Gemini
Phil Morris was on tv in a couple of quiz shows, definitely Eggheads and possibly 15 to 1 and he won a few pounds from his quiz exploits, He won a lot of pounds on 'Smarter than a 10 year old' which was on some obsure Sky channel I think. I watched the programme purely because Phil was on it. Load of rubbish really. I think I'm right in saying he won around £100,000? Mind you surely absolutely everyone would stand a chance against a ten year old, even me. ......lucifer sam.......The list is wrong. People - I'm one of them - remember Bruce Penhall being on it. EDIT: The Abbott, if you're so confident he wasn't in it, I'll bet you £1,000 that he was. Deal? All the best Rob Excuse me! Join the queue as I want first dibs on this one as I have the photos to prove I'm right. Edited January 29, 2014 by Gemini
John Leslie
He won a lot of pounds on 'Smarter than a 10 year old' which was on some obsure Sky channel I think. I watched the programme purely because Phil was on it. Load of rubbish really. I think I'm right in saying he won around £100,000? Mind you surely absolutely everyone would stand a chance against a ten year old, even me. Think he won £25,000 on "Smarter than a 10 year old". He went all the way through the questions to £25k but ducked out of the Jackpot question which would have given him £50k. He was on the daytime version with Dick and Dom which had lower money. If he'd got to the same stage on the evening version with Noel Edmonds he'd have won £100k with a chance to go for £250k if he'd attempted the jackpot question. Think he won about £60k on a Saturday night Chris Tarrant gameshow with coloured boxes. But that show was a flop and was binned after the few pilot episodes. Just found out it was called "The Colour of Money" and he won £63k http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Colour_of_Money_%28game_show%

Gemini
.......mickthemuppet.....They never got the answer last week either although Daphne knew on Eggheads that the Young Trophy was Speedway Don't want to disagree but I'm sure the question involved the Craven Shield not the Young Trophy. For some strange reason Chris sorted it out via Sheffield but I've forgotten what the connection was. Edited to put the quote in as we're now on another page. HenryW
Surprised that Jason Crump's appearance on QOS hasn't been bigged up more here as he proved to be one of the most generically knowledgeable panellists ever; answering questions on cricket, soccer, rugby union etc as well as recognising Greg "The Grin" Hancock in a cryptic photo round. Jason is well known for his knowledge of speedway's history but he showed up most major celebs who are applauded for knowing the most basic stuff about their own sport with his brilliance on a whole range. Totally eloquent too. I agree with those comments. He was a credit to our sport on QOS. I disliked Jason early in his career due to his typically Aussie attitude to competition. However, I mellowed on him over his career, probably because he mellowed as well and it's certainly fair to say that latterly he was a fantastic ambassador for the sport. As you said, he was eloquent and knowledgeable about his own and other sports... As an aside, I also have some vague memory of Bruce Penhall appearing on Superstars or something like it... Was it being filmed in the Oxford area in 1982? Was Dave Lanning unable to directly name the event because it was a BBC show? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQu_QI745w0

It wasn't clear from the early posts!! I'm never awake for the first showing of Q of S, whenever that is. Reading most of the rubbish on here really tires me out most nights!! Gemini
I used to never miss the show in my youth, back in the David Coleman era. As you say since Sue Barker took over it has become a scripted comedy show and I never watch now. Which is probably why people like me watch it instead so the ratings are still high. If it was purely about sport I wouldn't bother because I'm not interested but the extra bits of comedy and the 'charade' type questions keep me interested.......that and watching Tuffers .

I did a dream team on Speedway Plus a few years ago:- I would never class Crumpie, like his Dad before him, as one of my favourites, but I admire him in many ways. For his steely determination to succeed & achieve his goals, the way he has worked hard to curb his temper & channelled those energies into his racing, his absolute dedication to his chosen profession, his qualities as an ambassador for the sport & his undoubted qualities off track as a family man. I was delighted for him that he recently won his second world title as he has been so deserving of it & he would undoubtedly have won more had he raced in a different era, for in many ways he has been a little unlucky to be at the very top at the same time as Tony Rickardsson. spinkox
for in many ways he has been a little unlucky to be at the very top at the same time as Tony Rickardsson. What? better to be in the Ivan Mauger or Hans Neilsen period?? - (or Fundin or Briggs)
