New Science
Quite correct. Also, When Poole were considering hosting it, the date was Friday 24th April. Once FIM insisted it being on Saturday 25th, it ruled out Poole due to no track availability. You must be gutted !

uk_martin
And as for "Mickey Mouse" comprtitions.- have you see the trophy that the FIM have produced for the winners of the World Speedway League meeting? Â Oh well, never mind eh? Back to serious British stuff, like the Travel Plus Tours Challenge Trophy, tomorrow, which this year the Birmingham Brummies and Cradley Heathens will fight it out for...despite the fact that in the three years that it's been fought for, no-one has seen what this trophy looks like yet, or even if it actually exits. Yep, we British can be experts at berating what the Poles do when we're so good at running these top tournaments at home can't we?
SteveLyric2
Â Perhaps it could have been the other way? Date was changed to 25th when Poole no longer was interested? Nice try but 25th was on the FIM calendar early days.

lynnboy
Well I'm all booked up and can't wait to see my lynnstars racing in gorzow even if we do finish last. I may never see my team ever race in a stadium like that again. and then to top it off Falubaz Zielona Gora on the Sunday what a weekend 😀😀 Edited March 17, 2015 by lynnboy

bigcatdiary
Pepe guests for Kings Lynn. Because the stars no 1 is riding for Gorzow  Just a glorified challenge, what a complete waste of time and money.

SCB
Pepe guests for Kings Lynn. So we have GBs 3rd best team riding in the Champions League with a random guest who doesn't even ride in Britains in place of their usual number 1 who is riding for the opposition. I will admit they do have a nice trophy but still......
Mike.Butler
if t gives even a couple of young british riders the opportunity to ride in Poland that's a positive.. however, it's a 4TT challenge by invite and has nil credibility as anything else
f-s-p
So I dug up some info on this superleague crap. Â Prize money is around 24k in euros and the travelling teams have to be paid 10k each travel money. So thats 54k out of the organizers pocket. On top of that, theres the sanctioning fee for the fim. Every meeting has one. Over here you can have a national level individual for I think 150. The fee for this one I think is somewhere between LT WC-final and a SGP, moneywise 3-25k in euros. So in reality it IS quite an expensive day out, especially for the organiser. Â Lets say you win it, you have something like 20k to spread for four riders, TOP riders. They would be happy. Then there are 12 riders left... Â Anyone can check the prize money from the rulebook, the sanctioning fee is a mystery, so far...

No,no,no.......this is the business,as the dear departed Steve Shovlar said a few years ago......."let Poole host a meeting and the stadium will be packed" Trouble is no-one really wants the meeting.Which shows how mickey mouse the thing is.Terrible idea for speedway, although works well in other sports.Trouble is speedway doesn't work like other sports and now the FIM might try to change rules to make it work.....like trying to fit a size 12 foot into a size 9 shoe
customhouseregular
A great idea in principle Iris but falls apart in the execution. Â A proper league with the Champions from every country with a league, no matter how small would work, provided riders only rode for one team. As they don't (My son could not get his head around this) it would work if a multi-teamed rider rode for the team located in his home country...( a Brit riding for a British team and a Polish team has to ride for his British team in the Champions League). Â By my reckoning (correct me Iris if I am wrong) the league would have the champions from; Â UK Poland Denmark Sweden Finland Czech Republic Russia ? Â This should be run on a league basis, not a one-off meeting. Â As you rightly say...Mickey Mouse. Â Iris...am I being fanciful and on the wrong thread? It is the section for ideas and fantasies(at least about speedway) and of course it is best to put things in the right place so that people who want to contribute know where to find them. Hope you haven't taken it to heart

f-s-p
Basically what the whole thing (wsl) is, is a follow up to an idea by some FIM bigwig 25 years ago (he has a name, cant remember now). It could have been a great idea then, not now. Like iris123,0 I personally am on the no-go wagon. Â The money and support is not there. At the moment. We'll be with the Stal Gorzow fans in Grudziadz on the Sunday, for the Grudziadz v Stal Gorzow meeting and possibly to see the great Tomasz Gollob for the last time...who knows?
