The White Knight
Yep gotcha! (remember that's my way of saying 10:4! ) 'Highway Patrol' - it doesn't get better.
Humphrey Appleby
Otherwise "curiosity" has no legal standing as such. Goodness, how strange that fans should be curious about various aspects of the sport. For matter, why should we wish to read the ins and outs of riders' lives in the Speedway Star? george.m
Goodness, how strange that fans should be curious about various aspects of the sport. For matter, why should we wish to read the ins and outs of riders' lives in the Speedway Star? Curiosity is fine as I said. Why dress it up as some moral obligation then? Hints of jiggery pockery, the fans have a right to know, etc. Just say you're nosey. Edited February 2, 2014 by george.m
manchesterpaul
Well probably at least a million (net) per year to cover operating losses of the BEL tracks, but probably 1.5-2 million per year if you wanted to invest in the grassroots. Would be more than the previous deal. Thanks (i'll just check my pockets for small change to see if i can help out!) The Pedaler
So if Speedway Star can't be compared to Pravda, maybe it should be compared to "The Watchtower"? Another publication that's oblivious to the truth and current affairs in it's zeal to spout out the "Good Word" to appease the higher power? Anyway, who needs Speedway Star when the Bournemouth Echo is leading the way with decent speedway journalism? - http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/10981713.Speedway__BSPA__have_to_take_responsibility__over_Havelock_says_vice_chairman/?ref=twtrec

Humphrey Appleby
Just say you're nosey. Well maybe, but are fans not interested to know where around 3 million quid a year from the GPs is going?

PHILIPRISING
Well maybe, but are fans not interested to know where around 3 million quid a year from the GPs is going? HOW did you arrive at that figure? And, who in your opinion, is the recipient of the three million quid? So if Speedway Star can't be compared to Pravda, maybe it should be compared to "The Watchtower"? And are you seriously suggesting that Speedway Star appeases to a higher power?
Vince
Well maybe, but are fans not interested to know where around 3 million quid a year from the GPs is going? The problem is that even if the Star gave a complete breakdown of income and expenditure people would argue about every detail and say they only printed what they were told! I honestly don't believe that BRITISH Speedway benefits in any way from the GP Series. BSI however............................................... If they didn't make anything out of it - they wouldn't run it.
phillipsr
Same as british speedway owners then. They may publish accounts that say they lose money but only an idiot thinks there not taking out the till beforehand.
Cockney Rebel
'Highway Patrol' - it doesn't get better. Blimey! That takes me back a bit. When I was about 8 years old I had a Highway Patrol outfit as a Xmas present, thought I was a real cool dude. Shame it doesn't fit me anymore. DO you honestly think that the British GP at Cardiff is not good for speedway here ... even if BSI make a profit out of it, which given the amount their invest in and indeed risk the event is surely their right. Possibly I cannot answer for fans. Perhaps it's you that's interested and that's your prerogative. If it is why not just say? I am getting the impression you suspect something, if so why not just say?

SteveLyric2
I wonder if BSI would/could ever publish a breakdown of UK vs foreign attendees at the Cardiff GP, together with a truthful paid attendance?! PERHAPS they would have fallen even more but for the Cardiff meeting each year? I'm sure Bob Dugard would argue the point PR!!

I re-iterate - I can see absolutely NO benefit for British Speedway at all from the GP Series. BSI put VERY LITTLE, if anything in to our Sport - but I bet they get a decent return from the GP Series. As I said - they are a Business, not a Sport - they would NOT run it if there was not a decent Profit in it for them.

I'm sure Bob Dugard would argue the point PR!! THE paid attendance figures published from Cardiff are supplied by the stadium... not sure that BSI would have an accurate breakdown of UK v foreign attendees. Would doubtless know how many pre-season went overseas but probably not those who pay on the day. My own experience with Bob is that he would argue most points!
