But at least I got to see a decent live meeting beforehand - British Youth Champs at Leicester was an excellent meeting
f-s-p
GP on Finnish TV is better than Eurosport. I know. Spoke to a few of THE people last night (literally). It seems this was a classic case of not listening to the local track people on how to maintain the track. This does not explain the shape and width of the track (for which there are reasons) but it explains at least half of the ruts that appeared. From watching the TV I noticed that Jarno Kosonen himself was shovelling the ruts at some point on the track. So everyone made an effort to make it better! The miscounting of laps was unfortunate. Made by "brought/bought for purpose" people that have nothing to do with everyday Finnish speedway. Until maybe next year for the second staging of FIM Finnish Speedway Grand Prix... I know someone on BSF recognised them, I didn't and dont really care. Though it probably was the first ever of it's kind in SGP.
Aaron Reuben Smith
Would have thought Iversen would have picked up a few more points but even he would admit he isn't the best gater. I'm still trying to work out how this track got approval!! I think the only two positives were no one getting injured and Woofy getting back to form
salty
The miscounting of laps was unfortunate. Made by "brought/bought for purpose" people that have nothing to do with everyday Finnish speedway. According to this weeks Speedway Star, Heather McNeilly said she was phoned by Jarno Kosonen back in February and asked to do the meeting. Her family are long time friends of Jarno's apparently. g13webb
GP on Finnish TV is better than Eurosport. Was the shape of the track better, Was there overtaking in most races. It obviously wasn't a gate and go exercise, where the first man out always won, regardless of what part of the track he used. If so, next time we will have to get Finnish TV. Seriously though, that was really bad. As the Showpiece of our sport, the top production for attracting new fans, this was a disgrace and done more harm to the ordinary people's perception of speedway than not having a showpiece at all.

bigcatdiary
You'd think by now, they would have worked out how to size/shape and prep a track. Two terrible meetings in one week, one from King's Lynn and now this. That thought crossed my mind as well, and for those thinking it cannot get worse we have Lakeside tomorrow apparently sponsored by Dulux Paint Dry Productions. PHILIPRISING
THERE is no way I would try to sugar coat the pill regarding the track at Tampere on Saturday and most, though not all, of the comments here are justified but let's not forget that NO ONE deliberately goes out of their way to produce a crap race-track. Incompetent maybe but not saboteurs.
Humphrey Appleby
Incompetent maybe but not saboteurs. And who was responsible for doing the track, and how long have they been doing it?
macinter
As others have said on here the racing was awful but with the added cock up of having Eurosport switch off just as the riders were getting ready for the final makes speedway look more amateurish than Ed Miliband. No wonder the Press can't be bothered with this rubbish.
mothorsen
What a boring meeting. My mind drifted of many times, and I had to rewind the recording (alhtough I don't know now why I even bothered).

PHILIPRISING
And who was responsible for doing the track, and how long have they been doing it? THE track was laid last November by the local promoters under the supervision of Ole Olsen. They didn't have a completely blank piece of paper given that the stadium has many other uses and the speedway track went down on the athletics circuit. But I certainly wouldn't deny that the overall shape was wrong... corners too narrow for such long straights. The actual surface was better for Friday practice (no surprise there) which took place after persistent rain (natural watering) until early afternoon. They brought in a huge beast of a water-tanker on Saturday and its sheer weight may have been counter-productive in packing down the surface and contributing to the ruts that appeared late on. Was it a complete failure Phil? or can we learn from it and move on i for one don't want to see meeting's be a failure it happens now and again it always will. PHILIPRISING
OF course they can and will learn from it but there can be no denying that it will be much harder to get people to return next year. I always make the analogue with a restaurant ... serve a poor meal and the customers will take a lot of convincing to return. But in just about every other respect, Tampere was a splendid place to hold a SGP
