Daniel Smith
http://www.speedwaygp.com/news/article/3165/british-switch-for-schlein Personally I think this is about personal gain, as I says about Germany and the GP qualifiers but I certainly would be pleased if Rory decided to get outings for TeamGB. It's not like this hasn't happened in the past with some World class Australian's and New Zealander's. Personally, I think he could help drive up the standard of our British lads as it becomes more difficult for them to then get it. Right now we have Woffy & Bomber, after that the quality is much of a muchness. Cook, Barker, Worrall, Bridger etc there isn't much between them. Including Rory will upset some but that means with the Brits they'd have to up their game. Thought's? You can race for another country in individual competitions with just their national licence, but I think you need to have a passport from the country you're racing for in team competitions. SteveLyric2
Its no secret that Rory had a big falling out re the Aussie WTC team selections in particular, so I don't find it surprising that he might be examining all his future racing options - however and why ever they are motivated!! Bagpuss
The late Matej Ferjan rode for Hungary in the SWC a few years back, don't think he had a Hungarian passport but could be wrong. Rory has lived over here for several years and has an English fiancée so don't see a problem with him riding in the British Final and the GP qualifiers as a 'Brit' but having already represented the Aussies in SWC he shouldn't be able to ride for a second country IMO. phillipsr
Love him to ride for us but not at the expense of youngster such as Worrall, Lambert etc but definately in front of Barker,Bridger and the likes
dontforgetthefueltapsbruv
No thanks -he is an Aussie and has ridden for Aussie so should remain an Aussie. The strength or otherwise of the current crop of Brits should not influence this. Also I dont think he should ride in British Final or qualifiers for the same reason as stated above.
Deano
Tough call, but I would welcome anyone wishing to put on the Union Flag and ride for Great Britain. If there were a lot of talent coming through the ranks fighting for a place, he probably wouldn't get a look in. Unfortunately the current state of the team at the moment means he could get a spot. It's up to our current lads to be better tbh.

Daniel Smith
I believe he had dual Norwegian-Polish citizenship. Should imagine Rory is the same. Lives in Coventry, married with his children being schooled here also. He never has VISA issues like the other Aussies so I'd imagine he has UK citizenship
SCB
You can race for another country in individual competitions with just their national licence, but I think you need to have a passport from the country you're racing for in team competitions. Rory rode in the NL when he was 16 and started PL on a 3 point average, so there must be a long lost Scottish granny in there somewhere! The late Matej Ferjan rode for Hungary in the SWC a few years back, don't think he had a Hungarian passport but could be wrong. Matej did have a Hungarian passport in the end. I was against Holta doing it so I'd have to say I wasn't totally happy with it personally. That said, he did benefit from out junior system so dos owe us and he has always put British Speedway first. I do like his rant on twitter about "our country" though when he's talking about the UK! SCB
Hmmmm. Interesting. What criteria would he need to fulfil to get UK citizenship? He reads the Daily Mail, moans about immigrants and goes on holiday to Benidorm and doesn't speak a word of Spanish without realing how wonderfully ironic it is. Phlipphlopp
To be fair , as much as i like Rory he's no world beater and not going to improve so not sure how it will benefit team England/GB/call it what you want. I think in all sports , cricket in particular , all this nationality mullarky should have concrete rules and standards. It farcical at the moment. He reads the Daily Mail, moans about immigrants and goes on holiday to Benidorm Two out of 3 aint bad in my case

Patriality only gives you right of abode, not citizenship, although it's relatively easy to get once you've stayed 4(?) years.

Humphrey Appleby
I think in all sports , cricket in particular , all this nationality mullarky should have concrete rules and standards. Rules are already pretty concrete in cricket, and there are qualification periods if you want to change nationality. A lot of the Saffers in the England team qualified for British passports through parentage, and in some cases even spent their formative years in England. We should be encouraged that players want to play for England, and if they legitimately qualify for British citizenship, then I can't see what other qualification process you can put in place. Maybe the ability to drink 10 pints of warm beer a night...?

Two out of 3 aint bad in my case Get him in the team and have SWC Final at Swindon it goes to a 4 way dead heat so a run off to decide RooBoy gives Darcy Ward who surprisingly makes a lightening gate Dirty Nicki and Jarek Hampel a headstart on the last lap he bounces of the fence on the exit of the 2nd bend dives in Peter Carr style under JH and DW and bravely goes round DNP to win TeamGB the SWC
Steve Shovlar
Think its a no brainer. He is an Aussie full stop. The closest he should get to team GB is either on the other side of the pits or in the grandstand.
