foamfence
When you think about it quite a lot of Australian riders actually live here and have done for years, they only go home for short periods, maybe applying to be a Brit would get round the visa problem for some? Arson fire
http://www.speedwaygp.com/news/article/3165/british-switch-for-schlein  Personally I think this is about personal gain, as I says about Germany and the GP qualifiers but I certainly would be pleased if Rory decided to get outings for TeamGB. It's not like this hasn't happened in the past with some World class Australian's and New Zealander's.  Personally, I think he could help drive up the standard of our British lads as it becomes more difficult for them to then get it.  Right now we have Woffy & Bomber, after that the quality is much of a muchness. Cook, Barker, Worrall, Bridger etc there isn't much between them. Including Rory will upset some but that means with the Brits they'd have to up their game.  Thought's? no thanks... Rather give the youngins or new lads experience
Phlipphlopp
Nothing personal but he made his choice by birth. Really ? You think it was his choice ? Cosy in mummy's womb , everything became perfectly clear obviously.
LagutaRacingFan
Schlein isn't even that good.. Why would we want him? Jepsen Jensen on the other hand, The name Michael must have a British ancestor to it.
HenryW
Rory has British ancestry, is married to a Brit and lives in Britain. If, and it is a very big IF, he chose to apply for British citizenship, I would have no problem with him being considered for a place in the British SWC side if he declared that he was interested in racing in the SWC for Britain. Â As Cj69 has mentioned, there are a few leaps being taken here as a few of those things have so far not happened and so it's all fairly irrelevant... Â Of course, maybe Rory is just getting himself prepared to race as a Scot once independence is declared
mikebv
yep, ryan giggs played for england no he didnt... Â he reprsented the ENGLISH SCHOOLS BOYS TEAM Â the qualifying criteria for which is where the school's location is not the nationality of the player...... Â the school was in salford, england hence he played for the 'English Schools' team.. Â Diego Costa on the other hand has played at first team level for Brazil (twice) and is now in the Spanish squad!!! Â "It's a funny old game", I believe.... Â Stupid comment, you must know what I meant in my post. He is an Aussie who rode for Australia.
Humphrey Appleby
Diego Costa on the other hand has played at first team level for Brazil (twice) and is now in the Spanish squad!!! In today's mobile world, I don't really see it as a problem to change national teams once - especially between youth and senior level. What you want to avoid is nationality tourism, with competitors chopping and changing as if national teams were club sides. Â In the long run though, I think national sides are going become a bit of irrelevance. Clubs having paid so much money are going to be increasingly reluctant to share those assets with for virtually no compensation, and if there's effectively a transfer market between national sides it all becomes a bit pointless. iris123
Quite agree Humph. At the moment the Hamburg side, who are ever present in the Bundesliga(i think the only team)are on the verge of getting relegated for the first time. They have just yesterday lost one of their main players, who was in the german squad for the first time, because he was injured in squad training!!!It really could cost them millions if they get relegated, partly through missing thier top scorer in the vital run-in
Grachan
If he is applying for British Citizenship and taking the Life in the UK test then fine. Â Only if he becomes properly British though. I wouldn't agree with it if it's just down to racing licences.

As he's ridden already for Australia, under no circumstances should he be allowed to rider for GB, if not for that I'd have no problem either... J-D
In this day and age of mass people movement it will be hard to stop such things happening.  If a person chooses to reside in a country for a set period of time, pays taxes and works in that country, then subsequently owns a house and has kids born in that country and qualifies for a passport then I cannot see any issue with it. I was discussing the validity of a person choosing to change nations. So hardly nonsense. The thread had actually got people talking about real issues which this list is often lacking these days because <removed - unacceptable language and personal attack on poster>
