The White Knight
Don't think I like you anymore, TWK. Joke ok, check my avatar and nickname . A tad before my time but I've heard the Auffret / Childs / Millen battles were legendary . I guess our opinion of riders depends on whether riders ride for or against us and I can well imagine opposition fans being frustrated over the antics of Mauger, Childs, Nicki P, etc. But they are all riders you would definately riding for and not against you. To be honest I respect all riders, they all take the same risks riding the same tracks, albeit for different reasons, and all have their unique way of tackling the sport and it would be so boring if we all liked the same riders / teams..... Well said Martin - I agree - our Speedway 'lives' were definitely enriched by most of the Riders mentioned on this Thread. :approve: I always liked Reg Wilson though. iris123
I guess our opinion of riders depends on whether riders ride for or against us Not me.As already stated i didn't take to a number of riders who rode for my team.Might be though that for me at least they were associated with other teams by the time they rode for the Dons. But just because they signed for my team didn't make me "take to them" anymore than i had before...... vog
Eh? What did he do to Stoke fans? Guested for us one meeting. Turned up with 2 engines, both of which were there for testing. Scored 2 points, rode like he didn't care and we lost. I have no respect for a rider who does that to a team.
Halifaxtiger
Ben Barker, needs to get his head down and perform rather than talk about it. To be fair, you're anything but the only one who has named Barker. Its a view, however, that I do not understand. I have never seen him give anything less than 100% on the track for anyone he has ridden for, be that in his NL days or for team GB. He's an amazingly unselfish team man who has pulled off some of the best team rides I have seen in the past few years. I have even seen him repair the fence at Plymouth during a meeting. I have never spoken to him myself but I am told that he is always approachable and does not forget who pays his wages. I am wondering just what there is to dislike. Ricky Wells certainly falls into this category. As far as I was concerned, he held Sheffield together last season with a string of consistent performances yet he never quite seemed to get the credit he deserved from their fans. Red Panda
Riders never taken to.......... phillipsr
Generally I don't think anyone who has selected Greg Hancock for this 'honour' has said much BAD about him. That's just the point. He inspires my apathy. There he's been in every single GP, has had a good chance of winning many, and has done a fair few. But not once have I been moved to cheer him on. But neither have I booed. When he's won, I've just been flat. There just seems to be nothing there to take to. And the the very fact that some others think he is so wonderful just makes it that little more obvious that I don't! . 100% agree with this. Greg seems a nice bloke just i have no feeling at all towards him i neither want to cheer or boo i just dont really care Some are misunderstanding the thread it wasnt about hate or anything like that just which riders did you never take to. I agree villians are great for the sport and these villians raise an emotion.

Michael Lee Martin Goodwin Ben Barker Nick Morris Eddie Kennett Travis McGowan Jason Doyle Troy Batchelor Andreas Jonsson Andy Campbell Sean Willmott And that is just for starters........ RP Thank the lord someone has a list as long as mine. Some general hatred, some with reasons, here are mine. Jason Lyons - injured my favourite rider Todd Wiltshire when i was just starting out in the sport. My grudge lasts to this day! Sam Ermolenko - knocked me over with his in the car park at Brandon before something like the british or overseas Final in the 90s Nicki Pedersen Carl Stonehewer Bobby Ott - i dunno why, he just annoyed me Kelvin f*ckin Tatum - looked arrogant the first time i saw him and that was enough for me!. Oddly enough, had many funny nights out with him since, but he knows i despised him as a rider. See my picture obviously. Jimmy Nilsen - his eyes were weird. Crump. Ben Barker. Tony Rickardsson. Bunyan Dave Watt Andrew Silver

He gets more upset than any fan when he has a bad ride, always give his all. For me hes what speedway is about. Off track I've always found him decent enough if a little outspoken. A ORLOV
Halifaxtiger/SCB I know Ben is passionate about riding and I have also had general conversations with him, but both on sky and in the pits he talks about what he is going to do but then often does not do it. This is why I have never taken to him. I hope he can increase his average and is able to become a rider that the GB manager would often pick. I then might change my mind.
weatherwatcher
I just don't like the way that Darcy Ward rides. Not a lot of skill level but a great deal of speed. With no consideration to any other riders on the track. His control over the bike is practcally non existant. Giving it far to much thottle and the bike goes onto the back wheel and at times into other riders. I just wished now after the years he has raced at Poole and around the world he would by now have started to use his brain, if he actually has one. If he can't slow it down then at least learn to control the bike a bit more. He would then be a great rider.

I think the problem with Ricky is that he never ever looked like he wanted to be at Sheffield. Rarely smiled and when he won a race his celebratory lap he look anywhere but in the fans way. At Sheffield we were used to our American riders that charisma who smiled and engaged with the fans. Ricky Wells had the charisma more akin to Charlie Monk. Vince
I really don't like Darcy Ward but he is one of, if not the, most naturally talented and skilled riders I have ever seen. Ole Olsen was my pet hate as a kid after he nearly took my arm off slamming his car door when I tried to get his autograph. I was a kid so the fact he had just had a terrible World final was no excuse in my eyes, nowadays I think he deserved a bit of slack :-)

The White Knight
Don't get Ward's Speedway ability get mixed up with his 'off Track' activities. I'm with Vince on this - I am not keen on him - BUT - he is an awesome Speedway Rider.

packerman
Nicki Pedersen, fences people for fun, but moans if anyone does the same to him. Too true Proud Panther. Heaven help the rider that dared tocharge under Nikki as he feels that it is only fair when he does it. Of course you were going through the gap as you had NO intention of turning without hitting the other rider.
packerman
As you can tell from above I've never to Nicki P and you can add to that list Todd Wiltshire a bit of a gating tart but I respected his return from a seriuos injury Martin Goodwin Andrew Silver Flyin Ryan Sullivan just didn't take to him even tho he rode for Poole Hans Nielsen more than likely he was just better than any Pirate in the mid 80's except Micheal Lee Eddie Kennett had the skill just seemed not to bother/try Bjarne Pedersen A great servant to Poole but at times just seemed to let others go by without any effort at defending his line
