First wolves meeting of the season coming up, the old fashioned Banks's Olymipque classic. Great night to see all the current and some old Wolves riders. Updates will be covered by me tomorrow night, link will be posted.

It's great to see that this meeting is still in existence, because most of the old individual meetings have vanished now. I recall going to this meeting in the 1960s, and from memory, Ivan Mauger won it.

You must have seen it at Newcastle then, because I think Wolves only started having the meeting in the 1970's after Mike Parker sold out of Newcastle, and we had Ole Olsen off them. As a note this meeting is run without handicaps, that traditional meeting will be run towards the end of the season as usual.

It was definitely not Newcastle, but it may have been in the early 1970s. There must be a list of previous winners somewhere.

The Olympique began In 1966. It was held twice at Newcastle -, in 66 and 67. Barry Briggs and Anders Michanek the winners. It then moved to Wolves in 1970. Ole Olsen won it every year he was a Wolves rider : 70-75 inclusive.

Ivan Mauger was a regular competitor but never won the event.

Updates and Radio WM both said it was a big crowd.

Good meeting and a good line up. Very good sized crowd for the opening meeting, possibly helped by favourites in PK, Freddie and Sqora plus the entertaining Kildemand and Nicholls. Add to that the first appearance in Wolves colours of Piotr Pawlicki and also his big brother and it's no wonder the crowd flocked in to watch.

 

1 - Ricky Wells - Very impressed with Ricky on his new bikes and was well on the pace. Was only beaten by the top riders and a 10 point return was well deserved.

 

2 - Patrick Hougaard - Remember him making his debut in this meeting at just 16 years of age and he hasn't really improved much on that showing.

 

3 - Tai Woffinden - Two good wins followed by a effort from the back to pass Kildemand but no catching Peter Pan. At ease although still a bit race rusty.

 

4 - Adam Skornicki - Good couple of wins the highlight. Always popular at Wolves and a good signing for Brummies.

 

5 - Freddie Lindgren - Was trying out new engines apparantly ? ..... Looked more like Ludvig with battles for minor points.

 

6 - Jacob Thorssell - Great first ride but had to wait for his final ride for another good result.

 

7 - Ty Proctor - Race rusty, needs more track time and may well struggle early on this season but it will come good in the end.

 

8 - Piotr Pawlicki - Looks like he could be a real track expert at Monmore soon and can hold a great inside line. Likes to mix it and chase the back wheel but wins over Tai, Killer and his big bro showed he can be a big scorer in 2014.

 

9 - Nicolai Klindt - Started well but faded. Can be a decent second string but his former potential has gone.

 

10 - Ashley Morris - Good showing and never left for dead. Led Tai and Freddie for a while and on the pace.

 

11 - Peter Karlsson - Brilliant showing by the 44 year old and passed Scott without much effort. Smooth and controlled which is suprising since he has hardly been on a bike since his injury last season. Deserved winner.

 

12 - Joe Jacobs - Tried his heart out but struggled to exit turn two a few times. Will come good and Tai and Sam will be around to help out.

 

13 - Daniel King - Not really showed much and beat Piotr was his only real scalp.

 

14 - Peter Kildemand - Always full throttle and 4 laps away from the title run off but a bad gate in heat 20 cost him. Certainly one to consider for the GP's in the future.

 

15 - Shamek Pawlicki - Very impressive and like his brother will be a big scorer in 2014.

 

16 - Scott Nicholls - Always good at Monmore and only a mistake let PK through. One day he may finally get to wear the Old Gold N Black ?

 

 

A few were blowing away cobwebs but next week it's straight into action with the first league match of the season v Birmingham ..... All we have to wait and see now is the riding order as no one (inc Tai) knows what number they are going to be at yet !!
