Criteria For Testimonials Etc

Recommended Posts

I don`t have a problem with Havvy having any ammount of testimonials he can have a dozen for me but to expect ALL British Speedway to come to a halt for a meeting brought together between Matt Ford and Gary Havelock is a bit much. If Gary is as popular as he thinks he is there won`t be a problem everybody will be at Poole but I very much doubt it.....

Sorry to say it, but i think Matt is your beef... I still think Havvy is entitled to it, and i still think all those riders the were invited to Havvys bash should still attend. If Sky have a problem with that then THEY, should find another date for the ELC.

You're missing the whole point completely.

This has nothing to do with Havvy, Matt Ford or Poole speedway. The hatred blinkers need to be removed and see what's going on here.

Brief overview:-

Havvy's meeting has been in the planning since 2012.

Havvy decided early 2013 it will be at Poole

September 2013 the date was set for 21st March 2014

Riders and supporter's have flight's / hotels / holidays booked for this date

BSPA set ERC for Sunday 23rd March

At this point nobody has any issue

Wednesday 29th January the BSPA announce a 5 year deal with Sky and the whole World jump for joy

Just a couple of hours later Havvy Tweet's his disappointing news that the BSPA requests his meeting cancelled because they're running the ERC on the same day

A day later BSPA confirm it and on Friday send out another press release saying they will be working with Havvy & Poole to find an alternative date. Not even allowing the option of running on the same day.

The organisation of Havvy's meeting has gone to far to make the changes. If this meeting gets pushed later into the season The rider HE want won't be available and a PL / NL line up is all that's likely and that isn't fair

Yet, you still say there is no issue???

People just need to curb their clear hatred and think if this was one of their favourite club legends being miss treated.

This is clear BSPA bullyboy mafia style tactics and people really shouldn't stand for it

You live in a fantasy world, who are these riders / fans who have booked flights , hotels etc. Its the middle of winter I doubt any fans or riders have pre booked any of these. the chances of it being on are very remote. get real....The Hotels in Poole will be empty its freezing there.

Still dont understand the big problem with having two meetings the same day. It happens all the time throughout the year. There are enough speedway fans to go to both.

Not really a farewell anyway as Gary will be seen in speedway weekly with the bees and has already had a testimonial.

Stead had his testimonial same day as league meetings and never once moaned. There was a good turn out still.

I agree. Think Havelock's twitter rants at the bspa have done him alot of good as without them not sure many people would have been going

Of course your going to say that. you being a Coventry fan Havvy holding his meeting at Poole. Nothing like backing your own Manager.. Well, if Havvy comes up Trumps, excuse the pun, next season and you do well, what are you going to say then?? I;l tell you, fickle would be my answer. Enjoy the ELC.. You might have a handful of Coventry fans there!!

AFAIK that is true. I cant think of the last rider to have a 20 year testimonial though.

Answering my own question, it was James Grieves. He had a 10 year meeting in 2000 and a 20 year meetingin 2010. Does make me wonder why he's bellyaching about a farewell, rider are only allowed two benefit meetings.

Wether you feel he should have his meeting or not its quite simply the fact that its on a Friday night(after work for most people) and down at Poole (not the best choice for most fans due to location) makes it an awkward meeting to attend. Money talks though

Havelock deserves a farewell meeting, I dont think anyone can argue that. Injuries have ended his riding career.

These events are granted but at the end of the day, if you feel a rider is undeserving - don't attend.

Its not about deserved or not its not the point i was trying to make. If it was closer to home for me and not on a Friday night i would have attended just for the occasion and class of rider.

Why it couldnt have been on a Sunday afternoon or Saturday evening is beyond me. He would have had a much bigger attendence thats for sure

Neil Collins had a testimonial in his first season at Somerset, in 2002 - Can't remember if that was 20 years or 25 years now.

Luke Bowen has a testimonial this season and he actually deserves it. He has been a Rye House rider his whole career.

I'm sorry if anyone disagrees but it is pathetic that the likes of Kasprzak and Risager get benefit meetings. Kasprzak is pretty much the polar opposite of a rider that a testimonial should be awarded to and Risager is no more than an average overseas journeyman, what separates him from the rest of the overseas journeymen who haven't had a testimonial?

I can't think of the last rider before Bowen this season that has had a testimonial they have actually deserved for continued service to a single club.

Lindgren probably.

If a rider has been continuously frozen out by the points limit then that's fair enough but journeymen who go from club to club and disappoint year on year shouldn't really be getting testimonials.

I agree about Luke and there is something seriously wrong with a system that rewards Kasprzak for his services to British Speedway!
