70's Hero Peter Collins Outscores George Best, Dennis Law, Clive & David Lloyd Etc

Recommended Posts

Great to see Peter Collins win the 'Manchester Hero of the 70's' ahead of an illustrious field consisting of;

70s Award
George Best
Denis Law
Colin Bell
Mike Summerbee
Clive Lloyd
David Lloyd
Farokh Engineer
David Watkins
The question/poll that was asked was who is Greater Manchester’s greatest sportsman or woman from the last 50 years?
The Manchester Evening News asked their readers to decide ahead of a glittering awards ceremony held in front of 400 VIPs at the Hilton Hotel at the first We Love MCR Sporting Legends Awards Dinner.

the PC brigade stike again

great to see PC win this . and it shows that speedway is not a forgotten sport in Manchester , If PC is in the forefront of enough peoples minds for him to beat the likes of George best then it shows there is an appetite for speedway In the area

Not sure where to put this, but a great big well done to Peter, up against some big names also.

That's impressive when considering the quality of the opposition. This was the time when British Speedway ruled the world, and EVERYBODY wanted to race in our league.

Wonderful memories, Wonderful times, Brilliant Speedway. So pleased I was able to live and enjoy the iconic period of 1970's

(Make love not war !!!) :t:

Can't speak for Moxey but I certainly did. PC was (and still is) my all time favourite and the accolade is well deserved

Oldace - will you please STOP Posting things that I have to 'Like'?

I am NOT used to it.

The man is an absolute legend and always will be.

Takes me back to Blackbird Road in the mid 70s when Belle Vue came to town.

I've even got his autograph on my old clip board.

Well done Peter do you still have the Kevin Keegan perm?

well done Peter Collins Not My favourite, Never Liked Coming To Somerton Park ,And Often Didn't ( Broke Down En route ) Didn't like his TV commentary, But Still A great Rider on the World Scene

To be fair that was the night after Tommy Jansson was killed and Somerton Park was not the safest track about. I dont recall any other occassion where PC ducked a match there. He wasnt alone in his dislike of newport, Malc Simmons wasnt a fan either!!
