philfromcov
i suspect the y will knock it down and then sit on it and wait for the permission to change, expect that to happen winter 2014, this is how thee property world works. sandhu has to sell, therefore it stands to reason that all of the £1miilion wont be his?, what is left. i will enjoy this season, but think that will be it. only possible solution is the developers have to build a ground to get us out, but then guess what, they wont find the land either. whichever way you look at it it is game over im affraid
Dave Jones
I think it is best to just wait and see what happens to be honest. When SISU were sniffing around last summer Sandhu stated that he had received interest from three prospective parties and that two had subsequently dropped out because of the long term contracts for the existing franchises at the stadium. That suggests to me that any deal will include a provision for the speedway and stocks to continue until the contracts run out. (3 more seasons we are told). It's very understandable that fans are going to react to this latest news in their own way, it is very likely that the trips to Brandon are a way of life for many of them after so many years. I just hope that Sandhu comes good with a new venue, fingers crossed that the club can survive.
beerspanner
Stadium details on GVA website under planning permission rugby council have stated: officers may be willing to consider the redevelopment of the site, albeit providing that such proposals are acceptable in terms of development plan policy and other material considerations. Bruiser McHuge
could I ask a question? Would it be difficult to get planning permission while speedway and stocks are still running at the site?? I ask because a few years back some people bought a local pub in a small village, they wanted to knock it down and build houses on the land. If I remember correctly they were not allowed to do it straight away, they had to close the pub for a few years, then seek planning for houses, it was something to do with change of use on the land? Would this not also apply to Brandon? I've no idea, but Stuart Bamforth sold the Hyde Road site directly to British Car Auctions whilst the speedway was still active and they immediately knocked it down and built a car auction place on it straight away...so that was definitely an immediate change of use of the land.........not sure if it depends on each local council policies or not ? Ray Stadia
I know it wouldn't be Coventry, but perhaps a track at the Rockingham Raceway, could be a 'second best'? On the AA autoroute, Coventry to the raceway is 47 minutes, which isn't bad. Planning permission should be relatively easy.
SCB
just reading that Brandon is under rugby council, maybe people should email the Mayor of Rugby for his support to keep it a speedway venue as he is a former speedway rider and rode at Brandon for Coventry it says, just a thought. Thats about the best bit of news I've read on the whole thing so far. We need to start campaigning now and trying to get him on side. For those that dont know, Anthony (Tony) Gillias rode for Scunthorpe for 2 seasons in the 70s and had the odd outing for Coventry.

Like I said if fans are that concerned contact the current Rugby Mayor, he is an ex Coventry rider, must have some clout and Brandon falls under his area. ColinMills
Also, I found this link: www.rugbyconservatives.co.uk/person/councillor-tony-gillias thanks, he has no direct power, but its going to have to be conserted effort by all, from whatever club you follow., this is one stadium that needs to remain..(not that others dont matter), but this ground is historic, better facilities than most, lovely surroundings..lets hope this is one subject everyone on this forum can agree on..i would suggest we flood mr gillias, having ridden for the bees in the past, its one councillor we got on side to start with
Hawk127
I may have misunderstood matters but didn't certain people in speedway get a tie in to a parliamentary group. Would it be worth getting them on side?. After all speedway has some history in this situation with Reading and others where the profiteering party has promised so much but failed to deliver. Surely if it possible for the local authority in Swindon to make a provision on a planning application then it is time these parliamentarians got behind speedway and did the same for Coventry.

They did, the groups secretary is Rugby MP Mark Pawsey. it can only help that even before this news that Rugby council had a member of the group and has a mayor who has raced speedway - for Coventry. To me these are far great positives than the "3 years left" that some people are getting excited over as I believe the clubs best hope is to prevent redevelopment - speedway clubs just don't move - Look at BV, how many years has this move taken? 4 and they're still not in! Brandon
Rolls royce at Ansty is a stones throw away, it's currently being demolished. Ideal location to build a small stadium without noise restrictions?
philfromcov
i wouldn't count on politicians, there is an election coming, watch them run a mile from this hot potato! the ansty site will be for expanding the business park, too close the the motorway making it expensive. speedybee
Surely Ryton area worth exploring, good for motorway connections, A45/M6, just down the road from Brandon, less residential property around, brown field sites..

I would imagine as a speedway fan he is fully aware and doesn't need hundreds of fans bombarding him in the same way a non-speedway riding/supporting MP would. Thats kind of why is such a big deal, he will care anyway,
