screm
Aw, was so looking forward to watching this on TV tonight :-( So no more big meetings at Coventry then! Take it to Peterborough or Lynn ✴ .... or Berwick.
goldeneagle
Doesn't surprise me speedway is a poorly managed sport, is in severe decline and episodes like this only hasten its end. Once again the fans are shafted and sky must be totally impressed. To say its not the BSPA's fault is wrong in my opinion surely someone from that bunch should have been monitoring the situation regarding the track.
kingbee
Why couldn't they grade it of today and put a new layer of shale down don't know if this was possable ?
Stephen7
I have always been very reluctant to be to critical of Speedway as there are far to many on here ready to do so, but I have to say that while we are used to matches being called off due to weather, I really do think that for the first curtain raiser of the season, why they did not use a venue with track covers to help ensure a successful start to the season. I say this presuming Coventry do not have them!
moxey63
As sure as night follows day, speedway will look a complete fool. Some of the idiots running the sport wouldn't be allowed by their wives to run the washing through the machine cycle.
Wolfsbane
Paul Burbidge @Paul_Burbidge 5m I hasten to add Coventry #Speedway didn't employ the track curator. The stadium did. They've just shafted the Bees. Pray tell what is remotely funny about it?
nw42
that first bend looks shocking! And whats up with Ward's voice? I think it's broken over the winter. He maybe a great rider but does Woffenden really think that he looks ANYTHING other than a complete tool?!!!..... Like he's bothered what you think. His body, his life... Speedy swindon pete
Absolute frigging shambles. Spent the whole day in the garage today, knowing there was the odd shower about but assuming there'd be little to worry about. Was looking forward to sitting down on the sofa and seeing some action again, only to find smashey and nicey stood in front of an empty stadium and that warm fuzzy feeling of disappointment that's become synonymous with British Speedway, returning once again.

Blazeaway
But it's not just about the stadium shafting Coventry Speedway. The whole of the sport will suffer for this. Surely the Coventry promotion should have a slightly better idea of what's happening with their own track?! Speedway is becoming a joke Becoming?

Tigerite
This is an absolute embarrassment ! Think Sky should be looking for another meeting on 14th April !!
WestGorton1884
Speedway is a joke ! , how do they expect to attract new fans via Sky , when they tune in to find the season opener abandoned because of a dangerous track ? never mind the thousands that paid good money travelling to Brandon , and also equally as shocking ... Tai Woofinden's ears !!! , what does he think he looks like . and to think we used to give Penhall & his fellow yanks abuse for being too flash !! times have certainly changed
moxey63
Most on here would have waited five and half months for today. Will you ever learn... life isn't worth wishing away.
John Leslie
What an utter shambles. Disgraceful from Coventry that they can't prepare a track for a showpiece event on a dry day. And now everyone blaming someone else. Disgraceful from the BSPA. Why wasn't someone sent for the weekend to oversee preparations ? Why allocate a showpiece event to a mickey mouse club who don't even know which of them is responsible for hiring a track curator? (and allegedly a track curator who doesn't speak English) And what has happened to the BSPA twitter operator who, this morning, could retweet everything that mentioned ERC, and even went on to tell us the exciting article that would be in the meeting programme...but can't be bothered to tweet the important information that the meeting is off (too embarrassed)?

Just got back from Cov, fortunately I live only 25 miles away from the stadium. Feel really sorry for those who have travelled long distances only to be turned away. The last sentence above from goldeneagle Is what we have been discussing since we left the stadium. Work should have been ongoing since yesterday morning and someone with the power to make these decisions should have been monitoring the efforts being made to improve things. Why is it that it was only deemed to be unraceable half an hour before the start?
AndyK86
They could have easily sorted that first bend out in 48 hours if weather has been as good as people say it has. Absolute joke Coventry Speedway and how ironic that first televised EL meeting is Cov v Poole, change it now !
