Haza
Last Wednesday at Kings Lynn- team player management promoted Kings Lynn v Zielona Gora nothing to do with kings Lynn speedway team player management took all the risks on this meeting not the Chapmans but the one man that did the most laps Wednesday night was Buster Chapman he didn't just leave it to whoever . Coventry_Bee
So when did the BSPA realise that the track was in big trouble?? It's a showcase event so I would imagine that they would have been there yesterday and today to ensure after the Swindon nightmare that this went ahead with no drama? Â Coventry stadium are at fault also, they made an attempt to fix the track Friday by chucking loads of saw dust down?? Did this go towards the damage to the track? Crump99
Presumably he will be announcing his resignation.. Â No, it'll be that track curators can curate where they like and it was totally out out of their hands. Â "We regret very much what happened but on Saturday morning I had assurances that everything would be fine with the track." - welcome to supporters' world Harkess. That's the standard reply, irrespective of facts, when you phone the track! Edited March 23, 2014 by Crump99

george.m
I would have thought as this meeting was on SKY, and a showpiece event, the BSPA would have had someone in authority present to oversee the preparation and running of this event. Â If not, they need to re-think for future events. Â SKY might force their hand on this anyway.
Deano
So what you're saying is the promotion didn't sort the track out but the stadium management. Like tonight at the ERC? Â Sounds like it, but, a credible track man at that. I'll hazard a guess the promoter was there watching too, crossing T's and dotting i's etc. Edited March 23, 2014 by Deano
Jacques
As the Promoter of speedway at the Stadium he has a duty to ensure that the Track prep is suitable to run Speedway racing on it . He is paying rent for the facilities it is his problem if they are not in good order. After Fridays fiasco you would think he would make sure things were in order for tonight.Exuses from Horton are not plausible IMO Â Thanks for the explanation...You are? bigcatdiary
Drum roll.... Â http://www.speedwaygb.co/news.php?extend.24111 Â BRITISH Speedway Chairman Alex Harkess has confirmed the BSPA (British Speedway Promoters' Association) are to launch a full investigation into events surrounding the cancellation of the Elite Riders' Championship at Coventry. The meeting was cancelled due to an unfit track - something which Harkess admits was "totally unacceptable".He said: "The first thing to say is to apologise to the many supporters who paid good money to see the event which had a superb line-up."It is also not the start anyone wanted for the start of our new TV deal with Sky Sports."We regret very much what happened but on Saturday morning I had assurances that everything would be fine with the track."I can understand totally the anger of supporters and, of course, we offer our sincere apologies to everyone who was inconvenienced."We will now carry out a full investigation to establish why this totally unacceptable situation was allowed to develop and will comment further when this investigation has been concluded." flagrag
As I posted earlier a number of people who do know what they are on about when it comes to both track and bike preparation tried to advise the staff employed by the stadium but were told to go away. Â I am no expert of track preparation but to me the surface looked like it had too much clay in it and earlier in the afternoon when they did try to do something it just created ploughed field furrows and seemed very much like plasticine. Â Although everybody at Sky sports was very disappointed like the fans that this meeting turned into such a non event as far as I am aware the conspiracy theorists can stop now as A apology was given and agreement made about costs. Great news ! Pray let the fans know what pence per mile they can claim back in their quest to be rightfully entertained. Also, what compensation for their wasted time and effort.  Would expect real fans not to want to make a profit - but at least hope were part of the "agreement made about costs" which you refer to.  Come on be real !!!! Wolfsbane
Apparently the Polish bloke ticked all the boxes - he only wanted £2 an hour. They needed a Polish plumber at the Belle Vue swimming complex last season.

So let's say, a fictional company contracted by Sky to set the filming equipment up, have let loose a new guy, who is obviously making a hash of it and in response to offer help he tells the sky guys to "go away". I guess Sky will just roll over and let him carry on, knowing nothing will work. Edited March 23, 2014 by Deano
sandwichspeedwayfan
If everybody knew there was a major problem with the Coventry track on Friday night/Saturday morning, could they (the BSPA) not have moved a late switch to another track in the Midlands area (Birmingham, Leicester or Wolves)? Â Advised fans through all our social media channels, there website etc. and asking us the fans who maybe aren't travelling or even if they were to tell people and post it on our pages and in return the BSPA lowers admission prices for the meeting. And for those fans who had then paid to stay in Coventry they then asked them to send the invoice to them and they reimbursed a percentage of the fee for the trouble caused or had to cancel the trip cos they were using public transport to Coventry and then couldn't make a connection as I realise changing accommodation would be a hassle at last minute. Â This would IMO create a better image of the BSPA respecting Fans and sympathising with us, and be less of a farce.
Robbobee
So we turn up at Coventry Stadium to watch one of the most prestigious speedway events this country offers and we get ... Â a) a clearly unraceable track with most of the riders conducting a track walk shaking their heads in a negative manner! ' SKY TV already to go in their first meet of a new tv deal for the next 5 years only to witness 'zilch' Â c) disappointly aura of a 'run down' stadium - no extra food stands to the normal, still dirty air fence looking totally unprofessional. Â Messrs Horton and Co at Coventry Bees may not be to blame for the above problems but for once I agree with Shovvie - if it were my business, I'd sure as hell take more of an earlier interest in the matter to ensure the paying public / sponsors etc were not embarrassed as they have been today! Â Sad day for Speedway in general and Coventry speedway in particular.
