Elite Riders Championship - 25/09/2014

I'm sorry although I'm not new to speedway by any means I haven't got the hang of this forum etiquette yet (only 7 posts but years of reading)

 

So I need to

 

(a) Criticize the line up for being second rate ....err...let me read that again

 

Danny King Peter Karlsson Craig Cook Niels Kristian Iversen Hans Andersen Tai Woffinden Rory Schlein Troy Batchelor Matej Zagar Freddie Lindgren Peter Kildemand Darcy Ward Bjarne Pedersen Chris Harris Kenneth Bjerre Jason Doyle

 

Only 8 current GP riders, 3 ex GP riders, the elite league title holder, this year's British champion (Cookie) etc etc yes it could be better I suppose (?)

 

(B)Moan about paying £25 to watch the best sport in the world - (Twenty five quids I have spent recently - beers and curry the other night, a proportion of a ticket for a dull premier league football match last weekend, about 120 miles in my car to go to work, kid's phone bills..etc etc need I go on),

Sorry I am not quite there yet. Maybe when I get a few more posts under my over-optimistic naive belt. I love speedway, I love going to meetings, I'd prefer if it were £10 or even free...but it doesn't really work that way. No sign of speedway death just yet at Leicester last week. We have a media-friendly world Champion and yes, admit it a potentially world cup winning team (on a good day), a new Sky contract...things are looking ok

 

To be honest I am a grumpy old disillusioned overweight grey-haired middle-aged git myself (just listen to me grumble about my workplace) but I'm really looking forward to next Sunday :D and the 2014 season. :D

Absolutely right. People are jumping up & down screaming BSPA cockup yet they may well have shifted 3000 tickets. Wouldn't have taken long once the 1000's got wind of it via Twiiter.

 

Whether they advertise it as a 24hr promo or not is irrelevant. They've shifted their target amount to make sure it looks good for TV. Well done Sky & the BSPA. Excellent marketing. Maybe those that missed out will be a bit sharper next time :lol:

Was lots of posts about it on twitter and Facebook as well as talk about it on this site and sky.

 

As I said, they didn't promote it IN THE SLIGHTEST.

 

Show me the link to them publicising it.

 

They got lucky (or unlucky more likely the way they see things) that others did the publicising for them.

What is it exactly you're so upset about? Let's get to the point here. Is it they didn't advertise or the fact you didn't get to buy one and you're getting a sulk on?

 

Sky priced the tickets £12.50 on their website. How long that price is reduced for doesn't need to be advertised. Sky didn't need to spend money on advertising as Twitter, Facebook, Speedway Forum, texts & phone calls between friends & family sorted that.

 

Sky, BSPA, SCB, ACU, FIM, GoSpeed or my wife has nothing to answer

Sky priced the tickets £12.50 on their website. How long that price is reduced for doesn't need to be advertised. Sky didn't need to spend money on advertising as Twitter, Facebook, Speedway Forum, texts & phone calls between friends & family sorted that.

I'd suggest you don't take up a career in marketing, you will not be very successful.

 

It is clear to anyone with half a brain cell that if you are going to run a promotion the most important thing is that you ADVERTISE it.

 

Secondly, if the promotion is only going to be on offer for 24 hours it would be very important to STATE THAT.

 

That's the idea of short promotions, to encourage people to purchase there and then. There will be many who didn't purchase there and then as they had no idea the offer was only on offer for 24 hours.

 

It makes no difference to me as I live in another country, however it will make a difference to the sport.

 

If Brandon stadium is not heaving close to capacity for this meeting, you can say they've failed.

The fact they have sold so many means word of mouth works.

Funny thing is, I am in marketing and we have cut back on advertising expense. The whole reason I suggested what Sky may have done is because it's what we do. Our company has almost hit half year target simply by planting seeds. We've put promos on our website unadvertised and just let it run by word of mouth and it's far more active. We've found If we advertise a promo more than half who returned our current customer surveys said there must be a catch & don't follow it up. Flyers, mail merge letters just end in the bin not even read & cold calls, the person you need to speak to is never available or they hang up (as I do at home).

 

Word of mouth is the most powerful tool in modern business marketing especially with, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc. The added expense isn't required.

Whats happening on Friday?? What's Havvy's Farewell got to do with this debate?? The only speedway place that'll be packed out on Friday is Poole Stadium!!! :t::wink:

That is precisely the point, how big would it have been if the offer had either:-

 

a: Been promoted

b: Been available for a longer period of time.

 

There is nothing yet to suggest this was even a genuine idea by the BSPA and not a cock-up.

 

 

It's been suggested for tv meetings for a long time.

But it might work at all types of meetings as well but they won't try it and see.

When it is justified then criticism can be given, however you find ways to criticise on every single thread. We are in agreement in that overall the BSPA do a woefully poor job (or have done) in promoting the sport and before you came along I was viewed as perhaps one of the most critical posters on this forum... however it must seem I'm supportive of the BSPA in comparison to yourself!

£25 or £12.50 even if they was letting fans in free id not go to this meeting 6pm on a Sunday night when iit's live on Sky Sports and this meeting is little more than a glorified practice session it's a warm up ahead of the first GP little more than that . .

I didn't realise they were all in the GP.

 

I assume you believe that a GP rider won't be winning then as they're just having a practice?
