robinsgirl
That's great. Tai really deserves all that comes his way. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes it two in a row in the World Championship!
MattK
Should we really be surprised after the thread here on BSF encouraging voting for him? I'm sure there were threads on the equivalent WSB, BSB, TT etc forums. I think this proves, if we needed any further proof, that there is a genuine underlying interest in speedway, if only promoters made an effort tap into it.

It's bit early to be making predictions as to winners before the GPs 2014 have even started IMO. Edited February 28, 2014 by Guest

Oh well I haven't been bitten on the bum for a while!........although it matters not for my sake or not what happens, it's just that Tai seems to have an inner drive at the moment that sets him apart from the other riders in my opinion. You're right though - it is early to tell but Tai puts in the work, doesn't just talk about putting it in.
Guest
Bloody Hell, genuinely gob smacked- well done Tai. Speedways failure to engage with the biking community has always stuck in my craw. Or Speedway promoters please use this to get more bikers down to Speedway. The problem is how to initiate this suggestion?
manchesterpaul
Well done all who managed a simple quick click! and congrats to Tai. It wasn't even a close contest as Tai won by a landslide "The 23-year-old was up against a galaxy of two-wheeled stars from the road racing world, but bagged twice the number of votes notched by any of the other 13 shortlisted riders to become the first speedway winner in the poll’s 56-year history following his World title triumph last year." I wonder if the MCN will start giving more coverage to speedway??? They've always given it scant attention over the previous 56 years!

Will these boost their circulation by very much if they did? They would calculate on their current circulation, an estimate of speedway supporters nationwide, then what percentage would buy their publication on the surmise it would possibly only be interested in the highest calibre of the sport? But I suppose it's fingers crossed that the sport might get more Press coverage if MCN does give speedway some space in its columns.
SCB
Surely this proves that motorcycle fans at least appreciate speedway and have respect for it? Always said i thought chasing bikes was a waste of time as they tend to like bikes they can associate with but maybe thats not true at all? Daniel Smith
Surely this proves that motorcycle fans at least appreciate speedway and have respect for it? Always said i thought chasing bikes was a waste of time as they tend to like bikes they can associate with but maybe thats not true at all? I know quite a few biker's through work and they like and respect Speedway. A couple have had a go and said it's the hardest forum of 2 wheel racing. They watch speedway on TV but don't attend because there's nothing in it for them and I get why. It has nothing to do with the quality of stadia or quality of racing but the quality of social time and it's an evening sport. When you take in a BSB, WSBK or MotoGP these are events. Lasting whole weekends, you can go and watch Friday practice / qualifying for about £15 and it is for all day. Speedway's £15+ for 2 hours is seen as pointless and bikers just will not bother. The guys at work have actually been to more grasstrack meetings than speedway. It could be simply a day v night thing.
Oafski
Last night I hosted a quiz night at a Motorcycle Club but which I will not name and shame. When I posed the question "Who was the 2013 World Speedway Champion and has just been voted MCN Man of the year?" I was rewarded by eighteen blank stares, so it appears that the Sport's profile hasn't been raised despite the Lads considerable achieivements. I think a similar thing happened a while back on a BBC TV sports quiz programme. Edited February 28, 2014 by Guest
