Coventry Stadium Sold

Recommended Posts

Speedway is safe for Three Years at least, plenty of time to find a new site!

I take it as this is posted by a Cradley fan, the 3 years being plenty of time, is tongue in cheek? However, not knowing the area, perhaps it is more likely a site will be found, compared to other locations. I hope so.

My understanding is that Brandon Stadium is a buffer between two local authorities and comes under Rugby Council. They have always been adamant that houses will not be built, otherwise they would be there already. The problem is that government offices overrule at times, and much will depend on the outcome of the next election.

So basically it's three years and a countdown to oblivion.

Sad to see our rivals in this situation and hope something can be done. Shame no fans could muster together a million quid if that's what it sold for.

I don't believe for one minute there's a bit of land out there to turn into a stadium. Hope I am wrong in thinking that.

Good luck with looking.

Good god, how out of touch are you.

As there is quite literally no defence, you simply resort to a childish post, sums it up.

The events of that close season, beginning from the moment Coventry won the play-offs are well documented. There were 2 distinct camps at the time amongst supporters, however it must be said that events SINCE that winter have seen many, many fans who were originally against the stance that Coventry/Peterboro took move towards them in the realisation they were right.

It's only the Poole fans and some stubborn folk who simply refuse to admit they were wrong (even though hypocritically they have been up in arms at some of the events since) that refuse to accept it.

Plenty of land around Coventry its just the usual issues that a new speedway stadium has which could hinder it. If I was Sandhu id ask the council for help, land around the Ricoh is available. The council were interested in building a test standard cricket stadium around the area a few years back.

Is that fact or opinion? How many is "many, many" and where is this documented in the public domain? To then position one camp as being right and everyone else a Poole fan, stubborn and wrong - you completely lose any argument!

It is a plight of our sport that developers seem to think only money money that they can make out of buying and building houses on our speedway stadiums.

It just goes to show that it is a hard struggle for any speedway operator to say that thier site is safe. We are losing to many sites to the money men. Just hope that the Bees can find a new site. In a place that can never be developed for housing or factories.

Some teams would find it very hard to come up with the cash to build a new stadium and get it up and running in a short time of three years. A lot of work for nothing if developers get thier eyes on the land and you are back to square one again.

Lets hope and pray for speedways sake they can manage to carry on.

Three years is enough to make a move happen, as shown on here I think the Bees have one of the strongest following in British speedway. Mr Sandhu has been looking to sell and I would imagine he hasn't waited till now to look at other sites for speedway and his other sport interests. He has always been good to us and he has given his word and that's encouragement enough for me.

Brandon is a shadow of what it once was, speedway is a shadow of what it once was.

So my head says a move is right as who in there right mind would try and refurbish Brandon, it's a big stadium needing more than a lick of paint. The days of packed out terraces are a thing of the past, just take a look on you tube!! My heart though says Brandon is our home, I have so so many happy memories of the place and the thought of leaving on that last night makes me feel sick already.

Lets hope for a memorable last 3 seasons and I hope we have a party of all party's for its very last speedway meeting with greats re-united to celebrate a very very special stadium to so many.

There are a number of people on this forum who were in one camp and over the course of the last couple of seasons have posted to say they were wrong.

I haven't seen one single person post about changing their minds the other way.

For a simple snapshot of the general opinion one only has to look at the number of 'likes' my initial post garnered, compared to yours presenting the opposite view.

You yourself were complaining last season about the way the sport is run and some of the events taking place, yet when somebody stood up against it, you lambast them.

3 years is nothing just ask cradley fans.

what is said is that they are going demolish the stadium despite the fact that planning regulations haven't changed.

they will sit on a pile of rubble into rugby council change the land.

then where to go? and who can afford the land?

rugby council will never agree to another site, too may well paid people the nearer its gets to rugby,so then you are left with north, south, west of coventry.

south will never happen, that's "true" Warwickshire, anywhere near Kenilworth dont think so! then its real Shakespeare land and anyway too close to m40, the land becomes expensive.

west?, meriden? again that's just not going to happen, so then you are left with North...

ie Bedworth area, just like the football club are looking. i honest just cant see a site being found, sorry to sound so depressed but Coventry is ringed with nimbies villages and lets be honest why should they?

one possible option ground share with the rugby club? but assuming the stox move that wont happen either way to loud.

i suspect the plan all along in saving Pboro is to expect us to migrate down the A14, and its just not going to happen.
