MrMungo
Whilst he was riding, I really could not hack Hans Nielsen at all. Especially after he had the audacity to pass Ray Morton on the final bend in one heat. Now I enjoy seeing him on the "old" Youtube videos. I've come to appreciate just how exceptional he was. Back in the day, I just I must've got annoyed at how good he was! I can't believe there's been so many mentions about Greg Hancock supposedly being boring and none about Shaun Tracey! What's that all about?
SCB
I can't believe there's been so many mentions about Greg Hancock supposedly being boring and none about Shaun Tracey! What's that all about? Because we're not constantly told Shaun Tacey is a nice guy and how everyone loved him.

Guest
Dave Jessup, who had always ridden well at a Plough Lane, then signed for us in 1982 and had a shocker! He always used to muck around with his bikes and had too many ef's for my liking. Gordon Kennett was another ex-world number 2 who was past his best when he joined the Dons in 1984. So much so that he went from an 8 point header to 6 point second string in the space of as season. To rub salt in the wound, Kennett was nigh on unbeatable around Pough Lane when Eastbourne came to town in the years that followed! I didn't think much of Cyril Maidment either. Nice chap but awful team manager.

cyclone
Thanks, you gave me the best laugh I've had in ages. Most people talk with their mouth. Obviously you don't
Bellers101
Gary Havelock Never liked him, and liked him even less after he defecated on Stoke fans from a great height. Sooner he is gone from the sport completely the better Eh? What did he do to Stoke fans?
Mr Blobby
Martin Smolinski! not particular reason just don't like him Lewis Bridger due to the fact that he cares more about how high he can get his foot of the foot peg than were he is in the race. could be last but as long as his style looks good he doesn't care
BritPete
I like Hancock too. He must be the best rider ever for his age.
Grand Central
Generally I don't think anyone who has selected Greg Hancock for this 'honour' has said much BAD about him. That's just the point. He inspires my apathy. There he's been in every single GP, has had a good chance of winning many, and has done a fair few. But not once have I been moved to cheer him on. But neither have I booed. When he's won, I've just been flat. There just seems to be nothing there to take to. And the the very fact that some others think he is so wonderful just makes it that little more obvious that I don't! . piston197
As a rider or a manager? Nicky Mallet, ( as a rider of sorts and a promoter of sorts) never amounted to much as either
Trees
Yeah def Jessup, Olsen, Bjarne Pedersen, Mauger, Hampel ..... Loads of them that I'm or I've felt totally indifferent about.
teddy2706
Gosh, so much spite and venom! This really is an unpleasant thread! There are too many riders listed to defend them all, but disliking someone because they have always done well at your home track is a bit serious isn't it? Ivan Mauger? Probably the best rider ever seen. Dave Jessup "mucking about with his bike too much" seems to have stood him in good stead as a tuner and machine examiner doesn't it? Gordon Kennett? Never saw him have a bad race, smooth, fast and fair. Chris Morton? Wonderful racer every time I saw him. Michael Lee, well, I did dislike Mike for the amount of meetings I paid to watch him at, only to find he was lounging about at home. However, anyone who has seen his input in Mildenhall pits with young riders, racing out on the track, checking its condition, then running back to help lads with their set up surely cannot dislike him for that, so much effort, so much commitment. Kenny Carter? Never, ever saw him try less than his best. Kelvin Mullarkey? hated at Long Eaton, but only because he raced his guts out every race, every meeting, every season 110%, brilliant value for money. Moggo? Don't ever criticise him in public in Stoke unless you fancy being horsewhipped,he is held in the highest regard there. Evitts? Another hard rider who never knew when he was beaten, who knew what was going to happen if he was riding? Simmo? Had the ability to beat almost everyone in the world on his day. Maybe you dislike the above riders, but speedway has been richer for everyone of them!

If we didn't have the Riders we could 'hate', the Sport would have been a lot poorer and a lot less entertaining.

Well a couple of those riders were in my list. But if you are including me in your attack you are wrong, because i never did and don't know dislike them.I just,as it states in the title "never took to them" .So in essence it isn't an unpleasant thread at all, just some people have got the wrong end of the stick and gone off on a tangent
martinmauger
I never liked Frank Aufrett or Tony Childs - but their battles with Jack Millen were epic. Great days. :approve: Don't think I like you anymore, TWK. Joke ok, check my avatar and nickname . A tad before my time but I've heard the Auffret / Childs / Millen battles were legendary . I guess our opinion of riders depends on whether riders ride for or against us and I can well imagine opposition fans being frustrated over the antics of Mauger, Childs, Nicki P, etc. But they are all riders you would definately riding for and not against you. To be honest I respect all riders, they all take the same risks riding the same tracks, albeit for different reasons, and all have their unique way of tackling the sport and it would be so boring if we all liked the same riders / teams.....
