Which Rider Have You Never Taken To?

Recommended Posts

After some discussion on another thread thought id start one on which riders you just never took to. For me its Greg Hancock now im not for one second doubting how good a rider he is just never felt compelled to watch him race and dont find him as exciting as an Emil / Darcy

Ivan Mauger.

Probably one of the very best Speedway Riders to grace our Tracks in this Country. I admired him greatly, but I didn't really like him (not on a personal level, I didn't know him) but as a Rider there was always something about him that put me off. Perhaps it was his shenanigans at the Tapes which I regarded as not being fair on other Riders.

I never felt the same about Mauger as I did Peter Collins or Barry Briggs.

Jason (G)Crump - a great racer and one of the most consistent of all time at world level but always seemed miserable to me.

Are we just restricted to one? I've got a list.

Ole Olsen. Hated him when I used to support Leicester.

Brian Andersen. I've never forgiven him for not shutting off and letting Shaun Tacey get a maximum when they were on a 5-1 in his last ride.

Hans Andersen. Just never really liked him and he's always rolling at the tapes. However, this opinion is subject to change now he's a Coventry rider.

Gary Havelock. Never liked him either and the feeling hasn't changed even though he is supposed to be connected to the Bees now. I can't understand a word he says either so the riders he is managing must be cleverer than me.

Nicki Pedersen. Well, he's just crackers and doesn't care what he does on the track as long as he wins. He hit the jackpot one night at Brandon by taking not just one, but two Coventry riders off in one swoop.

There's more riders on my 'hate' list but I'd better stop now.

I 'Liked' your Post Gemini - not for the Riders you picked (I disagree with some of them) - but - the way you phrased it. :t:

EXCELLENT!!! :t::approve: :approve:

I don't hate any of the riders, i admire them greatly for having the guts to ride a speedway bike.Riders i have not been overly keen on were Preben Eriksen,Tim Hunt,Nicki Pedersen to name a few.

I thread isn't about hate. It's about rider's you just couldn't connect with. It's a very different meaning

Andy campbell - replaced larry ross, my all time favourite rider, as aces number one in 1985 and promptly dropped about two and a half points off his average, finishing the season at reserve.

Richard knight - no idea why. Possibly due to him being in the 85 wtc squad indtesd of mort pc or sndy smith.

Steve gresham - I think he had a punch up in the pits the first time I saw him. Along with schwartz one of the few americans I didn't like.

Mark lemon always leaves a sour taste for me,

And any rider who does a "stonehewer" and drops it on the first bend and lies there hoping to get a re-start

must admit that the sport needs riders like Niki Pedersen, because like them or hate them, they are giving 100% and providing opinions and interest, although I don't necessarily agree with the way it is done

Bobby Ott, loved watching him ride, great style and showman, but for me that was spoiled pre meeting at kings lynn one night. Bobby sitting alongside his bike and Promoter Buster Chapman bought a little kid into the pits who was clearly a Bobby Ott fan. Armed with pen and programme ready for an autograph he was introduced by Buster. Bobby's response was to scream and that he didn't see anyone and get the kid away from him. The look on the face of the youngster was awful. Maybe that was Bobby Ott being himself or maybe he was caught at a bad time who knows but it left a sour taste for those looking on. Couldn't look at him in the same light again

Ivan mauger. When i was a kid i hated him for his antics at the tapes. But i changed my opinion of him in 1985 when thanks to cyril maidment, i went on his farewell tour to poland with all of the riders and ivan's family. He could not have been more nicer to me and it made me feel guilty about booing him all those years ago!

Ivan Mauger would have won nothing under todays tape starting rules...The master of movement at the start...

Bollocks.. he would have practiced harder than anyone and mastered the starts under whatever rules.

I remember erik gundersen dropped over a point and a half off his average the yesr the tspe touching rule csme in. The following seadon he had adapted and aversged 11.

Perhaps wrong to speak ill about the dead, but it has to be the late Kenny Carter. Watching him race, he had no regard for fellow riders and engaged in truly dangerous moves, often going for "gaps" which didn't exist.
