A ORLOV
Boring meeting, no overtaking after the first bend and the track cost me a lot on Beat the Bookie Comp.
PHILIPRISING
JUST got back to hotel so haven't had time to read through all the comments here ... But, for the record, crowd was just over 12,000 which still left around 4,500 seats vacant. All the propaganda about a full-house came from the local promoters and not BSI who actually warned them about making such statements before race-day. The meeting was awful but, again, the track was the responsibility of the promoters. To their credit they recognise that the shape certainly wasn't conducive to racing and that next year they will take out and widen the corners. Time for a beer and a burger ... back later Edited May 17, 2014 by PHILIPRISING
Jacques
Boring meeting, no overtaking after the first bend and the track cost me a lot on Beat the Bookie Comp. It beat me in the comp I run on Facebook.. god damn it. Did you go for PUK by any chance? The silver lining was the little E/W on Freddie
JT
Not that the BSI Propaganda Ministry will admit it, but surely that meeting has to go down as an epic failure? Rows and rows of empty seats, a dreadful, borderline dangerous circuit, and a number of high profile riders publicly venting their anger on TV and Twitter.JT. f-s-p
f-s-p has already stated that there is a basketball game on tonight somewhere in Finland........so that is where the missing thousands are You äärschloss... LOLTop game indeed. Dont know the attendance of that yet. Gp week is now over and having a beer on my way back to Tampere. There was some propaganda to get people to buy their tickets before hand. Fell for it myself for my own valid reasons. Not by BSI though! The info given to me is that the crowd was around 10700. Thats two times what we had for all the track racing meetings last year. Close anyways... Its been extremely interesting weekend so far. Lots of REALLY interesting stuff happening. = ) Okay, the meeting was crap and some riders told it live on air. But for example my local paper Aamulehti which is the second biggest in Finland (last time I checked) has had speedway stories throughout the week. With pictures even!! The last time they did their own stories on speedway was 2008, and then it was about moaning. These have been positive. Big story on Kylmä in yesterdays Iltalehti as well, last time they mentioned speedway was when Rico died or when Timo Villanen was paralyzed. I really do hope this all will help us. Even though the actual GP did not live up to the expectations. Mine either.

He's already been on here blaming it on the 'local promoter' when at the end of the day the whole thing is BSI's baby, they hold the rights, they are responsible! Just lucky that no rider got badly hurt!! Edited May 17, 2014 by Trees
bigcatdiary
Dreadful GP which is a shame after the first 2 this year. Just pleased no one else got badly hurt but it's a miracle, needs serious work for next year.
oldtimer
The track has a 3 year contract, but will anybody return next year? Olle Olsen laid the track, say no more, the guy has done his best to ruin GP speedway for a long time.
Mr Blobby
that was awful! the meeting dragged on forever the racing was crap, the track shape was crap. Basically from the gate unless you made a mistake. Funnily enough though Harris had his best GP on a gaiters paradise.

Rob B
I posted when the first photos were online of the track in December that it was far too narrow entering and exiting bends for the size of the track. As it is on top of an athletics track it was always going to be similar to Berlin & Gothenburg, can't see how they are going to be able to do much about it.
iris123
4557. So thats exactly where they where... NOT really though. Taking into account there was almost as many at the embroidary exhibition at the Womens Institute and the Mosquito killing competition then the place would have been packed and people locked out if they didn't clash. Then again if Finland had have had a game today in the world Ice Hockey championships then the gate would have been about 1,257!!!!

f-s-p
Interesting note though from a friend. As every spectator was actually scanned to get in, its not unlikely that 12k was paid and only 10,6k appeared?? Now for another one...
New Science
5pm in Britain if that's what you are asking. Two hours ahead here in Finland. Light rain and chilly so far today but the forecast is that it should clear around 15.00. Practice is at 17.00. Weather for tomorrow should be fine. Word is that all tickets will have gone today and that they are looking to squeeze a few more in! The tented pit lane is behind the home straight grandstand. Hotel just walking distance away. Excellent facilities for fans, riders and the media. Finnish TV showing the SGP live ... normally it goes out the following week. The track went down on top of the athletics circuit last November but will have to come out within five days. The material will be stored (no snide remarks please) ready for 2015. I should check your source on the ticket sales Phil, more spin than Shane Warne Edited May 17, 2014 by New Science
Gavan
Poor poor meeting only helped by my £5 ew on Zagar and £5 ew on Lindgren. Darcy summed himself up.....you need to gate! cant win world titles Darcy by being third or last every time you get to the first corner on whatever track
Starman2006
HAD a txt from Tony Briggs (younger son of Barry who is now part of the BSI team at SGP events) saying how dazzled he is by the stadium in Tampere. Tony is helping to install one of his air-fences in readiness for Friday's practice and added that advance ticket sales now over 9,000 so doesn't look as we will get a repeat of Bydgoszcz and a poorly populated stadium. Didn't look like there was 9,000 ther to me Phil..
New Science
BSI and their apologists never admit to doing the slightest thing wrong. It's always "outside forces" at work. You called it before it happened mate ! When we we get a good temporary track Ole Olsen is lauded as the best in the business when its awful its always nothing to do with us blame the locals !
