stratton
interesting clip if can get you tube john davis documentary 1982I see it Colin if it was the one i have seen with his Dad Harry he was great to watch. My memories of the 1982 British Final is mixed was gutted Malc Holloway got through his semi at Birmingham but was poor on the day remember WIggy did well as a NL. Representative Lee got eliminated which was a massive shock.

Parsloes 1928 nearly
Ivan actually won SIX World titles (though 'only' five in the period discussed I suppose!)!!! But PC was a peerless racer and the only rider who could (almost) match him in that regard as a pure racer was Olsen, in my book. Can I point out that the Kennett I have in 7th. spot is not Barney (!) nor White City Rebels League winner from 1977 (and Dad of my modern-day favourite, Eddie), Dave but the great Gordon, of course!!! He on that day was brilliant for a England 75 was his year was very good indeed the bloke was a quiet guy a very good team man but he really was a excellent rider certainly world class at the Abbey he used to sneak on through on the line. Guest
As for Ivan's world titles, I took it as given that we were only counting those during the period in question! His first one at Wembley in 1968 (out of scope here) setting him on the way for his unique (for one-off finals) hat-trick and a gold plated bike. Â It's fair to say that Mauger won most of his races from the gate, but no doubt added hundreds to the crowd when in town. Am a big fan of PC as well mind you. Mauger and Rickardsson have the best records no doubt about it,but for me both are not in the best 2 of all time.Certainly i know it is a subjective issue but god it is very difficult to choose between the greats of the past. Spoke to him a few weeks ago at his Marlboro' motor-cycle workshop business. Modest quiet guy. Briggo once said he was the best rider in the world at one time but didn't believe in himself enough. Prodons Mauger did have a aura about him,but a thing that always stuck out for me his starting technique he never reared at the start a great gater Killer Kilby and Mauger are the best gaters i have ever seen. cityrebel
Looking at this as a wide eyed kid in the early 1970's. My top three are ronnie moore, tommy jansson and the king of custom house christer lofqvist!

cityrebel
Didn't he ride for Poole and Ackney also? Died from a brain tumour at an early age if I remember. Yes he did. Lofqvist was a very exciting rider. My first visit to west ham was his first meeting as a hammer. So i was won over at an early age!
