mikebv
Because the BSPA were in charge of the event, that's why. It appears they've given Sandhu a free reign to screw up their business plan for this year. what??? they have a business plan??? who knew..... SCB
Another nail in the coffin of British speedway. I bet sky are well pleased with that fiasco. After the part they played in last season fiasco, they have no right to feel anything about this one!

I just can't be bothered anymore.
Deano
No because Sandhu brought in a complete idiot of a track curator and Horton allowed that to happen ! And Horton is a member of what may I ask? The BSPA perhaps....
Starman2006
Because you were not there. So they had to pick a guy off the street. Sounds about right for Coventry to me. as I said, I can't be assed anymore. I forgot it was even being held at Coventry, that's how much interest I had in it... Jacques
Drum roll.... http://www.speedwaygb.co/news.php?extend.24111 BRITISH Speedway Chairman Alex Harkess has confirmed the BSPA (British Speedway Promoters' Association) are to launch a full investigation into events surrounding the cancellation of the Elite Riders' Championship at Coventry. The meeting was cancelled due to an unfit track - something which Harkess admits was "totally unacceptable". He said: "The first thing to say is to apologise to the many supporters who paid good money to see the event which had a superb line-up. "It is also not the start anyone wanted for the start of our new TV deal with Sky Sports. "We regret very much what happened but on Saturday morning I had assurances that everything would be fine with the track. "I can understand totally the anger of supporters and, of course, we offer our sincere apologies to everyone who was inconvenienced. "We will now carry out a full investigation to establish why this totally unacceptable situation was allowed to develop and will comment further when this investigation has been concluded." Who gave these assurances, it wouldn't have been Mick Horton, as so many want to suggest. The responsibility of the track prep is nothing to do with him! When will some of you get that it to your heads FFS. He IS not responsible for the stadium, that is down to the landlord ( whoever it is now) it was Sandhu. Has the sale gone through? Last year we had Colin Pratt in charge of the track prep..Where did he go?
Crazy robin
What a shambles the sport has once again looked tonight. There will be investigations that the results will never get made public & yet again fans will be left out of pocket with travel expenses etc. Only in speedway could this keep happening. Another sad day.

mikebv
I thought someone (ronnie russell?) had the accountability for all live tv meeting track preparations to ensure 'all is well'?? Wasnt this brought in after another fiasco a good while back?? Also didnt the bspa appoint someone to oversee every detail of the live meeting to ensure what happened tonight couldnt...! The Pedaler
Apparently the Polish bloke ticked all the boxes - he only wanted £2 an hour. Was it the Polish bloke who (to a load of Rye House self-congratulation) went to Len Silver for advice on track preparation? http://ryehouserockets.co/news.php?extend.727.

Well...he was certainly ensuring that all was well at the Belle Vue v Poole meeting last year.
Deano
And Deano, Horton is part of BSPA but that don't mean BSPA are at fault for him failing to deliver a promise to stage a meeting. I agree, it appears to be Horton's cock up in the first instance. But if the BSPA are promoting the event, imo and purely my opinion as I handed my money over to the BSPA, they are responsible for what happened or what didn't happen today. Of course he sold it, he believed and quite rightly, with the facilities on offer, they could stage the event. Yet again, I need to try and explain to you, Horton has NO jurisdiction over what happens at the stadium. That bit is/ was down to Sandhu. Sandhu is/was he landlord.....The bulbs, the paint, the PA, track prep is/was down to him........ Edited March 23, 2014 by Jacques
yellowandblack
It's a shame we keep referring to the guy as 'Polish' track bloke. I am not sure why his nationality is unimportant, in fact I actually think 'Polish' + 'Speedway ' = quality product' 'Not very good' or 'inexperienced' is more appropriate in this case
sandwichspeedwayfan
on a light hearted note to tonights events - in the interview with Darcy Ward - did he seem less squeaky than normal?!!

As the Promoter of speedway at the Stadium he has a duty to ensure that the Track prep is suitable to run Speedway racing on it . He is paying rent for the facilities it is his problem if they are not in good order. After Fridays fiasco you would think he would make sure things were in order for tonight.Exuses from Horton are not plausible IMO
