BWitcher
Fair comment. We will have to agree to differ on this matter. I would just add that IDENTITY is important to youngsters - it is part of what attracts them to a Team. Speedway Teams no longer has that Identity and, as I said in my previous Post - a small part of Speedway's drop in Attendances may be down to this. Just look at Team Colours in Football, Rugby etc. all of these have their Colours prominently displayed - so should Speedway. Sorry WK, but really struggling to follow you now. You're saying identity is important to youngsters, and its part of what attracts them to a team... You're saying look at Football, Rugby.. that they have their colours prominently displayed... I'm with you and agreeing with you so far.. But you want to have 7 riders in completely different colours instead of 7 of them wearing the colours of their team.. as in the other sports you mention! But they all wear exactly the same Race Jackets (apart from the Number on the back) - THAT is my point - THAT is their TEAM identity. Different coloured Leathers/Kevlars would add some colour to proceedings.

When watching 4 bikes racing round a track from the terraces, the race jackets aren't particularly visible at the best of times. Speedway is far far more professional looking in team kevlars. Fans, new and old can tell at a single glance which team the rider races for.
billybikespeedway
I don,t think you will ever get a level playing field for either side to agree on. I started going in 1965 when I lived half way between Oxford and Swindon ,my cousin lived closer to Swindon so I used to go to Oxford thurs, and pick her up Sat to go to Swindon. In those days Oxford had Jimmy Gooch,Ron How,Arne Pander, and Colin Goody as their top 4 Swindon had Barry Briggs,Mike Broadbanks,Martin Ashby and Bob Kilby as their top 4 .I could never split the two teams as one better than the other so come local derbies it didn,t matter who won .I think the racing was better teamwise than now as don,t matter who was out in what heat be it star or reserve the better rider always looked after his team mate .IMO speedway took a backward step when laydown engines took over from uprights ,they are much faster but more unpredictable and there are (although air fences have helped ) much more serious injuries in the last decade than there were then.Another major factor in this problem is track materials and track maintenance and I say this being a trackman (retired cos no one wants me ) but not being crabby just putting my honest opinion .I Hate to Be Nit Picky but you must have started going to Oxford in 1964 by 1965 Colin Gooddy was No1 At Exeter, and as far as Bob Kilby Being top 4 in 1965 For Swindon His Average was only

So to clarify, your argument is You want fans to able to identify with their TEAM. You want it to be like football and rugby where they all wear the same colours. You want all the riders to wear different colours. Ok.

Any colour = Kevlar/Leathers. Team Identity = Race Jacket + Emblem. It is the Race Jackets that should be the same in my view. Get it!!! ruffdiamond
it would be like when at school and it was 'PE or games', and all the council lot turned up in whatever sportswear was clean or had been handed down to them, but not of a uniform style,,, you would get red or yellow bib's, so professional looking, much better than these days when all kids wear the same gear,,, a dunno how they know who to pass to, lol

In the past it wasn't so bad as most riders wore black leathers. The team kevlars, at least all the ones I have seen, have the club emblem in exactly the same place as a race jacket has it. So I really don't see what your issue is!

I think MOST people will understand what I am getting at - whether they agree with me or not.

You may scoff - but it made towards the ENTERTAINMENT. Perhaps that is a dirty word these days. Have you got Colour TV yet - it's GREAT - it has various Colours on it.

Trees
I'm with TWK, I liked the days when riders were able to wear individual kevlars, it 100% helped with identity! Many riders are recognisable by their style but certainly some are not. I can totally understand why they brought in team kevlars but there are negatives with them as far as the fans go!
