RobMcCaffery
Eurosport have two live events tomorrow afternoon so TV coverage might have to wait for the evening slot allocated to highlights of the event plus last week's SEC. The Polish version of the ELRC is also scheduled for tomorrow so that's going to be affected. Edited August 16, 2014 by rmc
Ghostwalker
Some pics here: https://twitter.com/dmu_sport pics are taken yesterday. To me it looks like it rained so much that they even needed to pump the water away. @JamesFalcons, sure but the track condition is a result of the rain. It rained yesterday, it rained the day before yesterday and there are rain and like woz01 said, there are thunderstorms expected for the afternoon and evening: http://www.weather.com/weather/today/LGXX0004 As I said yesterday, no track without a roof would have managed to keep this in good condition. I'd rather see that they cancel it and move it to a dry track then stubbornly having the gp on a soaked track like the GP at Ullevi3-4 years ago where it started to rain before the GP started and continued to rain throughout the entire GP. PHILIPRISING
PUTTING my hands up to be shot at but... heavy rain here now (13.20 local time). Huge logistical hurdles being overcome to move the whole operation to Daugavpils. Five hours to de-rig TV stuff, then four hour drive... riders loading up and heading off ... frantic efforts to find accommodation and change flights ... chaos. But it was the right and only decision ninth end. Riders felt that the track was not fit for racing and that wouldn't change even if the weather was kind, which it isn't. Feel very sorry for Vladimir Ribniks the local promoter who has made such a huge effort to put Riga on the speedway map. Obviously there will be an inquest and maybe things could have been done better with the benefit of hindsight. But rider safety is paramount and that was the deciding factor. RobMcCaffery
Start time 1pm uk time tomorrow-can`t see that Eurosport will be able to show it live-Maybe Quest ? Quest is wide open - showing a complete run of 'Salvage Hunters' all day. That could just be a 'fix' for UK viewers since I'm unsure if Quest is carried in other European nations. pandorum
Nicki Pederson just tweeted its off until tomorrow and now being held in Daugavpils That's a bugger I was there last week and it was red hot and not a cloud in the sky. Never saw a single poster advertising the meeting though. Edited August 16, 2014 by pandorum
lucifer sam
Heads should roll... anyone employed doing that track should not be employed by BSI again. It's clearly not the weather that is the main factor: if it was, then the restaging would be in Riga tomorrow, not Daugavpils. All the best Rob

All the best Rob TRACK was the responsibility off the local promotion and subject to inspection by the FIM. They actually declined the offer of having Ole Olsen lend a hand .. Given the rain that was forecast, and has now materialised, it was deemed impossible to ensure that the track would be fit by tomorrow. Daugavpils the safer bet. Tsunami
Thanks r&r. Actually looks quite impressive tbf. Certainly looks like a nice wide track. Well, those "experts" have got this one spot on. Ouch! Which "experts" would those be. You yourself seemed pleased about what you saw, and things seemed to be in hand TILL the RAINS came. It happens, natural phenomenon, nobody's fault. What would 'your' experts have done differently and got this meeting on. Ouch.
Rob B
In what way has it been a disaster? What is wrong with the stadium? Judging from the pics I have seen the stadium look fine and why does it matter if there aren't any flood lights 1-2 weeks before the GP if they have been installed in time for the practice and actual race night? And why are you blaming the poor weather on the organizers? There is nothing they can do about it. If it rains allot on the day before and the day of the GP what are they supposed to do about it? No un-roofed track in the world would manage to stay unaffected by large amount of rains. If you remember last years at Cardiff, the track was in a very poor condition the day before the GP despite that the track have a roof. So the fact the GP is been cancelled and being moved is not a disaster? Yes they have had rain but the problem is the track was only laid a few weeks ago without inadequate drainage, no where enough time. BSI should have moved it to Daugvapils a couple of months ago when it was obvious then there was going to be problems.

I doubt any track could have coped with the amount of water that have fallen over Riga the last couple of days.
hagonshocker
A mere question and not an attempt to annoy the more snooty touchy members of this forum but what has/is/will the weather be like in Daugavpils?? And just to add not exactly going swimmingly well with the new venues this year is it?
