused. Set his goals, achieved them, fighting through adversity throughout. Damn good role model. A far better role model than a young man who on the outside looks reasonably clean and tidy but uses profane language on social media, has been caught with drugs, appeared in court etc. I know which of the two I would prefer a daughter of mine to go out with. Never judge a book by it's cover is an old adage but a very very true one. Edited March 24, 2014 by Star Lady
John Leslie
If he went for a Job - would you employ him?If I was a posh solicitor looking to recruit a trainee then I certainly wouldn't employ him based on looks alone. If I was a promoter of an extreme sport like speedway, I'd certainly employ him.
