Speedway Champions League ?

Recommended Posts

  • 3 weeks later...

So Matt Ford / Poole Pirates were given €20,000.00 for taking part in last years' event at Zielona Gora. Wowzer. That's a decent slice of bread, I'd say!

Not quite on par with the 15 million for winning the UEFA Champions' League, or even the 200K for going out in the 1st Preliminary Round...

Well that probably paid for 2 or 3 of the riders - all of whom were expecting the same rates they get in Poland!!

If it develops into a proper competition in the future then great, I will be interested but its just not for me at present. Fair play to those going to watch it this year though and I hope they enjoy it. At least Pepe rode for us once upon a time, albeit 17 years ago

According to sportowefakty.pl, Roman Karkosik, the former owner of the Torun club considers investing money in World Speedway League.

- A few days ago Polish speedway EkstraLiga of which I was a part for the last eight years has opened its new season. Backing up speedway I wanted to create something unique and forward-looking. A strong club in Toruń and Extraliga as a whole., whose board acts in the interest of clubs as a co-owners of the organization. I have found that this was impossible. Certainly not in the personal and proprietary system as it is. The dominant position of the PZM in the Extraliga and its current chairman do not create for this discipline any positive outlook. Messing up with the rule book and the acting style of the EkstraLiga authorities were direct reasons for my decision to split from speedway

- said in an interview with SportoweFakty.pl Roman Karkosik.

The influential businessman was disgusted by the rules that prevailed in the Polish speedway sport and sold the club. Karkosik however has not forgotten about speedway. - I hope that Tomasz Gollob will present himself like a champion at the National Stadium during the Grand Prix and Emil Sayfutdinov quickly returns to health and twill take part in World Speedway League. I'll be watching closely this competition and I believe that with the support of the international federation it will become the real Champions League, which will be looked at by the whole speedway world - adds at the end Karkosik.
