I am really surprised you do not know that Martin Vaculik is Slovakian and they hold international meetings at the Zarnovica track.

The 227 bus from Crystal Palace to Bromley doesn't go that way. Poor joke on my part. A fairlly unfamiliar name and track for me but I do remember Red Hamley and Stan Beardsall at Womblwell in 1947. I take it the other countries are also active. Seriously, I do appreciate your help. :approve:

Yes there is speedway in Latvia, two semi-well known riders are Andrejs Lebedevs and Kjastas Poudzuks.

Both have signed with teams in Swedish Elitserien for the 2014 season.

Lebedevs signed with Rospiggarna and Poudzuks signed with Ikaros Smederna.

There is this one island north from France. Speedway was big there 25 years ago. I think it was UK or something like that.. ;)

I thought it was the other way round? Obviously my geography is wrong? :nono:

Why should I have to take an interest in speedway in Slovakia?

You don't have to take an interest, feel free to stay in the 1950's, it's a free country

That's nice of you, but I was an active attender at Wimbledon until they closed in 2005! And I first went there in 1948 when Wembley beat Belle Vue.

Erm, Vaculik won the SEC, ie, the european championship in 2013, and he rode in the gp's in 2013 also..

Unbelievable.

But I don't follow that sort of racing. Why should I know? On the other hand I do know that Grant Tregoning was the top rider at Oreti Park, New Zealand, in the past 2013-14 New Zealand season. And he doesn't drink coffee!

Yeh yeh, we get it.. Old time speedway..you went....yawn.

You dont like things going off topic, so keep this on topic for a change.

Btw, a quick trip to google answered your question instantly - with many threads on this board alone about Estonia for instance. I'll let you find out for yourself tho as you've got time on your hands i'm sure.

A cynic may think you posted this thread just to attract some attention and start some more chaos.

Is there speedway in these European countries - Slovakia (as to Czech Republic), Latvia (I think so) and Estonia? Many thanks.

Latvia has staged multiple SGP meetings. Also subject to it being upgraded in time Riga is set to host the Latvian GP this year.

Lokomotiv Daugavpils currently race in Polish First League with superb attendance figures. They have raced in the Polish Leagues since 2005 and before that in the Russian League from 1995.

Guess the above makes the answer to 'is there speedway in Latvia' a yes :)

Ummm see your opening post and topic of the thread ;)

Perhaps a few days off work is the reason i've started posting again - unlike your latest sabbatical which was of course, a ban.

Now dont go off topic please. There is speedway in all of the countries you mention. Happy ?

It wouldn't really bother me if they didn't stage speedway. I just wondered if such small countries were involved OR NOT in speedway.

There are a couple of tracks in Estonia. The main track is just outside Tallinn. The Tallinn Hippodrome has also staged longtrack racing in the past. The sport has staged a revival in Estonia in recent years, but it would certainly be still considered to be a minority sport.

Last year, an Estonian Team rode in the Kaupunki Cup (Second League) in Finland.

Don't lock it yet until i've posted last seasons attendance figures for Lokomotiv Daugavpils league matches lol

6,500
6,000
4,300
4,000
6,500
5,000
5,000
4,500
Bear in mind that is not the top level league so no attraction of seeing the world's top riders in action, and also a couple of those matches resulted in expected hammerings of weak visitors and one meeting with the home side having a stripped down team.

Bulgaria and Ukraine also have some speedway.Once a year a couple of Bulgarian riders seem to pop up in an open meeting at a track in the far east of Germany,so i guess they must have a small scene in Bulgaria.Ukraine seem to be a bit in the wars at the mo even on the speedway track. If i am right the speedway scene is in a bit of chaos and two of their best riders who are originally Russian are now changing back to being Russian. There has also been for years trouble behind the scenes, but think a few years ago they did even have a small league of about 3 or 4 teams

Surely they have to wear protection or did they have a couple of testimonials last season.
