Rivalries

Recommended Posts

There doesn't seem to be many long lasting rider rivalries any more..all the top riders seem quite matey...maybe riding with each other all the time round Europe has made them too matey

The rivalries like Carter v Penhall, then Americans in general....Nielsen v Gundersen etc ..genuine needle..all this seemed to add something to meetings....I like a little needle and genuine rivalry

I enjoy the races between NKI and Pedersen :-) Seems pretty big rivalry between those two with Niels currently in the ascendency :-D ✴

Every Dane has a mission. To beat every other Dane.

Do you include Ben Barker and Craig Cook in that remark? :D:P

Stoke and Sheffield was a pretty heated rivalry.

I used to love those meetings. It always helped that Sheffield travelled in numbers to Stoke, and it always gave a fantastic atmosphere. The anger when Richard Hall took a heat 15 was a sight to behold!

Wolves V Cradley without a doubt.

Those who didn't/haven't experienced it have missed out majorly and I suppose will never understand.

You would have good mates, i.e. the Americans.. Ermolenko/Correy/Hamill/Hancock etc do anything and I mean ANYTHING to beat each other in those matches... even challenges.

I just hope they stop creaming the money and get Cradley back up to the top flight where they belong so we can see more!

West ham / Hackney in more than one era

Rye House / Mildenhall as big as any in the late seventies

Wolves V Cradley without a doubt.

Can't see it happening for the reason you state..money. Seems crazy that the most profit can be got from the lowest of the three leagues but then again says an awful lot about the structure of the sport

Nothing even comes close to Wolves and Cradley.

But to be fair,it was so much more hostile, before the Yanks arrived.

So much bitterness in the Ivor Brown era, even got a caution myself from the Old Hill constabulary, and i didnt even do anything, bar shoving a air horn up someones skirt.
