Guest
The Media has given massive coverage to the Curling events at the Winter Olympics. Far more than it ever dead to, for example, Tai Woffinden's Grand Prix success in 2013. There is BBC talk of it even being a 'take off' sport in the UK from now onwards. If that happens, will it draw people away from the attractions (!!) that speedway currently offers? If so, what then are the BSPA and those involved in popularising speedway doing to match the attraction (?) offered by Curling?
Popular Post BritPete
Given the current dire state of British speedway, dwarf throwing would be a threat!
racers and royals
The promoters have been skating on thin ice for the last few years-this could be the final straw.

I can't work out whether you're trying to be ironic and funny or taking a ridiculously cheap shot at the running of British speedway which even it doesn't deserve despite the daft ways in which it's often run. Â Either way, you've served up one of the most pathetic posts I've ever read on this forum. the late comedienne Linda Smith called it 'housework on ice' A fine description by a much-missed lady although maybe still 2nd-best to Terry Wogan's "formation drowning" at the Barcelona Olympics that seriously infuriated the British synchronized swimming team !!

Of course it was very much tongue-in-the-cheek and designed to show, sadly, just how low the Media places speedway in its coverage.

Al Stewart
 I am surprised that you bit the bait! Or is that angling? Of course it was very much tongue-in-the-cheek and designed to show, sadly, just how low the Media places speedway in its coverage. But for some reason, being in the Olympics has ensured that any sport in which Britain has a medal chance will be given massive publicity. Sports like curling are no doubt great fun for the participants, and tend to attract viewers who are not really sports fans on a regular basis.  Olympic sports also get the government subsidies - I think I heard £5m or was it £14m for curling? Speedway of course gets £0m.  If speedway was in the Olympics it would make a huge difference. It's not an olympic-type sport, and in any case these things are planned donkey's years in advance. However unsuitable, we should still be pushing for speedway's inclusion, anything is possible nowadays.
keepturningleft
Interestingly there are some similarities between speedway and speed skating. Â Â Â
van wolfswinkel
I have been watching curling for years, it goes on in loads of hairdressing shops all over Swindon, and I have been warned by the police many times. May gain more popularity especially north of the border. Should set up lots of curling rinks in the high crime, inner-city areas of Glasgow and Edinburgh, although there could be a risk they could use the equipment as weapons. You could compare speed-skating to that ice speedway they had at Telford.

Guest
Do you get a raise out of posting these "daft question" pieces of excrement, seemingly every week? It's because I need to feed the opinion of Posters like you! As I see it, anyone with half a brain would have realised it was a wind-up, done for a bit of fun. Although on a serious note it also shows how the mainstream media can ignore a mainstream sport like speedway and publicise something like Curling! By the way, watch where you are walking...! Curling is being included in the Scottish Nationality/Independence vote as all the Team GB members are Scottish and all the 'curling stones' are made in Scotland. Â If the vote is for Scotland to go their own way - then the rest of the country will probably never hear of curling again! A bit like speedway now I come to think of it!! The captain of the team made it in to the parlament, built a curling rink in Helsinki, and everyone was talking about curling. Even I attended a test session as a part of my batchelor party. It was good fun. Â 8 years on, curling is the same as it was 2005. In my eyes anyway, it gets the same publicity as before, the hype has died. Steve Shovlar
It's just bowls on ice and just because gb won a couple of medals it gets publicity on the bbc who are covering the event. Â Give it 3 months and it will die back to where it was 2 months ago. Â To be honest it looks like a sport where you could play it for a year and be pretty good at it. And if you are crap just hurl the thing down the ice and smash the rest out of the way. Â A game that's as thrilling as tiddly winks if the bbc covered tiddly winks. The whole nation gripped on the bbc as to whether pert Suzy Wilkins from Dunfermline manages to flick the last tiddly into the wink. She does and it's wall to wall coverage ,
